So it seems as though the new BBC management were not aware that the victim was under 16 (but may have been aware that the investigation took place) and it was after they found this out they decided to sack him. Although it’s made very clear that the former Director General Tony Hall did not know anything. Sounds like the new management wanted a clean break rather than anything else.

Alleged victim, surely?? He wasn't charged at any point and the investigation was dropped. Saying victim assumes Scott Miles 100% PERPETRATED a crime, but we don't know that yet.

Scott Mills releases statement after BBC sacking as he ad...

The radio DJ thanked people who had reached out "with kindness" - adding that his departure from the BBC has led to "rumour and speculation".

Reminds me of what happened to my A Level music teacher. He had a consensual fling with a pupil around 2001 who decided some 15 years later that it had traumatised him, and it ruined the teacher’s career. I couldn’t help feeling sorry for the teacher in that scenario while still acknowledging that what he did was wrong.

Was it a) his own pupil and b) an underage one? I think a combination of the two will always be an absolute no no, regardless of whether it has been several years since the pupil had left.

Sorry don’t want to derail the thread as it turns out it was quite a different situation - yes it was a pupil but over the age of consent.

When stuff like this comes out seemingly from nowhere, I always think it's to cover up something more sinister or at the very least there's definitely more to what is being told in the news. I think if they brand it as a "historic" relationship then a lot of people will be more sympathetic towards Scott Mills because it was a long time ago. Ten years isn't actually that long and humans are creatures of habit, I highly doubt it was a one off, it's maybe the only instance they can actually take action on or they've been holding this back until the day they need to do some preemptive damage control. Also, the wording teenager is interesting... It was a child, just say that it was a child.

Appreciate that sometimes this is the start of sinister things coming out in the case with situations like this but I don't believe we have any information to substantiate whether it is at all, in the worst case, a visible moment of a pattern of behaviour that has continued with other unknown victims at varying points through Mills' life, or in the best case, an isolated untrue allegation against him from when he was a young adult.

That the police never followed up after the initial investigation 10 years ago suggests something towards the latter in my mind - the truth is likely somewhere in the middle, but the important thing right now is that we don't know and I wouldn't be pre-judging this in public with the amount that we do.

Oh of course, I do hope it's not as bad as it possibly could be but I guess I'm a bit of a cynic with things like this, I do tend to assume the worst but obviously that's just me, not that there's any additional info out that's lead me to believe that

I’d like to believe there’s nothing to it given how much I used to enjoy listening to Scott.

But regardless, the BBC to appear to have handled this poorly. A big announcement of his sacking without detail, vague comments on details found from other sources.

As a listener and someone annoyed that all Scott Mills content will never be released again (TOTP repeats I wanted to see) I feel like I’m owed the truth. I know that’s not an easy thing to come by in situations like this but everything they’ve done seems to point at something sinister.

Five shortlisted to take over are Gary Davies but bit too old, think they'll go a generation lower, Rylan, Vernon Kay, Amanda Holden, currently contracted to Heart breakfast, and Holly Willoughy but she hasn't. done much radio.

I'd do it for a fraction of the cost and with more of a focus on Eastenders and Hollyoaks!!!

Ugh no thanks to any of those. Cant they just get Sara Cox to do it?

Sara is covering in a couple of weeks (possibly to test the reception?)

She covered for Zoe Ball and was very good according to the Facebook group. Less daft than she is at tea-time.

Not saying that this is the case here but just noting as a counterpoint Ricky martin was accused of similar a few years back & it turned out to have been a false claim.

Whole case has been handled so messily... reminds me of how bungled the case of the lady who died falling in the river was.

Still think there was something suspicious there..
