Biography

The Plastic Ono Band was a rock band and Fluxus-based artist collective formed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1968-9 for their collaborative musical and sound art projects, films, conceptual art projects and eventual solo LPs. The creation of The Plastic Ono Band, which began in 1967 with Ono's idea for an art exhibition in Berlin, allowed Lennon to separate his artistic output from that of The Beatles. Lennon and Ono began a personal and artistic relationship in 1968, collaborating on several experimental releases. After their marriage in 1969, they decided their future endeavours would be credited to the Plastic Ono Band. The band featured a rotating line-up of musicians including Eric Clapton, Klaus Voormann, Alan White, Billy Preston, Jim Keltner, Keith Moon, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and Lennon's former Beatles bandmates George Harrison and Ringo Starr. After Lennon and Ono moved to New York in 1971, they collaborated with Elephant's Memory under the name "Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory Band". Lennon's collaborations continued under similar names until 1974. From 2009 to 2015, Ono and her son Sean Lennon led a new incarnation of the group, the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band. - Wikipedia

On the 14th 22 years ago, this re-entered the chart at 33 as a bit of a spoiler to counterargue against that year's favourite with the bookies, the final 12 of series 2 of Pop Idol's cover version which eventually debuted and peaked at number five.

The former Beatles' Christmas songs are massive jokes amongst me and my friends, don't think I'll ever take them seriously again 😂

One thing I’m gutted about is despite Olivia Dean’s big breakthrough this year, her version of The Christmas Song isn’t doing particularly well. Such a stunning cover and miles better than the original imo. Same with Stay Another Day by Jorja Smith

yall are they playing a different version? it sounds so much different

I think this is the 2020 Ultimate Mix - one of the newer remasters.

goated xmas song lets be real

Goated? do people still say GOAT in 2025 thought it went out of fashion about 3 years ago ;)

Glad Shake The Snow Globe is out of the top 40 though, that one’s an absolute mess 🫣

i do cos i am stuck in 2022 😭

Just noticed that as of this week, Happy Xmas has charted in the top 100 for 2 years.

Off topic but I’m lowk shocked that Taylor Swift song has never reached the Top 40, and doesn’t look like it’s going to this year either. Not even a fan of hers but it’s kinda a banger

This! I can’t believe the Swifties are not all over it each year - she even recorded an updated version as an Amazon Exclusive and that couldn’t even get it in the Top 40.

It’s mad that she does so well with everything apart from her Christmas song.

I get that with 'Wonderful Christmas Time' but always enjoyed this one

Biography

Has anyone ever been cooler than The Ronettes? Formed in the late ’50s, the vocal group became the stuff of teenage rock ’n’ roll dreams when “Be My Baby” went to No. 2 on the U.S. pop singles chart in 1963. The hits kept coming. With their uptown glamour, the family act from New York City had the look that suddenly every girl wanted and, with Phil Spector behind the trio as producer, a sound like no one else. The Ronettes’ influence continues to reverberate through popular music. It’s there in The Jesus and Mary Chain’s mix of noisy rumble and sweetest melody. You can see it in Amy Winehouse’s beehive, eyeliner, and attitude. Ronnie Spector, the fearless lead singer with a voice like a chapel bell, was the blueprint—it was that voice, and her ability to evoke the euphoria of young love, that made The Ronettes the legends they are. - Apple Music

sleigh ride!

Radio 1 is ALLERGIC to this song so nice to see it getting played here

Good this isn't top 20 this week, hate it. Poor Ronnie Spector 🙁

See my comment on the Darlene Love track because this is from the same album.

Oh 'Sleigh Ride' is great too... what a wonderful back-to-back!

Speaking of The Idols, I saw their cover on Spotify a few days ago but noticed it's greyed out today thinkingI wonder what happened there!

Glad this song is getting a play this week at least, not sure why Radio 1 don't play it more!
