December 15, 2025Dec 15 Having a quick catch up, doesn't seem like I missed too much tbf , only ones I really like that have gone so far are Perfect moment, king of my castle and we're going to ibiza, had a mini obsession with the latter when I went to ibiza this year but as much as I like it it Is one of the weaker Vengaboys songs Perfect moment always reminds me of how quick she went from being run over in eastenders to releasing her first song 🤣 surprised she didnt have many more hits tbf
December 15, 2025Dec 15 Author 40 minutes ago, Jessie Where said:'Mi Chico Latino' is definitely better than 'Lift Me Up', actually pretty decent. Was it seen as a surprise #1 at the time after 'Look At Me' rather famously missed?'We're Going to Eat Pizza' = happy memories of Now 44!I wouldn't say it was a surprise, certainly it was anticipated to reach the top two, but just prior to the release it felt touch and go with Alice Deejay as they were still a threat but on the week Geri released they plateaued a bit and she easily outsold them. It was a quick course correction for her, as no doubt alarm bells would have rung had she missed again.25 minutes ago, 777666jason said:Having a quick catch up, doesn't seem like I missed too much tbf , only ones I really like that have gone so far are Perfect moment, king of my castle and we're going to ibiza, had a mini obsession with the latter when I went to ibiza this year but as much as I like it it Is one of the weaker Vengaboys songsPerfect moment always reminds me of how quick she went from being run over in eastenders to releasing her first song 🤣 surprised she didnt have many more hits tbfYeah, I do prefer We Like To Party and Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom myself of their 1999 singles. But it's good fun. That's true, they didn't waste any time on that did they! Strike while the iron is hot I guess.
December 15, 2025Dec 15 I wasn't huge on Mi Chico :Latino at the time, I liked it enough to buy it though. I probably would've had it below Look At Me and Lift Me Up, but it's now probably my favourite Geri song.
December 15, 2025Dec 15 We're Going To Ibiza is probably one of my least favourite Vengaboys songs, I can still enjoy it though. Oh and that music video! Did I see that Washington DC scene correctly?I love the remaining Vengaboys song that's yet to feature.
December 16, 2025Dec 16 Geri always was very underrated. Her solo music stuff is much better than Spice Girls. My favourite her singles are Desire, Calling and Lift Me Up. Almost each her single was # 1 in my chart. Desire was SOTY in 2005 year. Also she is # 2 in my all-time female solo singers list, behind Dutch beauty Ivana Raymonda Van Der Veen.
December 16, 2025Dec 16 'King of My Castle' is catchy but has minimalist and basic production (not like that's a good thing though), its like today's chart dance.'We're Going To Ibiza' is fun but I prefer other Venga tracks. Edited December 16, 2025Dec 16 by TheSnake
December 16, 2025Dec 16 Oh no, also Geri's second hit that low. For me this one is quite nice and several places higher for me.My places 25 to 21 are:25 Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough 5/10Quite OK cover version for Boyzone - better tha many of their other stuff.24 Five - Keep on Movin' 5/10Five are another overall boring boy band. This is one of their better songs, but I will never forgive them that horrible cover version of "We Will Rock You"23 Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) 5.5/10Listened to it the other day and found it quite boring, eventhough I remembered that song to be better. Novelty hit which aged badly for me.22 Wamdue Project - King Of My Castle 5.5/10Already talke about it - this is too repetative for me and gets really quickly on your nerves21 Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way 7/10Big jump in points and this is a song I really like, but 1999 was great for #1's, so this ends up slightly out of the Top 20. December 16, 2025Dec 16 Mr Oiso has always annoyed me. My tolerance for looped minimal music is fairly low sorry! Mi Chico always takes me back to driving to the West country to see the eclipse. I like the track and melodic Latin vibes generally.Vengaboys a bit cheesy its ok but i liked the original more. King of my castle was in a pub quiz last week and helped win a round of drinks and is a good dance track. The intro took me about 15 minutes to recognise after hearing 5 or 6 seconds of the clip. Hooray for me!
December 17, 2025Dec 17 Author Lenny Kravitz - Fly AwayRank: 7.5/10Reason: It was quite difficult to decide what missed the top 20 really as it is a high quality year, and I do like some of the novelty stuff left myself and the remaining boyband songs too! So I've chosen Lenny Kravitz with his only No.1 single, the rock track Fly Away. Lenny's biggest hit prior to this was the brilliant Are You Gonna Go My Way in 1993, which reached No.4, although I think my favourite from him was the smooth It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over in 1991, which should have done far better than No.11. He hadn't peaked above No.20 since 1993 (and never did again after Fly Away), making this hit a bit out of the blue in many ways but it was featured on a popular Peugeot TV advert at the time, which helped its cause no end.A strong funk rock track with a great intro and production, some passionate vocals from Lenny and a memorable chorus, the track had a fairly short chart run in the end of 1-3-8-13-22-29-36-36 although despite that it was everywhere at the time and I do still hear it now from time to time. As it was sliding down but still in the top 40, Roxette debuted just outside the top 10 with Wish I Could Fly, which made me laugh at the time. This track also reached the top 10 in various other European countries and No.12 in the US. Many countries also got a fantastic follow-up in American Woman, from the Austin Powers 2 soundtrack, although that must have been cancelled here, despite getting quite a bit of airplay. Shame as I liked that song even more. Edited December 17, 2025Dec 17 by gooddelta

