Not surprised at the sound of the winner, that K-pop Blackpink/Katseye adjacent high energy dance-pop-hip hop sound is popular at the moment.

  • Here's my take on the whole thing. In general, I am really pleased with the results. Not because my favourite won but because some of the results were unpredictable. Bulgaria winning is great. I did

  • Yassssss. Amazing score for Dara. Now is where I say I put a £10 bet on this this morning at 16/1 I wasn't going to bet this year but those odds were too inviting, and I figured betting money wasn't

ngl the entire top 10 is pretty caca with greek entry being the only song that appeared in my personal chart for me lol. the winner is easily my least favourite since stefania, or even the worst since i started following eurovision kink on the bright side at least we didn't have the country that came 2nd winning

Hoping that the campaigning will not get even more severe now given this is 2nd place twice in a row now. Let’s not give them any ideas x

The way that country rigging was not even close lol. I haven’t heard all the songs but Bangaranga and My System were my faves so I’m pleased that Dara won. As I’ve not been really following anything, I don’t know if it was but it feels mega random, but slay.

Even if Israel’s rigging failed, it’s going to keep happening and the EBU are siding with genocide. Even if we want to tout some bullshit about leaving politics out of a song contest to excuse a genocide, they’re clearly fixing it somehow and that should be enough but we’re having this conversation for the third year in a row and nothing will change, and my interest is completely gone even if the EBU do something about them atp, which they won’t. And if they come 2nd with this utter crock of rubbish and last year’s, once they send a vaguely competent song it will happen.

so people chose to torture themselves watching Israel finishing 2nd every year now, huh?

People acting surprised each time as well 😭😭

Well lets see what comes next year, didn't think Austria did nearly as good hosting as they did the last time everything just felt off in general and the presenters were generally awful especially the fella.

It is quite funny how Bulgaria tried so desperately hard to win for years in the late 10s then they’ve just accidentally stopped an Israel win with a random girlbop.

As much as I love Portugal's win, it would be nice to have another upbeat banger next year. Feeling like Bulgaria has a strong chance of gaining their first win in the next few years given their recent performances. Otherwise, maybe a long shot, but we are well overdue a contest in Reyjkavik and Iceland will surely come back with a blinder of a song to make it past the semis soon.

Called it nine(!) years ago!! And sort of predicted ‘Think About Things’ as well, had 2020 happened 😂

Genuinely overjoyed for Bulgaria tonight, they were my second favourite after Delta but I assumed they’d do a Norway 2019 and get destroyed by the jury - then as the jury votes came in and to my utter amazement they were doing really well in them, I had this horrible sinking feeling we’d have a Sam Ryder situation and the public vote gets in their way. What an incredible comeback for a country who at one point didn’t seem like they were ever returning, and at last we have an Eastern European Eurovision again so it’ll be cheap for once next time…right??

In general that was the best voting in years, a far cry from a year like 2024 where I slowly found myself falling asleep in my seat as Switzerland got 12 points over and over again - the points were super spread out and most of my faves did well, I genuinely jumped up in the air when Romania’s public vote came in as that was also one I adored tonight - felt very early-mid 00s Evanescence/Within Temptation at points! My only big misfire was Sweden not doing as well as I hoped, but I just adore that 00s dance sound and appreciate it’s not for everyone and let’s face it they need a break from hosting for a while.

As for the UK…Sam seems really lovely, and took everything with a great sense of humour, but wow, ‘trying too hard’ were the words I kept thinking when watching his performance. It had Dustin the Turkey vibes in that it looked like a comedy act/pisstake of an entry rather than something people might actually want to listen to and vote for, but I do massively respect it at least when our acts try something different rather than the late 2010s nadir years of just utter blandness you forget about seconds after they’re done, although Lucie Jones and SuRie at least tried their absolute best with the material. After Liverpool I feel like the UK have had their ‘turn’ for a generation now and I’m not expecting anything truly great from then at least the next decade, which I will happily apologise for if we do get a shock win at some point before I turn 50.

As for me, I watched it at home this year so as great as it is to see live, I don’t miss the scrum out and being squashed onto trams or trains at stupid o’clock getting back to a hotel. I really thought I was done with it all, but Sofia 2027 could coax me back into it if the prices are right…

Well I certainly didn’t for see that Bulgaria landslide although I did think tonight it really stood out more than it had in the semi. Very pleased for them! I did think it would be a strong televoter so felt it was looking very good for it as soon as it was acing the jury vote.

Pretty good Top 10 for the most part. Other than Israel obviously being much higher than the song deserved the one I really don’t get as ever is Italy. But Romania ended up being my favourite of all so nice to see that 3rd. I really enjoyed Greece and Moldova on the night so good to see them in there.

