It wasn’t that it won awards (it did). It wasn’t even that it broke new ground for where hip-hop might go. For Lamar, the success was that people sang it in the streets. “A lot of people don’t have voices out there,” he said. “So to see them actually express themselves through song, through lyrics that I wrote?” For a kid from Compton whose life was transformed by hip-hop, the fame was nice, but the singing, the spirit, the possibility that his music was opening a cultural inroad for people joining the fight for civil rights—that was real. He might’ve been writing alone. But he was speaking for many. Born in 1987, Lamar grew up under the influence of JAY-Z, Eminem, and 2Pac—for the wordplay, for the imagination, for the heart and sense of community. Given its popularity, Lamar’s music can be surprisingly dense, taking shape in winding, album-length narratives (good kid, m.A.A.d city), live-band hybrids of jazz and funk (To Pimp a Butterfly), and quasi-conceptual explorations of self (2017’s Pulitzer Prize–winning DAMN.). Yes, he wants greatness. But he wants it on his own terms. “I’m not doing it to have a good song,” he said. “Or one good rap. Or a good hook, or a good bridge. I want to keep doing it every time, period. And to do it every time you have to challenge yourself, and you have to confirm to yourself—not anybody else—that you’re the best.” Five years after the release of DAMN., Lamar continued his self-administered competition with Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, an album that was as cathartic as it was exhilarating. Cultivated during a time he sought therapy, the release saw the rapper find creativity, controversy, and clarity as he unearthed the dormant trauma beneath his own rap stardom. Inventive and unsparing, the LP gave new dimensionality to an artist and an entire community, proving that, sometimes, the best tests are the ones we give ourselves. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2012 57 Swimming Pools (Drank) -1- MILLIONAIRE2012 50 F**kin' Problems (A$AP Rocky feat. The boy band went head-to-head with demon-hunting girl group HUNTR/X while navigating supernatural forces with songs like "Soda Pop" and the darker "Your Idol" from the internationally charting soundtrack. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2025 01 Golden (HUNTR/X, EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI & KPop Demon Hunters Cast) -OST- MILLIONAIRE2025 05 Your Idol (Saja Boys, Andrew Choi, Neckwav, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee & KPop Demon Hunters Cast) -OST-2025 09 How It's Done (HUNTR/X, EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI & KPop Demon Hunters Cast) -OST-2025 03 Soda Pop (Saja Boys, Andrew Choi, Neckwav, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee & KPop Demon Hunters Cast) -OST-2025 24 TAKEDOWN (TWICE) -OST-2025 32 Strategy (TWICE) -OST-2025 13 What It Sounds Like (HUNTR/X, EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI & KPop Demon Hunters Cast) -OST-1 x #1 | 3 x Top 5 | 4 x Top 10 | 5 x Top 20 | 7 x Top 40 | 7 x Top 100Social Media KPop Demon Hunters-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------43Sabrina CarpenterPlease Please Please2nd single from Short n' SweetReleased: 7th June 2024Label: Island RecordsEnd of Year Chart RunNE (2024) | 10-43Chart StatisticsNE (20/06/2024) | [3-1-1-1-2-2-1-1-2-16-17-2-2-5-4-5-5-5-x]RE (27/02/2025) | 9-15-18-14-13-16-18-xSales: 1,700,000+Certification: 2x Platinum02 Sales01 Audio Streaming02 Video StreamingVideoBiographySabrina Carpenter has made the transition from teen-TV star to pop-dominating force look remarkably easy. It helps that the actor and singer-songwriter—born in 1999 in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania—pursued both sides of her career in tandem, releasing music while establishing a regular presence on the Disney Channel and through other acting gigs, including on Broadway. And on her first two albums—2015’s Eyes Wide Open and 2016’s EVOLution—Carpenter set herself apart from her teenage peers with her deft delivery and her eagerness to embrace plenty of dance music sounds. Singular Act I and Singular Act II—a two-part album that dropped in 2018 and 2019—provided yet more proof of her fast-developing abilities as a singer and songwriter who had moved past teen-star stereotypes to become a full-fledged club powerhouse. Later, Carpenter stepped back sonically to express herself more personally, as on the intimately acoustic “skinny dipping,” from her fifth album, emails i can’t send. Still, the sheer fun of it all has never waned. Just listen to one of the many ad-libbed outros in her live performances of the album’s pop hit “Nonsense,” or indeed the lyrical playfulness of “Espresso,” the flirty funk banger that became summer 2024’s defining hit—and which provided Carpenter’s official breakout moment. Next came the Jack Antonoff-produced “Please Please Please” (which became the summer’s second-biggest hit) and her sixth record Short n’ Sweet, a showcase of the most winking, witty music of Carpenter’s career so far. But if it saw the newly crowned pop princess take aim at past relationships, it also saw her take aim at herself. “A lot of what I really love about this album is the accountability,” she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I will call myself out just as much as I will call out someone else.” - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2021 28 Skin -NAS-2023 32 Nonsense -1-2023 19 Feather -2-2023 16 A Nonsense Christmas -1-2023 83 buy me presents -AT-2024 01 Espresso -1- MILLIONAIRE2024 01 Please Please Please -2- MILLIONAIRE2024 01 Taste -3- MILLIONAIRE2024 06 Bed Chem -4-2024 24 Juno -AT-2025 06 Busy Woman -5-2025 01 Manchild -1-2025 03 Tears -2-2025 07 My Man On Willpower -AT-2025 09 When Did You Get Hot? -AT-2025 17 House Tour -AT-2025 88 Nobody's Son -AT-2025 76 The Life Of A Showgirl (Taylor Swift feat.
