Hey everyone! Honestly, I had no idea what to expect here or what kind of music you’re into, so I decided to send something upbeat that could get you moving but still has that retro vibe. As for YouTu

Lovely winner, well done Dobbo, one of my top five, the melody really reminds me of something English and poppy that I am trying to recall.

Bad luck Jim, always hurts to lose on a tiebreak but a good effort and congrats on second!

A really inspired top three which isn’t made up of the songs I’ve expected at all, well done!

Thanks Dan for hosting, great theme and presentation - very fun reveal!

The Top 2 were the ones I recognised the most at first listenthrough. That is coincidental.

And I guess that's that from me. I'm not sure I'm planning to be on the next edition. I did say it's maybe my only time!

*.* what a finish! 'Moskau' didn't quite make my points (ranked it 13th) while 'Omega' was my 10 pointer (I moved it up from 8 to 10 after my relisten so sorry for that costing you Jim!) so very happy with that, well done Dobbo. Good that we did get a relatively obscure winner in the end, the artist at least, it is probably by some distance the most well known Hungarian prog rock song due to the Kanye connection hehe (I do wonder if that was how you knew the song in the first place) but we'll take it nonetheless x It's also quite refreshing to see a song from as far back as the 60s managing to win one of these! Only the second winner from before the 80s and one of those was forced by being in specifically a 70s theme (the other one being Yellow Magic Orchestra from the very tail end of the 70s).

All of my top 4 finished in the top 5 so I cannot grumble too much at just missing out on it myself - really pleased to see Kolrassa Krókríðandi doing so well and even almost beating Sigur Rós for the Icelandic throne, all 3 of the Icelandic entries were fab so happy to see them all in the top 10 but was especially rooting for KK for being so much more obscure than the other two (and easily my favourite). Looking back at the archive 91 points is the highest score to date for 6th place (would have been enough for top 5 in every previous contest except maybe the first one where it'd be tied with 5th) so a little unlucky in that regard that the points at the top were so spread out, still happy with that performance anyway, have come top 10 in 3 of the last 5 contests which is a world of difference from my form prior to that where I was almost always bottom 5!

Thanks Dan for the hosting, was a good theme choice, plenty of good discoveries and really enjoyed the results reveal concept, kept me on my toes and worked out nicely with that dramatic tiebreak ending x

Congratulations to Dobbo, I don't think anyone predicted that one to win. I moved it up from 6 points to 8 points in my vote after my final listen.

7th place for my own song was much better than I was expecting. It was the first time in the retro contest that I didn't enter a song I already knew. I had to go hunting for something new and that was the best one I managed to find. Thanks to all who gave it points.

Thanks to Dan for such a good job hosting and bringing in the jury/televote twist.

The dream of a first ever TBSCITW...E! win goes on - it's also my fourth runner-up in a different song contest this year! Fifth overall as that's where I finished in the second of these in early 2023, with just the one win (the first Bop Idol) in the 69 contests I've entered. Still I didn't think I'd be in any sort of contention this time - this was literally the only song I had for this theme (Air would have been an option if I hadn't used that song in the trip hop & chill contest here). As with all my entries to these retro contests, its a song I've known for a long time - I first heard the English version on an Australian internet radio station in 2016, then after much searching I realised the only version on digital services was in German so tracked it down and it's been a fave of mine for years, long before the ongoing horrors began in 2022, so I really didn't know how it would go down here because of its title as well as its musical style. Thanks again to the big point scorers - Ansel for the bronze, Addy, Cody, Dobbo & Jester for silvers, and AllStar, Cow, Dan & Mango for the golds!

However it's congrats to Dobbo cheer I am pleased one of my high votes has taken the win, I had it stuck in my head long enough to push it up my rankings that crucial amount!

Thank you Dan for running this edition, and the rollercoaster of a reveal!

Yay congrats Dobbo clap

Winning by breaking a tie it’s always a case of ‘one will celebrate and the other will mourn’, but I am sure jimm is far from mourning…congrats to you as well for an amazing result.

Dan you did outstanding job with the theme and hosting <3

And here I was so close to keep my Top 10 streak for another contest, but who am I to complain lol. 11th is a new position lol and now again it’s a game on for me and @dandy* kink

Congrats Dobbo! Just realised both of the top 2 were next to each other in my votes so I could've changed that outcome on a different day! Good to have an inspired winner though and a unique nationality at that, most of the top 10 looks really good and most of my votes finished in the top half.

A fun edition overall, thanks for hosting Dan, the reveal really created some effective tension

To think that my confidence in Moskau was only beaten by a tiebreaker! cheeseblock I was completely sure @gooddelta was behind it because of the Schlager CD, but @jimwatts had some good taste here!

Congratulations, @Dobbo! I ranked your song 16th, but this contest is brutally tougher than I expected. o

Thanks @danG for the hosting!

Indeed I did include a different song by Dschinghis Khan on my BuzzJack Presents Schlager compilation last year, along with my own entry for any very eagle-eyed people (...) and Wow's entry (!)

