Without any further ado let's get on with the results...

Amazingly one in ten of this whole rundown is taken up by one woman - Dua Lipa. I don't think we've seen such domination before. Alas, three of her titles are knocked out in the bottom ten. Her newest entry, 'Training Season' which followed-up 'Houdini' is at the very end of the list, whilst 'Break My Heart' cracks the ranking for the first time in its five-year history and 'Hallucinate' re-appears for a third time.

Charli xcx had a very impressive 2024 with four of her brattiest songs making it to the final ranking. Bottom of the bunch was the song that led it all in 'Von dutch' which was also voted Buzzjack's favourite dance hit of the year. Between them, Billie Eilish once again has her best song of the ranking finish the lowest amongst them - 'When the Party's Over' now down to second-from-last. Her Barbie soundtrack hit takes a dip to also place in the bottom 10 leaving four more titles from her to go. Grimes is still here too however her stock has fallen massively with a 50+ place drop for 'Kill V Maim' with her other semi-regular having not made the semi-finals - it's now the last year for both.

Lana Del Rey has a new forum favourite (of the last ten years at least) as the lengthy A&W climbs into the region in its second year. We always like to see a song eventually breaking through after bubbling under for years though and that's what we get with Blossoms who finally crack it with only one year to go before exiled to the old music pile with their biggest seller 'Charlemagne'. Ava Max also returns to the region with 'My Head & My Heart' not quite managing to scale the height of 86th where it debuted.

Big drop for Grimes!

Was expecting Von dutch to do better, but then I guess there was a fair amount of xcx in the final

Sad ending for Grimes.

I felt at the time that last year's final was maybe a high water mark / unusually favourable to indie and alternative (beneath the top 10 itself which was almost pure pop!)

Can see a few more indie and alt songs from last year's top 100 also having fair sized falls

Training Season robbed, it's one of my favourite pop songs from the past couple of years

Also, Grimes deserved so much better - guess the voting demographic must have shifted a fair bit

'when the party's over' was breathtakingly beautiful to experience live this year wub shame it has slipped but at least it managed top 100 again / a round 200 pts.

The Ava Max Head and Heart kind of got overshadowed as a classic by the Joel Corry/MNEK one of similar name!

Some more Charli xcx is ordered, with the album opener '360' placing here alongside its biggest hit taken from the remixed version - 'Guess' which was much-assisted by Billie Eilish who'd also had a big 2024 in her own right. Another Charli remix is yet to appear as her top performing song. As the first of 7 appearances for Ariana Grande, 'God Is A Woman' remains stable in the lower section of the countdown at 90th. Lil Nas X returns after a year off with self-titled hit 'Montero', not quite his biggest hit but his highest regarded here.

All three Lady Gaga appearances here are collaborations, which may change next year with 'Abracadabra's eligibility. Until then, to start off she is back in the list with soundtrack hit 'Shallow'. Zara Larsson sees a revival for 'Lush Life' assisted by its recent virality boost - it is now her third year in the top 100 after a six year break and will have one more chance to best its 70th peak. Beyonce's soul remains unbroken as her dance hit rises in the countdown to 85th - it is her sole appearance here as Buzzjack didn't quite take to the more recent country album.

A few songs have taken tumbles this year and in this section we have one from Olivia Rodrigo, out from last year's top 40 with her biggest hit 'Good 4 U' which means a different song of hers is now the forum fave. Calvin Harris has a respectable final finish to round out the decade for HAIM collab 'Pray To God', that made the final round in six years. We're also due our dose of Lipa here with 'Houdini' rising a little from last year's debut which is good to see.

I still enjoy 'God is a woman' a lot but 'no tears left to cry' has ended up ageing better for me. I think the trappy elements of the former have dated a bit more. Still a great run of singles, also stretching to 'breathin', though.

Agreed with Dandy that 'Training Season' was robbed! Good to see 'Houdini' climbing a bit in that latest batch.

Feels like Brat is underperforming! But I guess it had a fair few songs in the final.

Not bothered by the recent Dua songs dropping so soon - none of them were great

Ouch at that fall for good 4 u. Also would like to see Shallow a bit higher personally. Perhaps biased by having sung it at karaoke!

