Why is 'Ribs' recharting? TikTok presumably?

It has always been one of her most streamed overall charts and beloved deep cuts - kinda like the way ‘Lovely’ is just always charting for Billie Eilish.

The 1-2 punch of girl so confusing and the new album cycle launching is just pushing it up even further.

Sombr is doing incredible, @2 and 5 Cannot recall anyone starting their career like this with 2 simultaneous huge hits

Jessie J and Jess Glynne maybe? They each had their first 2 huge hits within a few weeks of each other

Grace and Someone You Loved were both big for Lewis Capaldi at the same time, though possibly a case of the latter fuelling the former (a bit like the impact Good Luck, Babe! had on Chappell's album).

According to Spotify their users keep growing so not sure why streams are down

Fewer big hits capturing the zeitgeist. Streams aren't down at the bottom end, it's just more spread out

They’re down at the bottom end too.

This time last year #1 was 950k now 550k

#50 was 170k now 130k

#200 was 95k now 77k

The equivalent Monday saw 80k for #200 and 142k for #50 so not quite so drastic.

Would also argue that in the greater scheme of things, #200 is still at the top, rather than the bottom.

(and a year ago there were like 20 Taylor Swift songs in there, things like that do inflate the thresholds)

Regarding simultaneous hits: back in the day The Beatles had the whole top 5 on Hot 100, and that was before the album bomb era (all separate single releases).

They were also the first to knock themselves out from #1 in the UK (1963).

Madonna had also some when she started and no easy feat cos it was based on physicals

just like Jessie J, Adele's Rolling in the Deep-Someone like you, it was not simultaneous but SLY came just weeks after RITD

and were both in the top 10 for a while

of course there's also Ed during he Divide era...

but I cannot really recall a case like Sombr, 2 songs simultaneously climbing slowly slowly and now both are top 5 on Spotify

Måneskin's case was interesting, where they won Eurovision with 'ZITTI E BUONI', but then two unrelated songs 'I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE' and 'Beggin' blew up around the same time, thanks to TikTok having their pre-existing catalogue to mine after they were thrust into the spotlight. That came into my head first as I remember tracking their progress closely and both songs were definitely in the Spotify top 5 at the same time, albeit not climbing quite as slowly as Sombr.

I think it's actually quite common to have the first two big hits high on charts at the same time (like Teddy, Chappell and Sabrina just last year). Whether they are the first two chart entries altogether might be a different story.

Lady Gaga's first 3 hits Just Dance, Poker Face and Paparazzi debuted very close to each other (Jan 10, Jan 24, Jan 31).

Oh wow that’s huge for Calvin, it’s hard to say now as it may stabilize but if it can keep this sort of momentum and grow even more it could maybe challenge Alex for #1 in a week or 2? Can only hope 🤩

Are you sure about that? The first two seem correct but according to Polyhex 'Paparazzi' didn't debut until May? But in any case I never realised that 'Poker Face' made its chart debut only two weeks after 'Poker Face', I have no recollection of that 😮 why would they have been released that close to each other? Or was it that the album came out then?

Yes, it entered the top 100 in January already and went 99-95-out before returning 87-61.... It peaked in June.
