Yesterday at 13:581 day What an amazing year Olivia Dean is having! Her new song has debuted at #8 on Spotify.
Yesterday at 14:051 day "No Broke Boys" is at #2, with over 400k streams for the first time! Edited yesterday at 14:051 day by DanielCarey
Yesterday at 14:311 day Is No Broke boys gonna be this year's GLB or APT just gets big at the wrong time
Yesterday at 14:381 day For APT it wasn't really the wrong time... Sailor Song and That's So True were #1 back then but not with huge sales (39k and 41k). APT just wasn't strong enough to beat those.
Yesterday at 14:591 day Aside from Olivia, only one other new entry today: Steve Lacy - Nice Shoes at #176
Yesterday at 15:391 day The new Ed song really doesn't sound like a 2025 hit at all, sounds plucked straight out of the early 10s and we're not at the nostalgia cycle for that era yet. Think it only made the top 40 at all because of Ed still having some lingering name power, I'd be surprised if it made much of a recovery in coming weeks. Obviously he can still get big hits (not at the level of his previous hits I know etc.) with the right songs (i.e. 'Azizam' and 'Sapphire') but this one isn't it.
Yesterday at 15:531 day Shocked about Olivia, since when she’s that big?So happy for her! Love every single song!
Yesterday at 16:141 day Olivia's star has been steadily rising all year (her last release 'Lady Lady' didn't make a huge impression but given it's been followed so soon I guess that was more of a promo single and they're pushing this one more). Her album could be pretty big at this rate.
Yesterday at 16:231 day Olivia's full Spotify impact today: 6. Nice To Each Other (+9) 8. Man I Need 23. Rein Me In (with Sam Fender) (+2) 59. Lady Lady 87. Dive (+33) 173. Ok Love You Bye

His popularity has dropped considerably with this album. Azizam missed the top 10, Sapphire 20, Old Phone 38 and this new one barely registered only 51. Zach Bryan seems to have taken his crown. People who were 20 and partying as students etc. at the time are still somewhat able to follow music and pop culture (it's been studied that there is a drastic change in the early 40s, people just stop caring) and young people actually have an idea of the artist / sound they already heard as a kid.I remember 80s nostalgia being a huge thing in late 90s - Modern Talking had a #1 album in my country in 1998! That's around 15 years. Edited 14 hours ago14 hr by Sour Candy
13 hours ago13 hr I think early 2010s nostalgia IS here - but in the form of the club banger era, some of the pop and dance doing well at the moment has production hallmarks of 2009-2012 - none moreso than Golden and I think we will see more like that coming through, ‘Pop’ is definitely poppier than it has been for several years currently.I keep seeing popular videos on TikTok talking about how good we had it when the likes of Flo Rida, LMFAO and Pitbull were No.1, which is funny to me as at the time I remember thinking how annoyingly samey everything was in the charts. But looking back I do see that those songs had charm, especially now that club culture has really started to die off in the last 10 years (it doesn’t seem as much a Gen Z thing as it was in the past and a lot of clubs are closing down), so maybe that era was like the last hurrah for a lot of people of spending time with friends in groups before smartphones/social media really properly dominated our lives, as well as all the political crap that happened in the later 2010s.I was clubbing a lot in 2011 as we had a club at the end of my road and I was in a house share, so those songs do bring back some nostalgia for me too, especially stuff like Rihanna’s Loud era (remember when everyone dyed their hair that shade of red!).All that being said, I’m not sure how nostalgic people are for the Olly Murs first album sound? And it seemed like a weird path for Ed to tread with this single - on first listen it sounded like a misfire to me. That kind of soulful and even ska influenced pop was tailing off even by then - it was huge in 2007/8-post Amy Winehouse with people from Plan B to Pixie Lott, and obviously Olly had some success with it but I’d argue he could have used any sound on his debut album and done well with it such was his profile then, I don’t think it was choosing that style that made him a star. His genuinely long lasting popular hits came later (especially the No.1 singles with Rizzle Kicks and Flo Rida), but I can’t remember the last time I heard Please Don’t Let Me Go, and Ed’s new one is a lot like Olly’s first era. If he wants to tap into the emerging nostalgia cycle of that era then sure - good idea, it’s coming and somebody will capitalise and do well with it - but get Pitbull on board and give us a nostalgic club banger, not this. 12 hours ago12 hr Also to add, I don't think it's a coincidence that several big female popstars have had their "back to form" eras with albums that were released around 15 years in their career. Madonna with Ray of Light (16 years), Taylor Swift with Midnights (16 years), Beyoncé with Lemonade (13 years, 18 if you count DC), now Gaga with Mayhem (16 years). It's just the perfect balance between nostalgia and relevance.
