The first track I heard by Kendrick, excellent song and a sign of great things to come.

“Lost” is beautiful: it would definitely have gone Top 40 but for them clinging to the no resets for a track more than 3 years old rule.

Thanks Cian- just letting you know your vote won't count if "Champagne Supernova"/"The Chain" enter the top 40 as you haven't inserted the substitutes in your vote. I'll send a reminder for you to ins

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

Though I will still be accepting late votes- got a lot on this week so not sure when I will be able to tally them up. Keep voting if you so wish, me posting number 50 in the results will count as the official closing.

@Cymro87 you still have time to edit "Heads Will Roll" into your votes. If you don't get round to it I'll sub it in for your lower vote for "In My Life"- sorry if that's not the score you would give but I feel that's fairer than excluding your vote from the rate.

Thanks everyone!

Starting to count up votes tonight, albeit very slowly- plan to start results tomorrow evening so if you still want to vote you have an extra day! (@Brer don't let me down 🤭)

Omg

Sorry I forgor again but lemme try and quickly do it tonight xx

Coming in dead last place is the doo-wop inspired final single from Rihanna's 2016 album Anti. Fred Ball and Joseph Angel did not intend to give the song to Rihanna but Ball's Roc Nation manager Jay Brown loved the song and suggested they gave it to her. It reached number 5 in the US but failed to chart in the UK.

The biggest song released in the 21st century to miss the top 40 is this track from the Dragons which has been used in many adverts. Love or hate the Dragons they clearly have their fans as this is the 11th biggest song on worldwide Spotify. It is their biggest UK seller and has spent more time in the top 100 than any other non-top 40 single.

Unironically bop

Can’t believe that Believer made the final - would’ve given it negative points if I could

Imagine Dragons had a few pretty good songs from their earlier albums so I'm not 100% on the hate train for them but 'Believer' is borderline unlistenable, had absolutely no business being in the final here so yay for the early exit. (and the bottom 2 being the same as my own bottom 2 albeit the other way around, 'Love On The Brain' is a snoozer for me)

Yep it has that marmite Benson Boone Beautiful Things style loud chorus!

Really looking forward to this countdown!

I have a feeling the scores could be quite close as it seems a lot of the votes were polarised one way then the other.

Just hoping some of my favourites make it into the top 10!

"Swimming Pools" is the first song from K-Dot to reach the UK top 100. Taken from his 2012 album Good Kid M.A.A.D. City, the track is credited with helping Kendrick break into the mainstream. The song details Kendrick's experiences with alcoholism and was a top 20 hit in the US.

47. John Denver- Take Me Home, Country Roads (630 points)

This country anthem was written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert while travelling in Maryland: Danoff chose to write about West Virginia after being inspired by his friend, actor Chris Sarandon, and members of a West Virginia commune. The two were going to give the track to Johnny Cash but John Denver stepped in last second and decided he had to have the song, helping to write the song's missing bridge. It became a number 2 hit in the US and one of the most beloved country songs ever, doing wonders for tourism in West Virginia. In the UK a version by Olivia Newton-John reached number 15 in 1972 and a cover by Hermes House Band reached number 7 in 2001. John's only top 40 hit was the number one "Annie's Song" but this track is now his biggest seller in the digital age.

A little bit surprised with John Denver going out this fast. It's one of my first English pop songs I heard of from my dad's CD collections.

Producers: Malay, Frank Ocean, Om'Mas Keith

Achieved platinum status on 25/03/2022, 2x platinum 02/02/2024

Taken from Frank's 2012 debut album Channel Orange, "Lost" is written from the perspective of a man using a woman as a drug mule. The track uses voice samples from the movie Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. "Lost" is Frank's highest-charting solo single and most successful single in terms of sales, peaking in 2022 after TikTok virality and making 2022's year-end list. It would've easily made the top 40 had it been reset, too bad the "Kate Bush effect" hadn't taken place 4 months sooner...

Edited by gasman449

I saw John Denver had low scores from a lot of voters so I'm not surprised he's out - the song's become one of my favourites after a few road trips over the years, though I'm not too familiar with his discography on the whole.
