Biography

The Plastic Ono Band was a rock band and Fluxus-based artist collective formed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1968-9 for their collaborative musical and sound art projects, films, conceptual art projects and eventual solo LPs. The creation of The Plastic Ono Band, which began in 1967 with Ono's idea for an art exhibition in Berlin, allowed Lennon to separate his artistic output from that of The Beatles. Lennon and Ono began a personal and artistic relationship in 1968, collaborating on several experimental releases. After their marriage in 1969, they decided their future endeavours would be credited to the Plastic Ono Band. The band featured a rotating line-up of musicians including Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann, Alan White, Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, Keith Moon, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and Lennon's former Beatles bandmates George Harrison and Ringo Starr. After Lennon and Ono moved to New York in 1971, they collaborated with Elephant's Memory under the name "Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory Band". Lennon's collaborations continued under similar names until 1974. From 2009 to 2015, Ono and her son Sean Lennon led a new incarnation of the group, the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band. - Wikipedia

On the 14th 22 years ago, this re-entered the chart at 33 as a bit of a spoiler to counterargue against that year's favourite with the bookies, the final 12 of series 2 of Pop Idol's cover version which eventually debuted and peaked at number five.

The former Beatles' Christmas songs are massive jokes amongst me and my friends, don't think I'll ever take them seriously again 😂

One thing I’m gutted about is despite Olivia Dean’s big breakthrough this year, her version of The Christmas Song isn’t doing particularly well. Such a stunning cover and miles better than the original imo. Same with Stay Another Day by Jorja Smith

This! I can’t believe the Swifties are not all over it each year - she even recorded an updated version as an Amazon Exclusive and that couldn’t even get it in the Top 40.

Speaking of The Idols, I saw their cover on Spotify a few days ago but noticed it's greyed out today I wonder what happened there!

Glad this song is getting a play this week at least, not sure why Radio 1 don't play it more!
