Posted Wednesday at 18:543 days Just as with the Welsh elections, separate topic for the Scottish Parliament elections, also on Thursday. Here, the SNP have been governing with a power sharing agreement with the Scottish Greens, and polls suggest they, with their leader John Swinney, are set to likely continue according to the polls.Discuss the outcome of the vote and reactions, whether you live in or have a stake in Scotland or don't.
Wednesday at 21:503 days I am likely going to vote Green this time due to the best local policies, which are the only ones I particularly care about. While nominally a lib dem their policies this time are heavy on the wishy washy.
Thursday at 08:333 days How many votes do you get? Is there not a seperate voting slip to the main one in the proportional system?
Thursday at 09:033 days You get two „votes“ at Holyrood. You vote for a direct mandate for the constituency. Then you also vote on a regional list for a form of proportional representation. The parties encourage „both votes X“ but some indie parties only stand on the list and encourage usually an SNP Constituency, Us for the List approach. People voting for Greens on the first vote instead of split ticketing is how Ruth the mooth got her constituency seat 🤷🏼♂️
Friday at 12:262 days Strongholds of the Whigs/Liberals for over 200 years, the Lib Dems have won Orkney with 70% (!) of the constituency vote while potentially losing Shetland to the SNP. The islands are diverging. That 70% is, I believe, the highest constituency vote in any Scottish parliament election.
Friday at 13:322 days Winning Shetland is a shockLooks like the Greens will win a constituency seat in one of the major cities. Shouldn’t be a net negative for the SNP tho as it should allow a list seat in place. Would prefer not to have the greens f***ing about with vote splitting on the constituency vote before we get our freedom but we are where we are
Friday at 21:311 day North East Fife continuing to be such a Lib Dem stronghold is just silliness at this point.Heading for another SNP/Green coalition it seems.
Friday at 21:541 day Not sure how well known this site is; but the best visualisation I've found for how Scottish and Welsh seats have been allocated today under D'Hondt is here.
Friday at 22:531 day Fergus Ewing's defeat in Inverness and Nairn means there are just two MSPs left who have represented the same seats from 1999 through to the next term.Jackie Baillie has racked up her seventh win in Dumbarton, and John Swinney has maintained his streak in Perthshire North.Remarkably the first minister has triumphed over the same man every single time - Tory Murdo Fraser.
