It's a great song but what's so great about the video? It's literally just him sitting around in an empty pub and then singing the song with a backing band. Couldn't get much more of a nondescript video.

Thats very true and it changes what was really just a cheeky joke.

Interview on BBC Breakfast yesterday: Having had the album on all weekend, it's miles better than Marry Me for me. He's spoken about this as being the album he wanted to make after he came off The X

I know that, but I didn't realise he actually released stuff as a recording artist

"Run This Town" now in its second week on B-list at Radio 2. He also performs on the results show of Strictly next weekend.

Interesting interview! He's not the first to find success from X Factor to feel like people in the industry don't take him seriously. James Arthur and Little Mix said similar IIRC.

I think in all cases it has just encouraged them to work even harder, which is something. I'm sure there's people who didn't make it through TV that are viewed in less high regard.

@BooYouWhorelock do you wish to explain what's so funny?

He posted this voice note on his Instagram channel this morning. Either he's joking or this is real because several news sites are reporting about it. I'm heartbroken if it's true 😢

That would be surprising... and that's quite a flippant way of announcing it if he's being genuine. But what would he gain from joking about this if it's not true, other than annoying fans?

Joke it might have been, but that was in really poor taste. Not impressed by that at all.

He was clearly playing on the album title and hoping it would drum up some media interest... Which it did... I don't see the issue? And he seemed to quickly revert so that fans knew where he actually stood!

If he wanted to "hang up his mic", that's also his prerogative?

(very aware other people have different perspectives that I don't understand, everyone's entitled to feel how they feel, of course! But this is Olly who's always been a bit cheeky!)

Yeah Olly's always been a bit cheeky and I'm not surprised by that joke at all, that's his sense of humour all over. Nothing wrong with it.

As for the album itself, I'm not liking it as much as I hoped I would. Of the non-singles, 'Guilty' and 'Yesterday's News' are both brilliant, but the rest are pretty average. I will have another listen before making up my mind but I much preferred his previous album - I know it's not too well regarded but I really liked Marry Me!

It was in his broadcast channel too, so firmly something for his fans really.

Of course it made it to the tabloids which I guess is the risk with this sort of thing. Your own fans know you're joking but those outside of it don't, and when the story is out, people don't care about the explanation.

I gave this a listen on my walk today and it’s quite good. A nice return to form and I can definitely see myself coming back to it.

Guilty is great, it like classic 2010-2013 Olly Murs. I could see it being a top 3 hit with a great video and X-Factor performance back in the early 10’s.

‘Guilty’ should have really been released instead of ‘Run This Town’ and performed on Strictly it’s a great track.

The first verse of ‘Knees Up’ reminds me of ‘Chaise Longue’ by Wet Leg.

I agree, actually I think it probably should’ve been released second instead Bonkers and I like Bonkers.
