Posted May 11May 11 Wonder if this actually deserves a topic. At first I figured the disease would be too deadly and would all blow over. But looks like this strain might actually be fairly transmissible and there are asymptomatic cases.Seems everyone is pinky promising to self isolate at this stage.
May 12May 12 The f*** did they let them off the boat for????? Like hello you cannot get better self isolation than that
May 12May 12 I was actually considering starting a topic on this myself.Seems very sus the authorities etc. are playing it down just like they initially did with Covid.
May 12May 12 From what I’ve read it’s nowhere near as transmissible as Covid, you need to have much closer contact.

May 12May 12 Author 50 minutes ago, Hadji said:So people need to stop panicking and fear mongering over lockdownsYou need a balance - right now there is nothing to worry about, but viruses exist to mutate. If they lose track of it, then the virus could become less lethal but more spreadable. Right now it seems you need to be in very close contact for a good amount of time, but symptoms can show like 40 days after exposure. So there's absolutely zero chance of any lockdown or guidance likely to be followed by the geenral public if it did become a pandemic. But I think a balance needs to be struck as they are telling us it's not very transmissable, Yet there's a lot of people who have caught it who were not in "close contact". Personally, the more I've read aboit it the more concerned I am and the messaging to this is erily similar to how covid started. Definitely not covid levels yet, but I think it certainly has the potential. The good news is it seems everyone is working together and they ahve some exisiting data, whereas with covid China were hiding a lot publicly.
May 13May 13 I wouldn't rule out the possibility of potential lockdowns in the future given how many people/organisations with governmental connections benefitted from them financially. I don't believe they were ever about protecting health especially given the politicians were partying every week. Whether they'd be adhered to this time around though is the bigger intrigue!I expect panic buying may be back in full effect soon if this whole thing remains in the news...
May 13May 13 I see they've released 22 people from a Liverpool hospital with the expectation that they'll all self-isolate for 42 DAYS! Yeah right, like people will willingly put their entire life on hold for a month and a half...
May 13May 13 The fact that there is more readily available information about this virus makes me a bit more hopeful but this planet (and especially the United States) does not have the world leaders needed to be able to combat this to the best of their ability. Best case scenario this ends up being another buzzword the same way swine flu, Ebola and Zika were back in their heyday. Worst case scenario we could be looking at an even bleaker version of 2020

The incubation period of 42 days is just not going to be followed and we’ve sent it all over the world. The one that’s concerning is the woman in France who left the cruise early.
May 13May 13 They should never have been allowed off the boat. Ludicrous situation.I would have locked the boat at sea until it was definitely burned out. We need to get tougher against this kind of thing as a society. When my great-grandmother had iirc scarlet fever in the early 20th century she and all others in the town afflicted were loaded onto a quarantine ship and floated out into the harbour and only allowed back when the disease was gone. Obviously unpleasant but in terms of life impacts to wider society this minimised the impact as much as possible.
