  • I remember on a cold winter evening, whilst on holiday at Center Parcs, teenage me and my friends went to the outdoor swimming pool, and there were water rapids, and we did a medley of the Bob The Bui

  • And there it is, straight in the bin for me!

  • Cool thread but yes I think I’m claiming it as one of ours haha. Please could a pre 2000 mod move it?

Only 20 songs got my 10/10.

From 2000 year it was Britney Spears - Lucky.

In a good year, I will usually have about six or seven songs that I score 10/10. 2000 I had about that number, but for comparison in 2016 (my least favourite year) I had two.

“Pure Shores” will forever be my #1 but “Groovejet” and “Toca’s Miracle” are both wonderful examples 2 worlds colliding and produce something rare and magical.

Thanks Rich!

I'll take top 3 for 'Pure Shores' in a strong electronic field although it's my favourite of the year heart William Orbit's production and All Saints' dreamy vocals are a match made in heaven once again. 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)' is also my runner-up so snap there at least *.* love the house grooves, strings, percussion and of course Sophie's distinctive vocal delivering the romantic lyrics. I'm so pleased that they clinched the U.K. #1 spot in the end.

Fragma is still a great winner and would be within my top 10 of the whole year too <3 'Toca's Miracle' is the first song I can actually remember from the time. It's scary how well both 'Toca Me' and 'I Need A Miracle' fit together... a perfect mash-up!

Aw at Madison Avenue not getting much love in the thread aside from yourself, I think it's great too. A really stacked top 5.

To pivot away from dance music... 'Stan' is Eminem's best song for me. The storytelling is so vivid and hard-hitting. Love the intense beat and sample choice too.

Thank you for putting this together, Rich! I enjoyed the swift pace, your commentaries and reading the responses from others.

good rundown down the lower end - I'd drop the Billie and Westlife's down a bit, and bump Madonna and Geri a bit higher, but more or less it's quite similar to my list of chart-toppers.

Higher up the list we divert a bit, with A1 and Manics a bit flattered, and Rock Dj/Beautiful Day a bit low. I'd bung them in the top 20 in favour of S Club, Leanne dropping out. So how does the top 20 go up next......

Rise would be top 10 easily for me, but Craig and Mdonna are fine down t'lower end. Ronan ditto is easily top 10 for me, prob top 5, but Modjo and Craig 2 are decent enough, but they'd be down the lower end of the 20. Eminem fine where it is, Sonique top 5 for me.

Oops is about right I think, Mel C I'd drop out the 10, (I Turn To You) and swap with britney (Lisa Lopes). Black Coffee is another nice one that I rate 10 places lower maybe, while Breathless would be way lower. Stan needs to be top 10, it'd prob fall short of my top 5 though.

Madison Avenue is fun, but overplay annoyed me a bit at the time and wouldnt be top 20. Pure Shores, yes def top 5 and 3 sounds about right actually, behind Sonique and Groovejet. Toca's Miracle def top 10 for me but not top 5.

So all in all lots of agreement, great list! I tend to like Rockpop a bit more and singalongpop a bit less, and that's about it 👍

Gosh you commit when you do a countdown don't you? I hadn't even noticed it had begun and you're finished 😆

Broadly speaking I would be on a similar line to you, although there's a few you rank much higher than I do. If I was doing this I'd probably go for this as my top 10:

01 All Saints - Black Coffee

02 All Saints - Pure Shores

03 Eminem - Stan

04 Spiller - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)

05 Sonique - It Feels So Good

06 Destiny's Child - Independent Women Part I

07 Madonna - Music

08 Gabrielle - Rise

09 Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby

10 Fragma - Toca's Miracle

Particularly please you also really like Don't Call Me Baby as I think that's often overlooked - and far superior to the much better remembered Modjo track.

Great top 5 here, Stan is indeed a real watershed moment for songwriting and hip hop music, both All Saints number 1s with William Orbit were phenomenal, and the other three are great dance number 1s - there was so much great dance around at the turn of the century and I loved that they could sometimes get turns at the top, just wish there was room for the likes of Darude, Artful Dodger and Zombie Nation amongst others x

And yeah, I'll also do my own (rough) top 10 because why not x

  1. U2 - Beautiful Day

  2. All Saints - Pure Shores

  3. Eminem - Stan

  4. Spiller - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)

  5. Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight)

  6. All Saints - Black Coffee

  7. LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight the Moonlight

  8. Destinys Child - Independent Woman Part I

  9. Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby

  10. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
