  • Q4 used to be good because of stocking fillers but now in a streaming dominated chart not so much , only really big artists tend to sell huge on the physical format these days

  • Yeah, it did make me chuckle when I heard that line

Thats very true and it changes what was really just a cheeky joke.

Number 3 in the mids and now chance of going higher by the looks of it, i just hope he can somehow stay top 3 now but i think it might be unlikely.

Number 3 is good. After a string of number one albums it'd be nice if he had another one, but it's a different climate.

After 7 consecutive top 2 albums id like to see him keep his streak of all albums going top 3 but i think it may not happen this time unless he pulls a few things out of the bag during the week.

I know the climate has changed but usually artists like Olly have strong opening weeks especially with multi format but the sales are disappointing as much as i hate to say it.

The sales are about what I expected (I can't remember what his last album opened with, but this has surely had about the same impact as that?)

Looks like this will struggle to reach that amount. In the chart update it had sold 7,296.

Which is a shame, as I think this is the better album.

I get the sense that this era isn't landing outside of his core fanbase, so I'm not too surprised that the position/sales are on a bit of a decline (granted, it has been a few years since he last released, so maybe this was inevitable). I've seen a handful of popular TikToks that are taking the mick out of his new music... and I know that doesn't speak for everyone, but that's not the best sort of attention to be getting!

Yeah, my feed has been filled with videos making fun of it - particularly the one with the line about Tesco.

To be fair, did the last one either?

I remember the song about being drunk getting a few headlines for how bad it was, but aside from that I'm pretty sure it was a complete tumbleweed.

He's in his 40s now so I don't expect him to be seen as "cool" in the way he was when he was riding on the wave of success from 2010 to 2014.

They say "all publicity is good publicity" though if people are just ripping into his material I'm not sure how much that would be helping.

Interview on BBC Breakfast yesterday:

Having had the album on all weekend, it's miles better than Marry Me for me. He's spoken about this as being the album he wanted to make after he came off The X Factor and I think that's evident in the sonic reference points - ska, Madness, The Streets etc.

The fact he's not touring this album (at the moment, it's just the Kentish Town Forum show next month and nothing else - as of yet - beyond that) would suggest that this is not something geared towards a wider audience than his previous albums and more of a passion project for want of a better expression.

TikTok can go in the trash where it belongs.

^ I think that's the main reason this era musically has been a miss for me unfortunately, I can't stand Madness!

Very true to be fair, that era felt fanbase driven too... just this new era appears to have landed even less well!

Will be interesting to see how the album holds up. There's a London signing forthcoming so that should give it a boost. I'd perhaps be wary of Olivia Dean (#6) and Tate McRae (#7), as they're both streaming strongly. I'm assuming The Beatles (#4) and Madness (#5) are predominantly physical based and shouldn't overtake?

I dont think its going to hold up well at all, the signing might help him stay in the low end of the chart but i think it will sink fast after this week.

I think it’ll be out of the top 100 after this week. Or somewhere in the 90-100 next week.

Ya as others said it doesn't seem to be landing at all outside the fanbase which can really only hold an album up for a week.

it’s a shame as I actually quite like it. But he’s had a good run, 15 years post X Factor.

I'll eat my hat if it even stays in the top 200 next week

'Save Me' started the era very strongly and seemed to be go down well when released but the rest of the album for me isn't of the same quality. Really he should have just performed that on Strictly and preferably when the album was released and it would have got a good few extra sales.
