Ellie Goulding: Your Song (#2, 2010)

Tom Odell: Real Love (#7, 2014)

The Celeste one was lovely, still play it every December now!

I remember that Slow Moving Millie lived up to her name in chart performance, her Smiths cover didn't really get very far!

Is it just me or are Amazon using the same one as they did last year (the 3 grandmas going sledging), pretty lazy if so!

I thought the same!

Well they don't use big names anymore as well.

Labrinth is kind of a big name, he got a streaming hit a few years ago I remember. His music is all so sensible now though, miss the Labrinth of the early 2010s.

Labrinth as a name himself doesn’t sell, see the complete non performance of the John Lewis cover song on streaming.

his streaming hits from a few years ago were helped by being from a popular tv show and then further TikTok driven

then he had another more recently that was down to a billie eilish feature (even if uncredited it was fairly publicised she was on it)

Current Spotify streams of each John Lewis song:

2009 "Sweet Child o' Mine" Taken by Trees 62 million

2010 "Your Song" Ellie Goulding 257 million

2011 "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" Slow Moving Millie 2.9 million

2012 "The Power of Love" Gabrielle Aplin 74 million

2013 "Somewhere Only We Know" Lily Allen 387 million

2014 "Real Love" 6 November 2014 Tom Odell 65 million

2015 "Half the World Away" Aurora 125 million

2016 "One Day I'll Fly Away" Vaults 4.8 million

2017 "Golden Slumbers" Elbow 18 million

2019 "Can't Fight This Feeling" Bastille 16 million

2020 "A Little Love" Celeste 9 million

2021 "Together in Electric Dreams" Lola Young 2.9 million

2022 "All the Small Things" Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox feat. Puddles Pity Party 7 million

2023 "Festa" Andrea Bocelli 471k

2024 "Sonnet" Richard Ashcroft 3.3 million

This list doesn't include Elton's Your Song, because that obviously has tons of plays that aren't related to being used in the advert. It should also be noted that the songs from 2022 and 2024 were released prior to being featured in a John Lewis advert, but they weren't really notable.

Yeh thanks for this, I had forgotten a lot of the recent ones post 2020 including the nice version Lola did of Together in Electric Dreams

I think that version is dire! I was appalled when I first heard it, a song like that should not be turned into a spirit-crushingly dreary piano ballad.

I didn't know who she was back then though, and thankfully she's done more than enough to redeem herself since lol

😂 I love the song so was glad to hear a revival and loved Lola at that point so thought she might have got a hit from it!