Not much else to get excited about in these early reveals since it's mostly minor hits of artists who'll also be appearing much higher up!

I guess its the Olivia hiatus effect. Good 4 U is a good upbeat pop rock tune!

We need a new Calvin Harris/HAIM collab, Pray To God was very good, and now I reckon the production was inspired by Strings of Life by Derrick May!

The two Olivia songs fall not far from each other then, with 'Vampire' just ahead as it takes less of a hit down to 80th. The number of Eurovision songs in the final increased by one with Måneskin's winning entry now breaking in at 76th, proving itself now more popular here than their English language hits. It became the first Italian language song to hit the UK chart within the 21st century following its contest victory. They are joined by another foreign language Eurovision hit from Go_A who stabilise at 79th having cracked the top 20 two years back.

Last year was uniquely big for indie in this competition however there has been a noticeable shift back towards the pop this time which is emphasised by three dips from last year's top 20 appearing here. Taylor Swift's collab with Bon Iver was formerly her top-rated entry but she is now exiled from the top half and has four songs placing higher. Billie Eilish is no longer "happier than ever" after having spent three years in the top fifth of the countdown. Metric's top 20 placing proves to be quite the impressive fluke as they now sink to a still respectable (for a non-hit) 73rd with the epic 'Doomscroller'.

Dua Lipa songs keep dropping like flies with 'New Rules' and 'Be The One' from her debut both departing the top half of the countdown. Not to worry as she still has 4 songs left to appear (and perhaps her having so many songs in this time has been a detriment to some of their positions). Meanwhile the excellent dance hit of 2016 'This Girl' is here for another year, it still has one last chance to return to the top 40 but for now it's still bubbling around this area of the chart.

Argh I don't know if one or two regular voters were missing this year but 60 place falls for two of my absolute favourites (Doomscroller and Happier Than Ever) and one other goodun (Exile) confirms that this year has lurched back to pop domination. 😥

Confused by the Happier Than Ever collapse - the others were arguably benefitting from last year's rate being specifically indie-friendly, but Happier Than Ever has been stable top 20 every year since release til now?

I didn't give it points as I did last year and quite simply it's because I think the Kelly Clarkson version makes the song entirely different, I can't now enjoy Billie's original in the same way because of the power behind it giving it an "umph" that it needed to really hammer home the angst within the song.

Kelly Clarkson's done a version of Happier Than Ever?!

More Dua Lipa is ordered this time alongside Calvin Harris with their summer smash 'One Kiss', the song yet to ever make it to the top half of the final but has always comfortably qualified in. Sir Calvin will be making another appearance later on. Another summer dance anthem is next from Peggy Gou who unfortunately has quite the tumble from last year's top 40. To perhaps no-ones surprise this remains her only chart hit but what a song it is to be that. With only one year left before Daft Punk are gone for good both their Weeknd collab hits climb this year, firstly the discoesque 'I Feel It Coming' which comes close to re-peaking.

New in at the kids favourite number 67 we have another future classic Gaga ballad duet, 'Die With a Smile' which led the campaign for 2025's 'Mayhem' album, which did the unthinkable and outdo 'Shallow' to be her biggest hit of the streaming era a good 15 years on from her debut. She has one entry left whilst Bruno Mars has two, all collaborations. In a year where indie favourites have suffered to buck the trend we have Fat Dog's debut release climb into the top 100 in its second year. 'King of the Slugs' like with 'Doomscroller' is another long indie epic which had a lot of word-of-mouth Buzzjack hype despite making no chart impact.

For perhaps the first time in ROTD we also get a country duet ballad cracking the top 100, in its second year coming from Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgraves whose song was an instant US #1 but more of a sleeper hit in the UK eventually cracking the top 20 in 2024. Soon-to-be her biggest ever streaming hit, 'Birds of a Feather' was quickly taken as the fan fave from the new Billie Eilish album even with her pushing a different song as the single at first. It now enters here as Buzzjack's second-favourite of hers. We say "hello" to Adele twice as two of her ballads from '25' both register large climbs to re-peak and end up next to each other, the album's lead a single point ahead. The Carly Rae fandom remains here too with 'Cut To The Feeling' stabilising after reaching a new peak last year.
