September 23, 2025Sep 23 Great sales for Buckingham Nicks! Would be amazing if it could stay top 5 but top 10 is still great

It’s by far where she’s done the best on streaming this era, and a push for multiple physical variants is largely restricted to her US store.UK formats:US formats (many of them being signed):
September 23, 2025Sep 23 Cardi hasn't had a top ten UK hit since WAP and rap is very streaming heavy genre. Not really surprising - no streams, no chart position.
September 23, 2025Sep 23 I disagree I think it absolutely is surprising! The albums chart is easier than ever to chart highly on, Cardi being at #37 on the first update is shocking for an artist who in theory should have a bigger fanbase.

September 23, 2025Sep 23 Cardi's promo is very US centred and Jay's explanation of the formats only makes it clearer! I think she's actually done quite well to regain any hype at all considering, pre-court case, it felt like she'd missed the boat for this album to make any impact by at least a couple of years.I imagine it's riding mostly on streams so I'm hoping it can still make the top 40 by the end of the week, which isn't so bad given her last hit was 2 years ago, and that's not even on this album (the most recent top 40 hit on there is 2021's Up).
September 23, 2025Sep 23 The correlation between chart hits and album success is a mute point - week in week out we see artists go to #1 or Top 10 that haven’t had a hit in years/decades or at all in some cases.Even with the promo being US centric and not as many formats in the UK versus her home market I’m surprised she doesn’t have a big enough core fanbase that would be able to get her into the Top 20 mids.

I'm just not entirely surprised at low top 40 either at this stage. As for your first point, it very much depends on the genre. Indie artists have almost always performed better in the album chart than singles. Rappers tend to rely on streams, so won't really have the multibuying fanbase beyond a select few. Cardi largely being away from the popular music scene for a couple of years is surely having an effect as I think the hype had somewhat passed until the court case and her promotional efforts at the eleventh hour.
September 23, 2025Sep 23 I would agree but Nicki has hardly any hits on her last album pre release if any and that went Top 5! I'd say that's fairly comparableI am far from a barb btw haha
September 24, 2025Sep 24 I believe it's the case that Cardi B needed a few recent streaming hits in order to be able to create a bigger splash for her album in the UK. It's not a guarantee that "no hit singles = the album goes to #1 or Top 10 regardless". The majority of the artists who pull that off here, they're not Hip-Hop or R&B artists. They typically rely on streaming, and if that's lacking, well...I think midweek #37 indicates that Cardi hadn't established herself well enough to be able to afford the luxury of a 7 and a half year gap between debut and follow up, not outside of the US at least. I can imagine that her worldwide chart placements are going to be along the lines of how she's doing in the UK. By the way, Invasion of Privacy reached #59 in the physical album chart, so she's not previously proven herself to be a strong physical seller. As mentioned, her label hasn't played the formats game here to the extent that a lot of artists do these days, so that doesn't help matters.
September 24, 2025Sep 24 Wow, I’m hearing strong rumours of a new Robyn album due soon, would be her first in 8 years (since Honey)! Can’t wait.

September 24, 2025Sep 24 I'm going that Lewis Capaldi will still have the #1 in the latest update bearing in mind he's got the signed CDS arriving on the Thursday to rubber-stamp that #1 spot.
