Kylie getting it would honestly be such a moment but since Golden onwards her UK fanbase has been so good on release weeks and she’s still achieving chart peaks!! Rooting for her to do it!

Next year will be 10 years since George Michael’s passing. I can’t see that not resonating next year.

But if Kylie achieves the #1 this year, it might encourage bigger names next year to go for it. Harry Styles maybe?

Back in 2019/20 when Ellie got the No.1 after Christmas I was dead against the Alexa trickery - and I even was one of the probably very few people to pay to download River on Amazon myself when it came out as I like it, but let’s be honest barely anyone else did and it felt unfair.

I don’t care as much anymore for three reasons:

1) XMAS is at least somewhat popular

2) I hate the same song being Christmas No.1 every year and it’s nice to have a battle - now if it was stopping a single that had never been there before that was organically popular then I might not be siding with Kylie

3) Spotify are almost as bad as Amazon forcing Kylie onto people with their playlist position choices dominating the charts in almost the order they set. Are we really supposed to believe that Wizzard is suddenly only the 22nd most popular Christmas song in this country behind a load of crooners that never charted here before? I dare them to switch Bobby Helms’ position with Wizzard (which is down in the 60s!) on the Christmas Hits playlist next year and see what happens

I mean this in absolute no offence, but to the general public, I think George Michael resonated with people in a way that Shane couldn’t possibly. That’s not to say he didn’t and his passing wasn’t sad, but we’re talking about George Michael here who died on Christmas Day, whose song is called last Christmas. It touches on every moment it could.

Unfortunately it’s up to Spotify and Amazon. The fans have suggested this to me many times, and I’ve explained it’s just not feasible.

Just realised I said somewhere it was going to be a battle between Kylie and Brenda to be number 3 on the streaming chart. Of course that’s not true 🤦🏼‍♂️ Brenda’s streams won’t be halved on the streaming chart - so she will have double Kylie.

But still, I hope we find out how their streams compare.

If it was done as a request, wouldn’t it need to be done before the start of the chart week, rather than an increase related reset?

Anyway, the OCC have already indicated that they want Kylie to be Number 1 apparently, so they’d refuse, and on good grounds.

Kylie getting it though makes me hopeful other names might try and an original release (not just Amazon exclusive…) but another original track from someone like Ariana who streams well (or wishful thinking here but a Gaga OG Christmas track!! *whats not Christmas tree*.

UK wise I can see someone like JADE potentially doing one next year?! But it’s good to see a new Christmas track be in the running for the festive #1 and one what’s actually decent too!

Yes! What a splendid song this is ♥️ I adore 'Last Christmas' and always will, but these days I never have a need to play it out of choice as it's so EVERYWHERE.

As for next year's Amazon exclusive, I could see them maybe giving it to Paloma Faith or somebody of that ilk?