On another note - the UK's score ended up being very much an aside with the fears being at the top of the leaderboard but it is a real shame it didn't catch on across Europe. I think it shows just how hard it is to predict whether a song will do well - taking Austria as an example, I thought they ticked every possible box for being a smash and yet it only got 6 points. I suppose that's shown by how no countries consistently qualify unless they have other political situations or they're Sweden - and even Sweden finished surprisingly low this year for a song I thought could have contended for the win on first listen.

It was definitely one of the songs expected to get less than 10 points.

What a blessing Romania and Bulgaria returning was, both beating Israel in televote. Whoever persuaded them to come.back needs a bonus.

Happy Bulgaria pulled out in front and won over Israel (the song was shite anyway) What a bop.

Romanias a deserving 3rd place and Delta in 4th is still very pleasing. Really could've done without Italy being that high. The appeal of that was lost on me.

Surprised Sweden flopped so badly. Was a banger as well.

I've paid much less attention to Eurovision this year than usual for the obvious reasons and I didn't watch the semis (so the only songs I'd heard were the UK and Australia once each), wasn't sure if I'd watch the final either so decided to just leave it up to if my family put it on or not, and they did.

'Bangaranga' was my 3rd favourite song on first impressions so very happy with it pulling off a surprise landslide, well done Bulgaria for a first win - my favourite winner since 'Stefania'. (Lol at this being the exact opposite of uhsting's post x)

The Israel song was by far the worst one in the final even putting aside any politics (will note that I did not rank them last last year, merely 2nd last x). At least their hold over the televote is gradually decreasing - in fact the juries actually caused them to finish one place higher than they did on the televote lol (I was thinking their nefarious calculation this year was that singing in French would make the juries give them high points and it looked for a hot minute like that might actually work :')) - but it's still clear that as long as they're being allowed to enter they're always going to have a good chance of winning for the foreseeable future.

Overall the quality was kinda mid at least on first impressions of the finalists. My top 2 were Croatia and Serbia and I think both of those could grow on me more with further listens but I can't say I'm loving them as much as I usually love my favourites. The UK were also in my top 5 along with Romania but I wasn't surprised at it being another public zero, thank you Ukraine jury for saving us from doing the double 0 a second time xo

I'll relisten to the studio versions and check out the DNQs to make an updated final ranking at some point, probably x

I did an analysis for the points. If the points for public and jury are going to be ranked each, Australia would have been 3rd. image.png

Amazing, Bulgaria was my fave but I never imagined it winning! I agree that it was probably the weakest contest since I started watching (during the performances I did question why I didn't just quit watching this year, oops!), but it got stronger toward the end so I have a solid enough top 10.

'Eclipse' is quite possibly the best performance I've ever seen in my life! I honestly didn't like the song but Delta performed it so incredibly well that it's still my second favorite entry this year cheeseblock

My ranking for posterity:

01 Bulgaria: Dara - Bangaranga

02 Australia: Delta Goodrem - Eclipse

03 Croatia: LELEK - Andromeda

04 Moldova: Satoshi - Viva, Moldova!

15 Ukraine: Leléka - Ridnym

16 Germany: Sarah Engels - Fire

17 Austria: COSMÓ - TANZSCHEIN

18 Belguim: Essyla - Dancing On The Ice

Was over watching it at a friends, with substantial more disparaging comments aimed at the contest and/or the inevitability of the voting being a rigged mess than most years.

Sorta relieved Bulgaria won, it's their first winner after a lot of very good entries, they did a good performance and that televote landslide came out of nowhere. It was only an okay song though, as nice as it is to see a different genre winning, I don't quite understand the huge landslide it got. Also this does just delay the inevitable of this happening every damn year as it should be obvious to anyone with ears and eyes that yet again, Israel's performance in the contest is not reflective of its abilities as a song or performance, a forgettable mid effort forgotten by most of the audience minutes after it finished.

anyway congratulations Romania on your second place! That was the best performance of the night for me - though Finland, Serbia and yes the UK were close behind. Finland had such brilliant drama, Serbia was incredible metal, Romania everything good you could want in a rock performance at once and that connecting with the public was the one bright spot in the results. I was honestly left in awe at how good the UK's performance was, captivating, much better than the semi and just a lot of fun, far more fun for me than other upbeat fun offerings like Moldova or Greece - televote nul was completely undeserved.

jury votes were utter rubbish too, seeing Malta, Italy, Poland as well as Israel of course so high was very bizarre and unwarranted.

FFS so my personal fave Estonia would have qualified over Sweden and Belgium (Comfortably) on a public vote! This is why you need competent singers….

That poor Swiss lesbian finishing 9th in both votes but 11th overall. :(

Also, apparently a 3rd + an 8th gives you 2nd overall. Even if the country in question wasn’t a genocidal tyrant, it still would be ridiculous deadbanana

Juries need to get their shit together. I don’t remember them being so biased and predictable in years. For example, Greece <-> Cyprus and Croatia <-> Serbia was insane.
