"Something Good Can Work" was the debut single for the Northern Irish indie group. Originally released in 2009, it would be included on their 2010 debut album Tourist History and charted for the first time in 2011. The instrumental was briefly used in The Inbetweeners and a remix by The Twelves was used in the games SSX and Forza Horizon (the remix is my preferred version). It had the same number of voters as "Life Is A Highway" but received two 25 scores compared to one 25 score for the former song.

A shame to see Ben Howard going out. Keep Your Head Up is such an effortlessly joyful song, it was the first one of his I grew to love before then getting addicted to The Wolves and Old Pine... he's c

This is the greatest and best song in the world!

Good grief people. That's a big chunk of the best songs in this semi sent packing very early - Tribute, Time, Brazil, Kasabian. Disappointed in you all!

30. Rihanna- Kiss It Better (147 points)

UK chart peak: 46 (13 weeks in the top 100)

Released jointly with "Needed Me" as the second/third single from her latest album Anti, Rihanna's 80s-inspired rock ballad "Kiss It Better" couldn't quite make the UK top 40 unlike "Needed Me". The first verse would later be sampled on the chorus of Fat Joe's 2021 track "Sunshine" which peaked at number 53 in the UK but lasted in the top 100 one week longer than "Kiss It Better".

Released at the end of 2012, "Sweater Weather" first charted in the UK in March 2014. It has since become one of the most popular songs of the 2010s thanks to multiple TikTok revivals in the 2020s and the adoption of it as a "bisexual anthem". It's the 6th most streamed song of all time on worldwide Spotify, the biggest by any group and the biggest to miss the UK top 40 (UK top 2 in fact!), though it would've made the top 40 if it got a reset in 2022. It has appeared on the 2022 and 2023 year-end lists.

Another big loss for me, would’ve definitely expected this one to make it

Oh no, that’s 3 of my top 4 gone out now (4 out of the top 6 if you count Acquiesce from the original lists).

Fade Into You is really lovely American alt rock. Something Good Can Wait is excellent, loved it since the initial release and pleased it has become more popular over the years.

Written by Stevie Nicks when debating whether to go back to school or continue her music career with Lindsey Buckingham, "Landslide" is included on Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album, their first with Nicks and Buckingham. The only members featured on the song are Nicks on vocals and Buckingham on guitar.

27. Lord Huron- The Night We Met (159 points)

Writer: Ben Schneider

Producer: Ben Schneider

UK chart peak: 75 (23 weeks in the top 100)

First featured on Lord Huron's 2015 album Strange Trails, "The Night We Met" was pushed as a single in 2017 after it was featured in season 1 of 13 Reasons Why. A new version with Phoebe Bridgers was released for the show's second season in 2018, but the track truly took off in the 2020s thanks to its popularity on TikTok. It made the top 75 on ACR in 2023 and would've hit the top 40 with a reset in early 2024. It was the 60th biggest song of 2024 and will very likely be on 2025's year-end list.

Just missing out on the final is the only platinum non-top 40 for Ari and one of four for Mr. Tesfaye. When Max Martin first sent Abel the song, he felt it was "generic" so added "darker" elements to the track which were welcomed by Martin. It reached number 7 in the US and would later be included on the Weeknd's chart-conquering compilation The Highlights.

Not sure when the final will start yet but most likely on Monday- I'm waiting to see how "Champagne Supernova" will do after Oasis' final shows in Manchester so I can make a decision on what to do if it goes top 40... Thanks to everyone taking part so far!

No at Sweater Weather not going through. :(

Particularly happy for I Wanna Be Yours, Forever Young and Ocean Drive making it though.

Happier with the outcome of this semi as I only lost 6 songs from my votes, although the two biggest were towards the end - 'Sweater Weather' has become a modern classic, although it being the 6th most streamed on Spotify worldwide is insane o and I could have given 'The Night We Met' more than 11 points on another day, though maybe still not enough to progress.

Glad to see some definite Oasis representation in the final, although neither of those songs are a patch on 'Champagne Supernova' (or indeed 'Acquiesce') which I'm now in two minds whether I want to see get its chart moment, so that it can do well in this rate instead!

Sorry again for not voting (I was going to do so on the final day then realised it wasn't a midnight vote deadline and I didn't have time to), I 100% promise I will vote in the final!

So many excellent songs going out at this stage though while Imagine Dragons' 'Believer' gets through? Excuse me? x
