The concept of non-#1s pretty much died at the end of the download era - there are so few #1s now and songs usually need 5 million+ streams just to get there for a week - not something that can be achieved by fanbase alone.

well I’d argue we’ve had quite a few non number ones this year in the sense that Man I Need should’ve been number one in their place

Harry's two #1s and 'drop dead' would have been #1 regardless of ACR, as would 'stupid song' had it not been for Taylor's CDs.

Are playlists really the only reason the song is at #6 and would also be out of the Top 200 without them? If that’s the case then the streaming charts are even more contrived than I realised

Huge differences in market share / number of listeners - Apple Music has 15-23% of the UK market while Spotify has 47-55%, potentially ‘easier’ for a promoted song to appear higher on Apple with a smaller user base?

Also guessing demographics are different between Spotify and AM - a lot of AM users get free premium with their mobile contracts.