Although will get into that later!Five’s song is a bit of a classic here. Still always on the radio and highly streamed, I still think it’s great although was a bit hit or miss with their music generally. Edited December 17, 2025Dec 17 by gooddelta

It's one I really got into about 17-18 years ago.
December 17, 2025Dec 17 I've really come to appreciate Fly Away more and more as the years have gone on, saying that it probably wouldn't make my top 10 though. This was also the first time I noticed two songs with the same name for the first time. I was a big B*Witched fna at the time and really adored this b-side with the same name. Though the two songs aren't similar at all.

December 17, 2025Dec 17 Author Robbie Williams - She's The One / It's Only UsRank 7.5/10Reason: Now onto a double a-side from Robbie Williams, and the final release from his I've Been Expecting You album. She's The One is a lovely ballad, although is a note for note cover of the World Party original from a couple of years earlier, with the same style of singing and intonation throughout apart from some ad libs that Robbie added at the end of his. Apparently the original songwriter Karl Wallinger also wasn't aware that Robbie had covered it and put the song - which was written as a tribute to his mother - on his album. Either way, Robbie made it his own and lyrically it also works as a straightforward love song, and it became a huge radio hit and one of his classic ballad singles, with a great ice skating video to boot. The song managed 10 weeks in the top 40 over the Christmas period, which was impressive for a song that had been on a million selling album released a year earlier. It also had decent success in some other countries, including No.1 in Greece and top five in New Zealand and Ireland. In the UK the single was backed with It's Only Us, a rockier recording with a semi animated video made for the FIFA 2000 soundtrack and which didn't appear on any of Robbie's studio albums (apart from a later 2002 reissue of I've Been Expecting You). I've not got a lot to say about that track, clearly inspired by Manic Street Preachers, it was a bit like an average version of Australia and would make an ok album track, but for me wasn't single material. If I was splitting the two sides up, It's Only Us would be about 10 places lower, and She's The One maybe a few places higher. But Strong was my favourite Robbie single of 1999, while No Regrets was the highlight of that album by far, but all of his best singles always stalled at No.4 for some reason...It was quite amazing, overall though, that somebody who wasn't even the lead singer of a boyband he started the decade in, should wind up closing the decade out as the UK's biggest male artist, at this point a true superstar. December 17, 2025Dec 17 Love 'Fly Away', I remember that Peugeot advert was on the TV for what seemed like an eternity but it's held up well. It was my birthday #1 that year also.I liked 'She's The One' at the time, but I find it a bit too schmaltzy these days.

Hopefully it gets added again soon.
December 17, 2025Dec 17 I like quite a number of Robbie Williams singles but neither of these two do anything for me.
December 17, 2025Dec 17 Agreed that most of Robbie's best songs got to #4! 'Angels', 'No Regrets', 'Feel' and 'Come Undone' are all especially great for me. 'She's The One' is a fine chart topper for him although it took me way too long to discover that it was a cover. I can definitely hear the Manics comparison for 'It's Only Us'.'Fly Away' is also a good'un, especially the funky guitar and soaring chorus. It certainly was a shame that 'It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over', his most streamed song nowadays, missed the top 10. I guess it sort of reached #2 via being sampled in Mutya's 'Real Girl' Shall save further thoughts for later but I'm totally with you on the Baz Luhrmann love
December 17, 2025Dec 17 Two great #1's of 1999. It is really insane how good that year was and the #1's are just the tip of the iceberg. Usually you would think #21 that is not that good, but for that list only nuances make the places. "Fly Away" obviously is fantastic but only ranks slightly better in my list. The gap for "She's The One" is bit bigger - it is one of my favourite songs from Robbie - "It's Only Us" on the other hand is pretty average in my opinion.

There was plenty of rubbish too, but 1999 was so incredibly diverse at No.1 and throughout the charts really.