Safe to say artists that appeared from this album had mixed fortunes in this contest.

It's maybe a nice companion listen for this contest anyway!

Hey everyone!

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect here or what kind of music you’re into, so I decided to send something upbeat that could get you moving but still has that retro vibe. As for YouTube, I picked the version with the only video I could find because it just seemed funny and kind of cute to me. I’m really happy with the results, the winning song was actually the one I gave my 12 points to! I also have to say this whole edition was great, there are quite a few songs I’ll keep listening to that I didn’t even know about before. I’m really glad I joined in!!

Congrats to everyone on both your results and your song choices! ❤️

And since I’m new to this forum, if someone could let me know when the next spin-off comes around, because there are a million subforums here and I’m not sure I can manage to catch it on my own when a new one starts.

Thanks to everyone who voted for Zdravko Čolić.

So do I get my wooden spoon in the post then...?

Yeah, this theme really was not my cup of tea, although I did discover a couple of great tracks while having to sit through some absolute.... songs that were not to my taste, let's say. But then clearly my entry was also not to other people's taste either lol oh well, onwards and upwards!

Great hosting and loved the Eurovision style reveal Dan!

Not sure I’m on board with the winner, but loved the runner up!

Mid table is good enough for me as no clue how the very 80s odd Scandal German sing would do.

Thanks for all the work and organisation Dan and what an exciting finale! My Omega one point point above Moskau also made a difference to the result! Great to see some real veteran entries, especially Marlene's, better known as folk song Where Have All The Flowers Gone back in the UK day, love it and an inspired choice as was Omega - that one reminds me a bit of early Aphrodite's Child*. I am also old enough to remember Dschinghis Khan competing in Eurovision 1979, I may well have even charted that one as I rather liked it. Congrats to Dobbo, condolences Jim, and thanks to everyone who gave points to Mina, much appreciated - I do love that song, rather obviously, especially since it popped up in the lovely Pixar movie Luca after the advert made it well known-ish.

(* see Vangelis, Demis Roussos, Rain & Tears, the wonderful Break, and quite-well-known-these-days prog-rock anthem The Four Horsemen)

Wowzers. First off Dan great shout with that reveal, made it super intense and exciting following along (although I did accidentally spoil the result for myself by first looking at the last few comments of the thread at the time lol but no biggie as was out all day yesterday so was keen to just check in on how my entry did) but I'm super made up with Omega actually winning this *_* I did think it would potentially get quite a few high scores along with plenty of snubs but to see it rack up a lot of the middling points and be voted for by more than two thirds of participants was very pleasantly surprising, thanks very much to all who threw it some love especially the medal positions. I was thinking maybe a low top 10 at best especially after it not receiving any contender mentions either!

I think I discovered the song via a Reddit thread when generically searching for older foreign language songs but there was definitely something about the melody when I listened to it that did sound familiar (as gooddelta alluded to). I can't confidently say it was because of the Ye sample but I did give all of his albums a spin one period back during lockdown so there must have been a faint bell ringing there somewhere. Definitely wouldn't have been The Scorpions cover though as I only found out about that afterwards. It really has an epic feel to it especially that last part with the wailing ad libs, surprised it wasn't better known actually and thought maybe someone else might have submitted it first. Had that been the case I had a few back ups including Skandal Im Sperrbezirk which I was vibing to pre-contest but unfortunately was the song that ended up being pushed out of my votes (with Fakta being the one I initially didn't think much of before it really clicking on my final listen through).

My top 3 being my entry and my 10 & 12 pointers, things we love to see! Moskau is really brilliant (I know and love their eponymous song but never thought to seek out anything else of theirs). I did think during my first listen through that they were a great shout for this contest and so it proved with an impressive haul of medals there! It was pretty close between that and Dimeroj for my 12 but the latter definitely stuck me a little more over the voting period, a brilliant discovery there and always nice to unknowingly give the host top marks! I really enjoyed Nono as well, was cool to hear a fictional language in this too. For what it's worth @danG you listed my 8 pointer as Mystère Dans Le Brouillard rather than Nono in the televote section, would imagine it hasn't affected the scoreboard but worth mentioning just in case. The former was the unfortunate song to rank in 11th for me in the end.

Bit of a shame to see Nono, Fakta and Zo Vrolijk all bottom half as I really enjoyed them. I really thought Nono would be a top 10 contender as it was definitely the most standout entry. Also shocked that Selena did so poorly, thought that would be a popular one! And lastly, echo the sympathy for Addy's amazing top 10 streak coming to an end. I had Mecano down as a contender for the win and it really grew on me during my last couple of listens.

Thanks very much to Dan for hosting, made some great discoveries in this one. In terms of the next edition I'll have to see about hosting, I do want to host a contest on here again as it's been quite the long while since the last time (Club Bizarre vol. 7!) but will have to check my schedule nearer the time. I seldom browse/post during weekends and evenings anymore anyway so it would likely be a daytime results thread which understandably isn't the best for engagement. Anyway I should stop rambling now. tl;dr: WOW THANKS EVERYONE!
