Although it’s made very clear that the former Director General Tony Hall did not know anything. Sounds like the new management wanted a clean break rather than anything else.Alleged victim, surely?? He wasn't charged at any point and the investigation was dropped. Saying victim assumes Scott Miles 100% PERPETRATED a crime, but we don't know that yet.
April 1Apr 1 If there is really no more to it than a historic police investigation that was closed the sacking really makes no sense. Learning that the alleged victim was under 16 shouldn’t make a difference unless you’re doing away with the presumption of innocence.
April 1Apr 1 Sky NewsScott Mills releases statement after BBC sacking as he ad...The radio DJ thanked people who had reached out "with kindness" - adding that his departure from the BBC has led to "rumour and speculation".

He had a consensual fling with a pupil around 2001 who decided some 15 years later that it had traumatised him, and it ruined the teacher’s career. I couldn’t help feeling sorry for the teacher in that scenario while still acknowledging that what he did was wrong. Was it a) his own pupil and b) an underage one? I think a combination of the two will always be an absolute no no, regardless of whether it has been several years since the pupil had left.

April 2Apr 2 When stuff like this comes out seemingly from nowhere, I always think it's to cover up something more sinister or at the very least there's definitely more to what is being told in the news. I think if they brand it as a "historic" relationship then a lot of people will be more sympathetic towards Scott Mills because it was a long time ago. Ten years isn't actually that long and humans are creatures of habit, I highly doubt it was a one off, it's maybe the only instance they can actually take action on or they've been holding this back until the day they need to do some preemptive damage control. Also, the wording teenager is interesting... It was a child, just say that it was a child.

April 2Apr 2 I’d like to believe there’s nothing to it given how much I used to enjoy listening to Scott. But regardless, the BBC to appear to have handled this poorly. A big announcement of his sacking without detail, vague comments on details found from other sources. As a listener and someone annoyed that all Scott Mills content will never be released again (TOTP repeats I wanted to see) I feel like I’m owed the truth. I know that’s not an easy thing to come by in situations like this but everything they’ve done seems to point at something sinister.
April 3Apr 3 Five shortlisted to take over are Gary Davies but bit too old, think they'll go a generation lower, Rylan, Vernon Kay, Amanda Holden, currently contracted to Heart breakfast, and Holly Willoughy but she hasn't. done much radio.
April 3Apr 3 I'd do it for a fraction of the cost and with more of a focus on Eastenders and Hollyoaks!!!

April 4Apr 4 Not saying that this is the case here but just noting as a counterpoint Ricky martin was accused of similar a few years back & it turned out to have been a false claim.Whole case has been handled so messily... reminds me of how bungled the case of the lady who died falling in the river was.

April 8Apr 8 They've dropped his episode of Celebrity Bake Off. Perhaps inevitable, plus those are self contained episodes anyway.
April 8Apr 8 It's good to see that everyone is taking this seriously. It's a shame for Aston, Edith and Rag'n'Bone who'll never get to see their episode, though. I wonder if one of them will spill who won the episode, though.
April 8Apr 8 Taking what seriously though? Being coy about the ins and outs of what’s driving these decisions is hardly making the broadcasters look any better given the only solid information we have is a two-decade-old investigation that did not lead to anything. So it’s not like they can’t just come out and say why they’re doing what they’re doing, they’re choosing not to.
