The cut off point has been reached! It's the same points score as last year. 101 singles had a points total greater than 61 points. There were two on 62 points so I've allowed them both through rathe

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 40 people who voted. The results will start this evening.

  • Having a slice of toast while watching the evening news in honour. “I Hear You Now” was a gorgeous discovery at the 80s hit sessions, but I couldn’t quite fit it into my votes.

Bryan Adams - Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven

Rick Astley - Take Me To Your Heart

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - The Girl Is Mine

Luude and Mattafix - Big City Life

Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven came out about four months after Bryan Adams' sixteen week stay at number 1 with (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. Michael Jackson makes his daily appearance this time with the first single to be taken from his huge selling album Thriller. So far he has scored 4, 8, 12 and 16 points so very neatly ordered. Take Me To Your Heart was the sixth of eight consecutive top 10 hits for Rick Astley.

Noooo, not RuPaul’s favourite ever song (Rick Astley) only getting 16 points 🤯

Yeah, RuPaul must be gutted if he's reading this!

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony - Tha Crossroads

Feist - 1234

M People - How Can I Love You More (remix)

Puddle Of Mudd - Blurry

The Saturdays - If This Is Love

Dusty Springfield - In The Middle Of Nowhere

How Can I Love You More was M People's first hit in 1991, reaching number 29. This remix by Sasha gave them their first top 10 single in 1993. From 1965, In The Middle Of Nowhere was a fourth top 10 hit for Dusty Springfield. The Saturdays, who have been mentioned in today's comments, lose the second of their two songs.

Love the OG of M People’s first hit so to me it’s a No29 single.

Gutted for Dusty, I only became aware of it when it became the theme tune to one of my favourite ever comedy programs, Smack the pony.

What’s the benchmark for making it to the next round? Apols if it’s already been said.

Ah ok, no worries. Just people were lamenting songs not getting through and I thought I’d missed something.

I assumed that the countdown would stop when there are 100 songs left - so any songs announced haven’t got through.

Atomic Kitten - Someone Like Me / Right Now (2004 remix)

Liam Payne and Rita Ora - For You

Roy Wood - Forever

Michael Zager Band - Let's All Chant

With this single reaching number 8, Roy Wood had managed top 10 hits with three different groups (The Move, ELO and Wizzard) and as a solo artist. This is not a unique feat as I know Midge Ure did the same and there may be others but I doubt anyone did it as quickly as Roy with a gap of less than seven years from The Move's first hit 'Night Of Fear' to Forever. Also here is the disco classic from 1978, Let's All Chant, which was also a hit for Pat and Mick in 1988 and Gusto in 1996.

Echo and The Bunnymen - The Cutter

Gerry and The Pacemakers - Ferry 'Cross The Mersey

The Game - Dreams

Jermaine Jackson - Let's Get Serious

Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets

Louis Tomlinson featuring Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals - Back To You

From 1983, The Cutter was one of three top 10 hits for Echo and The Bunnymen. One of the others also reached number 8 and is still to come. They came from Liverpool, as did Gerry and The Pacemakers who are here with Ferry 'Cross The Mersey from 1964 which went onto be a number 1 in a new version by Gerry and other Liverpool musicians in 1989. Another member of the Jackson family loses a song while Louis Tomlinson is the second One Direction member to appear today.

Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street

Mai Tai - History

Vanity Fare - Early In The Morning

This was the first hit for the Dutch based Guyanese group. The follow-up, 'Body And Soul' reached number 9 but they were soon history with no further top 40 hits. It's back to the sixties for Vanity Fare's biggest hit and the fourth of six top 10 singles by Bob Dylan.

Backstreet Boys - I'll Never Break Your Heart

Lonnie Donegan - Rock Island Line

Bobby Darin - La Mer (Beyond The Sea)

James Morrison - Wonderful World

Nelly - Just A Dream

Ultravox - All Stood Still

As mentioned earlier today, Midge Ure had top 10 hits with three different groups, the others being Slik and Visage whose Fade To Grey is part of this poll as well. All Stood Still was the follow-up to Vienna (if you don't count that re-issued single from their old label). Bobby Darin's single goes back to 1960 while Lonnie Donegan's Rock Island Line goes back even further, to 1956. It was the first of seventeen top 10 hits for him, including three number 1s.

Mai Tai - History I voted for and its very good - I discovered in the BBC 4 TOTP reruns a few years ago. Its quite dark-sounding disco production wise which is my favourite type of disco.

I like 'All Stood Still', an early electronic dance hit that is a bit forgotten in Ultravox's discography!

‘The Cutter’ is the next of my votes to drop out! ‘The Killing Moon’ rightfully gets a lot of love but this deserves more too wub

Sorry, I must have missed that. Maybe you giving 28 points to her sister Cardi B made me not see her and move straight to the 26 points. The 11 points were from The Snake so I have added the 27 points to her score.

I've finally figured out what happened. When I'm adding each person's vote to the scoreboard, the songs are listed alphabetically by the artist name. I had Katy B under B and K so her 27 and 11 point scores were on different pages. That's a relief to me as I'm always careful to take enough time adding each person's vote to the scores to avoid any errors.

Some I certainly considered for votes like Echo and Bob. And nice to see “Rock Island Line” getting some love - that skiffle style was so groundbreaking and so dynamic compared to most of what was around at the time.

Ace Of Base - Cruel Summer

Double - The Captain Of Her Heart

Sabrina Johnston - Peace

Johnny Keating - The Theme From 'Z Cars' (Johnny Todd)

Ed Sheeran - Don't

Owner Of A Lonely Heart by Max Graham vs. Yes scored 25 points but has been disqualified as it peaked at number 9

From 1986, this was the only top 40 hit for the Swiss duo. Ace Of Base's cover of Cruel Summer bows out but the original is still to come. The theme from Z Cars was a hit in 1962 but lives on at Everton FC.
