Of the final two, I think one is the song I expected to win and the other is a complete curveball but a very welcome one. Great work guys.

  • Comfortably Numb should have done better than this. The guitar solo at the end of the song would be part of my top 3 all time guitar solos.

  • Why not slow down to say 2 per day for the final 10? Your pace of results has still been quite fast I’d say (brilliant job as always of course!) Oops at me being a low scorer for “Mardy Bum”: I love

Before getting into the top 2 and revealing the winner here's my thoughts on 5-3

One Way Or Another- I thank One Direction for introducing me to the concept of cover songs after a young me was mortified at what they had done to this classic! Not quite my favourite song by the band (that would be "Dreaming") but a very close second!

Ooh Dreaming has some of the best drumming in a pop song ever! RIP Clem Burke😢

Despite having 5 top 40 hits, "Heads Will Roll" is the biggest seller in the UK for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It features on their 2009 album It's Blitz. While the original version is very popular, the most popular version of the song is the dance remix by A-Trak. The song's music video was directed by Richard Ayoade.

The most streamed Beatles song on Spotify and their most successful song in the digital age, "Here Comes The Sun" from Abbey Road was never released as a single. It was written by George Harrison in Eric Clapton's house while he was avoiding a business meeting at Apple Corps. John Lennon does not contribute to the song. A cover by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel reached number 10 in 1976. The original charted at number 64 in 2010 when the band's catalogue was released on iTunes, peaking at 58 in 2012 after a cover by Gary Barlow was used in an M&S advert. It has been voted as BuzzJack's ultimate platinum non-top 40 single!

Ultimately my predicted winner won, but well deserved.

Have to say this rate has been really good fun start to finish, from listening to new stuff, the voting, the countdowns but especially the commentary, opinions and musical recommendations from you all, many thanks guys!

Most of all a massive thanks to gasman for all your hard work (and coping with the Oasis proverbial ‘spanner in the works’ midway through). I particularly enjoyed your fantastic personal commentaries on each individual song in the final. Bet you need a rest now, well deserved !😆

Oh wow I get the honour of poster whose +50 has won 😮 ❤️

For years I went back and forth between 'Here Comes the Sun' and 'Tomorrow Never Knows' being my favourite Beatles track, the former a soothing, optimistic comfort song and the latter a masterclass in experimentation, but over time I ended up settling on 'Here Comes the Sun'. This is quite a 'basic' pick on paper as their biggest song nowadays, especially when I'm familiar with the whole breadth of their catalogue, but what can I say - it hits a special spot.

I'm delighted that a George Harrison composition has become such a juggernaut when the plaudits have typically gone to Lennon/McCartney (also deserved). I did think it stood a good chance of winning but it's wonderful to see nevertheless.

'Heads Will Roll' is a very surprising runner-up though! Why not, also a great song.

Thanks gasman for all your hard work putting this together, brilliant effort clap

And that's the rate! Thanks so much to anyone who took part in any round or commented, this is the first event I've hosted on BuzzJack and it's been mostly enjoyable! Also special thanks to @Julian_ for some guidance and helping get this rate off the ground. As for the top 2 I'm very happy with the winner, "Here Comes The Sun" is a classic and one of the happiest songs I've ever heard, optimism in song form (even if I hate hot weather😁). Didn't think "Heads Will Roll" would make top 10 let alone top 2 so very pleasantly surprised with that outcome! Yeahs are very underrated. Well done on a really good top 50 everyone!

Would never have expected Heads Will Roll top 2!

Ah that’s very kind of you but I didn’t really do anything. Thanks very much for such a great effort hosting your first venture on here!

And lovely that “Here Comes The Sun” won this after missing out in the Beatles rate. The “Heads Will Roll” result came out of nowhere but is lovely to see. Great work all!

I was struggling to remember what the 2nd song was, I was sure it had already been given all the modern songs seemed to not do as well here, but that's a great surprise result. It's a fantastic song, I prefer it in A-Trak remix form but both are great,

The winner is slightly less unexpected but no qualms with it at all, it's a beautiful, simple song that connects with just about everyone. It's context of creation is lovely too as one of the songs that was more hopeful in the drama-filled Abbey Road recording sessions.

Below them, Champagane Supernova and The Sound of Silence were my favourite 2 left,. I would say the former is much less of a blatant rip-off of the Beatles than some of their songs, it works really work well as an homage to psychedelia, the mid-90s soundscape and the lyrics ('slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball') are as Oasis as you can get x Shame it hasn't yet managed to get top 40 on the back of the tour, but guess that works better for this rate kink and it need not be said at this rate, but Sound of Silence is one of the most profound and beautiful songs ever written, I do have a soft spot for the Disturbed cover as well x

I can't really fault any of that top 10 even though none were quite at the top of my votes, all very clear classics that have aged really well. Thank you for the excellent effort you put into hosting this, gasman, it's been great to follow.

Here Comes The Sun is a great winner, I gave it 44 points. Heads Will Roll was one of the songs I had to listen to as I didn't know it. I gave it 17 points which I see is just above one of the three lowest scores it received (15).

Thanks Gasman for all the hard work you put into running this poll.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs #2, wtf?! I think that was one of the few (or maybe only?) songs I hadn't heard before this rate. I'm not sure it has any business above many of the classics that have appeared below it, but I guess the people of Buzzjack have spoken!

Very worthy #1 though, if a little predictable. It's always been up there as one of my favourite Beatles songs.

Thanks for this rate @gasman449, I've really enjoyed following it D

"Acquiesce" scored 139 points before it became ineligible, safe to say it would've made the finals!

A worthy winner for sure. Surprised by #2 which is a great song but I feel benefits from being liked enough by most people to earn high average marks maybe? Even more surprised at the remix being more popular. Can honestly say I didn't know that existed and have never heard it before. (Gave it a quick listen and hated it so no loss there for me).

Most of the top half was all quality stuff I liked even if the order would be re-arranged somewhat. Would have commented more but had a very busy last week and weekend.

Great work on this rate. Really enjoyed it.
