Culture Beat - Mr. Vain (Platinum)

German Eurodance at its best along with Snap Enigma Scooter Captain Hollywood etc

The best years in the 90s ❤️

I loved that era, and those Eurodance tunes too.

I just love doing the certifications and observing the charts. It pleases my little, autistic brain.

I'll be continuing to do the certifications every Friday. It'll be a nice distraction.

Am I the only one here that somehow looks forward to that more than the weekly OCC singles and albums charts? 😃

Hi Ren silver and Lose Control gold is good to see. Kenny Rogers certified after mentioning it in the Christmas number 3 rate is spooky. Can't believe the Pokemon theme was certified, what a banger!

2 dance classics going platinum in 'Mr. Vain' and 'At Night' <3 great to see 'luther' passing the mark too.

Oh my at the triple silver certifications for Olivia Dean. Poor 'Baby Steps' not yet getting to chart at all despite having an almost identical level of popularity overall to the other two songs which have both had their turns in the chart well inside the top 40.

At Night is doing well. Since streaming its got a new certificate every 3/4 years. 2x Platinum in 2030

Not sure if mentioned yet but BPI have upgraded their website

I'm glad the release date filter has been fixed, too bad most releases do not have the correct release dates (pre-1994 releases are still marked as being released on the 14th November 2004) so it is still a headache to look for stuff!

Its slow and it keeps giving errors.

It also struggles doing a second search after the first sometimes.

I think this is caused by punctuation. Search Arsonist's Lullaby by Hozier and it gets frazzled

Can the Offical Charts and BPI ever give us correctly functioning sites! Doing a certification search for one song/album shouldn't be so laborious! I mean, have a drop down box like the RIAA to show certication history of a particular song/album!

Also, is it just me or have they completely wiped all pre-digital awards from their re-designed site for those artists that have gained awards since 2004?

Nope they are still there for me. Why BPI can't make the website work the way the OCC website does (which also isn't great but way better!) is beyond me.

True! I typed in Michael Jackson - Thriller (single) but it lists 2014 as the earliest certification date which is incorrect.

I think it was like that on the old site too. Some releases skip over certifications for absolutely no reason e.g. Mamas and The Papas "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" went straight to gold and skipped silver which threw me off when compiling the biggest songs of the 60s. The original "Do They Know It's Christmas" has all of its certifications available albeit spread across 2 releases. Weird!

I think the problem is, the users of those sites (us) care more about them in terms of accuracy and usability, than the companies do themselves. Therefore, it doesn’t bother them that they don’t work well.

BPI have changed their address to,

https://www.bpi.co.uk/page/certified-awards

You can now search for MUSIC DVDs for the first time.

The awards now go to 26X Platinum.

Can't see a list of the Brit Billion streams artists.

Don't like the pop-up list for artists - it is too long.

No album cover images or Artist pictures.

The displayed lists can be sorted on 9 different ways. Can be displayed as a grid or horizontal rows. Good improvement.

New address for BRIT Billion award.

https://www.brits.co.uk/brit-billion/

See the artists who have been awarded a BRIT Billion Award below, including Ed Sheeran, who became the first artist to receive a Gold version of the Award, celebrating 10 Billion UK streams

I dont like how on the new BPI site if an artist has collaborated with another artist for a song, you have to search separately or specifically for that duo or collaboration. The old site pulled up everything associated for the artist. Also, it seems to mostly only report the most recent (highest) certification for a song or album rather than every cert awarded like the old site did. I used to enjoy tracking the certification progress of songs or albums that way (ie how long it took to go from silver to gold or gold to platinum etc etc).

I think those 2004 dates relate to to when those older songs become available for downloading and hence BPI tracking.

You can get a complete list of certificates by clicking on the Artist's name. For example Beatles 1 album,

Certification history
04 May 2023 - 13x Platinum
17 September 2020 - 12x Platinum
24 March 2017 - 11x Platinum
21 July 2013 - 10x Platinum
10 July 2003 - 8x Platinum
05 January 2001 - 7x Platinum
14 December 2000 - 6x Platinum
08 December 2000 - 5x Platinum
01 December 2000 - 4x Platinum
24 November 2000 - 3x Platinum
17 November 2000 - 2x Platinum
17 November 2000 - Platinum
17 November 2000 - Gold

Historically, back in the days when BPI member companies were required to apply for BPI certification for their releases, a single or album's first certification was not necessarily silver. Record companies might wait until. for example, the platinum certification level had been reached.

It that situation the BPI would increment the number of certifications at all levels up to the level applied for, i.e. add one to the annual counts for silver, gold and platinum. But they would only list the highest award applied for, and there would not necessarily be an entry for the silver or gold levels for a release whose first requested certification was platinum. If they did create an entry for all three levels they would all have the same certification date.
