  • Or maybe Bananarama's version leans in more to people's pop tastes rather than being to do with recency? A 40 year old song isn't really that much more recent compared to a 56 year old song!

Out of interest, do you think Live Forever should be counted as a 90s song (release), or a 2020s song (chart peak) where it has been placed in the chronological order of the finalists?

Just wondering as I’ve noticed a few people saying they think that it might win the poll?

It’s definitely not a 2020s song 😝

The Message is a great example of early hip-hop, their flow is infectious! Sweet Harmony is a solid track. Steal My Sunshine sounded great a few weeks ago when I was in the sun which probably helped me rank it highly! Can see why people might find it annoying though.

Ooft, my favourites taking a beating. The Message is a classic of hip hop with an iconic riff, it's a great contrast with how upbeat the song sounds and how dark the lyrics are and the ending paints a harrowing picture that it still very resonant.

From 1993, this was the only top 10 hit for the London group. One of the models in the video was a young Tess Daly.

Love Sweet Harmony a great song should be higher also the Music Video is very Special 😊

The Beloved track is a masterpiece. That melody is immortal.

Far too low. Far too low.

Sweet Harmony is such a classic, out way too early. The production is dreamy and then has the sax to round everything off perfectly. I was a huge fan of the Conscience era from them, there’s some lovely songs on the album

Three great songs in a row! 'Sweet Harmony' is definitely a dreamy classic, and 'Steal My Sunshine' is so much fun, the spoken parts are pretty cheesy but I love them! One of most perfect summer songs.

Oh no, 3 great songs out there. Especially The Message, one of the pillars of hip hop. Sweet Harmony is gorgeous and Steal My Sunshine is ….. sunshine in a song!

It may just be bias because it's the version I know better but I prefer the Bananarama version of 'Venus' and it's not particularly close - I honestly feel like it suits sounding like a cheap pop bop more than the more 'serious' sound of the Shocking Blue version.

Glad Kelly is out early, that's some real millennialcore slop x

Ooh I didn't realise I was the (joint) biggest fan of 'The Message'. Honestly I'm happy it made the final at all, as a hip-hop record! What a classic.

'Sweet Harmony' is wonderful as well.

37. Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You 990pts

Writers - Gerry Rafferty, Joe Egan

Top scores - vibe 43, Scone1 43, Leonardo 42

Low scores - Jason 3, marcinjaro 3, Jade 4

Average score - 23

This was one of three top 40 hits for the Scottish group. It was written about a music industry party they had attended. Gerry Rafferty sang lead vocals in the style of Bob Dylan but Joe Egan is miming them in this video as Gerry had already left the group.

Can’t hear this without thinking of the scene in ‘Reservoir Dogs’!

Great song

I’m sure I’m in the minority in thinking this is the best song on AM.

36. Sister Sledge - We Are Family 997pts

Writers - Bernard Edwards, Nile Rodgers

Top scores - danG 44, Scene 41, Yog1963 38, AaronTM 38

Low scores - rio309 5, chartjack2 5, Julian 6, CowTzy 6

Average score - 23.2

We Are Family was the first song that Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers had written for another act outside their own group, Chic. A remix reached number 33 in 1984 and then nine years after that, a second remix was more successful, getting as high as number 5.

Another three solid songs there, all very different but all classics in their respective genres!

Arctics one is really good but there's better songs on AM. Stuck In The Middle is a classic, echoing the Reservoir Dogs association being very strong for me! We Are Family is good but I'm annoyed You Make Me Feel didn't end up as the most popular disco track in the rate

Never knew Stealers Wheel were Scottish! First song to drop out that I'm quite sad about losing.

I can distinctly Steal My Sunshine from sheen it was released, it started taking off in the summer over here. Sadly though I’ve never really need a fan of it.
