I don’t understand this? Radio 1 played Crush and Midnight Sun last year (before Zara got massive again). Admittedly they were only on the C List but neither of those sound like tracks that R2 would play. I don’t think Radio 1 are only supporting her now because Lush Life and Midnight Sun went massive on TikTok

She was taking off on TikTok in 2024 because Symphony went mega viral on their because of the dolphins meme.

She incorporated that Dolphin meme aesthetic into her branding (her Y2K makeup and clothing etc), to the point where it’s arguably the first time she’s ever had a recognisable visual style (see the ‘midnight sun’ box in the stateside video and PinkPantheress easily adapting a Zara-esque look for the video too). and perhaps more importantly, the entire midnight sun music video is completely ensued with that dolphin meme aesthetic.

Zara was smart enough to adapt the dolphin meme to the point where the dolphin emoji is now associated purely with her and her fanbase on social media, similar to Bee’s with Beyonce or Owl’s with Drake.

  • Yes those comparisons are valid, it's just that your comment made no sense to me in the context of this thread!

  • After 'Dead Club City' gave them their first number 1 album, I can see extensive support for Nothing But Thieves from R1 this time around. Really hope 'Evolution' can go to A-List tbh. It's incredible

They were absolutely huge at this point!

And of course Rendez-Vu would eventually be A-listed

The playlist is decided on a Tuesday and she only pulled out last night so they wouldn't have known to remove her, she hasn't been played at all today though.

Danni just gave it a play today, so they are still down to support it

And yet only Nice To Each Other, those Ellie Goulding tunes, Happier and Blessings were playlisted by Capital. Sadly only Blessings remains unless they get it together and add Olivia today

But what's that got to do with this thread?

Absolutely nothing

I know you think Radio 1 and those other stations have nothing to do with Capital - but it does have tons of Capital references (songs appearing on both Capital/other radio stations, heck even Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby as former Radio 1 & Heart presenters now presenting Capital Breakfast) yet somehow they have a smaller number of songs than Radio 1

cos they don't??? and quite frankly none of us care about capital when we aren’t talking about it. We don’t need you shoving it down our throats thinking we’ll forget about it or something because it’s that important to you? it’s such a boring station anyways and hits radio does what capital wants to do 5 billion times better. Save it.

Greg is the only one to have confirmed his Tune of the Week on air as Olivia Rodrigo - the cure. I'll check again tomorrow to see if the others announce theirs.

There’s no need to be rude - I think Sami got the idea

not rude, blunt. When someone’s given numerous chances, you have to go that road

The problem is he wont of got the idea and will do exactly the same in a day or 3 😅

I’m sure it’ll be A-listed at some point. But I’d be pleasantly surprised to see it higher than the C-list when the playlist goes back to normal on Friday.

Omg forgotten classic wub

But once again, what a stellar collection of songs across all three playlists!! (and also Melanie G kink)

I have no memory of the Trippa song at all! Sounds good from the live performance. I didn't know the song by Laptop either, apparently that did sneak into the top 75.

Gosh, 21st Century Girls made it to Radio 1, they were so hyped and just completely bombed.

Soul Surfing wasn't a single but curiously was licensed to a couple of compilations that summer. I bought the first one at the time so recognise the track (as didn't own the Fatboy Slim album).

Yeah doesn't look like any of the other shows has a TOTW this week
