Can't believe a new Ariana album will be out tomorrow!!

A snippet from Apple is doing the rounds where she describes the project as "...very experimental and different for me. I wrote from a place that I don’t usually, which was an unfiltered rage.” *.* sooooo ready

I was in the barbers when I seen this was announced and had to keep my need in to scream! I love the black and white image of her smile so if that’s the cover I’m happy (but we know how the fans get

How am I meant to go to sleep knowing its coming out when ill be sleeping is the struggle though

I’ve not been this excited for an album’s arrival since Raye, can’t wait to hear it after how HTIMYLM has become one of the songs of the year for me.

Just finished a relisten of her album discography in anticipation for tomorrow!

I'm so, so ready for new Ariana!!! And it being less than a month that I see her live again 🥲

Just over 5 hours to go!!

I’ve been in such a confessions ii era this whole month that I haven’t actually done a full discography listen with Ariana (I will before the tour) but I’ll probably play petal a LOT across this weekend!

It’s always exciting going into an album almost blind as well (I feel like Ariana’s last three albums now I’ve had this feeling what almost makes it more exciting). A new era is upon us!

Just had a quick first listen before work, I feel like I didn't really take in the lyrics too well as I was so distracted by the production throughout, so definitely need more time to sit with this properly now I know what to expect!

I appreciate the experimentation, either going further with sounds she's sat in before or completely surprising me, like with the 2-step garage production on a couple of songs, yes please! I know people were comparing the lead single to The Weeknd and I think his influence is felt elsewhere too, some songs reminded me of his sound pre-commercial breakthrough and 'bad thing (bunny hop)' is quite 'Blinding Lights'.

My initial holy trinity is: 'oh well', 'like i do' and 'nowhere, nobody' on first listen. As aforementioned, she pulled off the 2-step garage sound well for me (and I loved the vocoder effect in the closing track as well, not too unexpected when she's such an Imogen Heap stan) and 'like i do' really reminds me of the Ari I fell in love with around the time of 'God is a woman', sooo infectious.

Not sure where this sits in her catalogue yet but it's a dreamy soundscape for sure.

It’s too early to say for sure but my initial thought is that it’s going to be my favourite album of her 2020s albums. It feels very coherent as a projects and I just love the sound of the production.

I’ll give it a couple more listens before I start to decide on the standout tracks.

Gagged at kiss me immediately being one of her best songs. What an opener cheeseblock

Love the production throughout, so many gorgeous flourishes and I like how it’s a bit more experimental in places than you’d expect. I’m not sure where it’ll sit in her discography for me yet, eternal sunshine is my firm favourite at this point but I can see this being up there with my favourites.

I don't think this warrants a thread for now (I mean, serviced ≠ next [radio] single), but I basically explained this in a post on the Daily US Radio Airplay Updates thread.

Stay is not single material so I hope not like that would be three similiar songs as the singles when there's more different options

Love it! Only duds for me are Oh Well and Freak, everything else is an 8 or above. Quite a few 10s. So far ‘Like I Do’ is my standout.

EDIT: Okay hearing Oh Well hit this afternoon, don’t know what I was on last night. Still can’t get into Freak though the lyrics confuse me.

Seems nice enough on first listen but nothings jumping out just yet think its going to be one of those that takes a few listens to click

The title track has also been serviced to Pop radio in the US, but this has been given an impact date of August 4, so Republic is also fully promoting "petal" there.

So I’ve given this a couple of listens now and it is more varied (to me) than what some reviews state! It’s got that dreamy sort of soundscape throughout but there’s hints of garage and indie throughout what add kind of a British feel to it (if this makes sense).

Her voice as always and the melody's and moments in the background vocals and harmonies sound gorgeous (I kind of miss the belting slightly and would’ve loved a ballad but I do like what we have!).

Lyrically it’s quite deep (feral was used and I don’t know if I hear this yet but there’s different ways you can interpret what songs are about).

All in all I’d say I like it! kiss me and bad thing (bunny hop) are the two songs I’d say have the single potential as they’re the most mainstream!

I’m not quite sure yet where this will sit amongst the rest of her stellar discography yet (initially speaking I’d probably return to this more than positions though!)

Day 2 Ranking:

1 bad thing (bunny hop) (=)

2 like i do (=)

3 never get over me (+1)

4 hate that i made you love me (-1)

5 oh well (=)

6 kiss me (=)

7 stay (+3)

8 petal (-1)

9 nowhere, nobody (-1)

10. big feelings (-1)

11. warning signs (interlude) (=)

12. freak (=)

Eh I really enjoyed the Eternal Sunshine deluxe tracks and the new single so I was excited for this but this album doesn’t do much for me on first listen. They all just blend together, I’ve listened through about 3 times now and hardly remember anything
