We are pleased to offer you the twelfth occurrence of The Best Song Contest In The World... Ever! For this challenge, we are looking for you to engage your vocabularies by seeking out single word song titles, and specifically, words identified as being nouns.

A noun is generally identified as being a word that represents a person, thing, concept, or place. Some examples of nouns can be found here;

https://www.grammarly.com/blog/parts-of-speech/nouns/

And if someone wants a random noun to be generated for them to attempt to search with, there is this website;

https://randomwordgenerator.com/noun.php

Please avoid sending "proper nouns" such as names, countries, companies or days & months.

For this contest, the word can only be used one time, so it's a first come first served usage, otherwise you will be asked to reconfirm. Once again, the song title can only be a single word in length and would be subject to the usual veto rules that moderators apply.

The song must have been released in the 20th Century and no later. You should avoid seeing any songs that charted in the United Kingdom during this time, and avoid sending something previously sent to this or any other song contest on BuzzJack.

Please send a private message to me, awardinary, with your chosen artist, song title and link to YouTube.

The deadline for entries will be Sunday 11th January 2026 at 23:59 GMT.

Did the top 4 of the last contest all pass on hosting? (Damn me being 2 points away from being able to host another one of these myself if so kink)

Intrigue for a very open theme anyhoo ~

I'm going to look through some of my favourite 80s and 90s material and hope I find some one word titles ☺️

Found a song by accident and it spoke to me!

I'll have to get my thinking cap on for this. @awardinary please feel free to send me a reminder if I haven't confirmed something by the weekend!

When you say "You should avoid seeing any songs that charted in the United Kingdom during this time", does this mean they could have charted in the 21st century? And by chart do we mean top 100?

Should be just top 40 exclusion and even that's harsh compared to BJSC.

It's no different to any other contests previously run in this series, but as ever, the retro moderators will have the final say.

We don’t specifically exclude top 40 songs - as a rule we definitely exclude top 10 hits and we’ll try to take a fair judgement on any others based upon whether it feels like something that is well known or not. For example, Summer of 69 could feasibly be okay for a contest if we just set a chart limit, where as realistically there are many 11-40 hits that the majority wouldn’t know.

I do think this particular theme should enable people to find something genuinely less well known though as it has such a wide scope of potential inclusions

So can you confirm that top 40 hits are OK to be sent, provided they're not well known?

(not that I've got anything in mind yet but just want to be clear on the rules before I start searching for a song, thanks)

Yes they can be attempted, I can’t promise we’ll definitely okay it - but we don’t tend to be too harsh unless we really feel that something would have an advantage
