Watched the first one tonight now! Three more to go haha

As expected I liked it. It was actually my 100th entry for this year on Letterboxd 😯

  • I've never seen any of the Toy Story movies 🫠 Planning to go see this one with Sabrewulf though, maybe next week if it's still on.

Yeah but you could argue with a plank of wood. 🤭

Is this why we are friends 😜

I love how I'm just updating this thread with my first watches of these movies lmao but I decided to watch the 2nd one this afternoon already and... I don't know if I was less in the mindset or something but compared to 1 and 5, for me it was quite a bit less interesting and engaging, woop. I still really appreciate the immense creativity and imagination, and the few laughs I had, but for a movie that's a standard 90 minutes or so, I felt like it dragged on a bit kink Overall I still appreciated it though and rated it 3 stars (almost got 3 and a half). 1 and 5 both got 4 stars.

I think maybe at a younger age I would've enjoyed 2 a bit more too.

Most people seem to prefer TS2 over TS1 I feel, the first one is definitely my favourite of the lot though!

I recently rewatched them all, and only TS4 got less than 5★ from me... I reckon nostalgia definitely plays a big part in how much we love these films compared to the comparatively low ratings you're giving on first watch!

(Though a quick look at the letterboxd ratings of both and I can see that the consensus is actually correct, people I know must just be wrong x)

1 and 3 are my favourites, 2 is still great but not quite as good as those either side of it

4 was okay but a big step down for me.

Kinda wish I would've watched these when younger but I wasn't (as) much of a movie watcher back then - creating my Letterboxd account in 2020 was what spurred me on to watch more.

Particularly I remember as a kid, teenager and for some of my 20s, I was sometimes so impatient and lackluster with movies that unless I happened to really enjoy that particular movie (was in the right mindset, etc), I would tune out really easily (still happens occasionally but overall it's much better) and I'd kinda be the person asking 'who's this person?', 'what does she have to do with this?', 'where did he go?' lol It took MUCH more than now for me to sit down and watch a movie, and I actually used to get kinda anxious when people suggested to watch a movie with me 🫠

  • 2 weeks later...

Another update, hehe

I watched all five of them within a week or so, and I'm glad I did, I enjoyed the trip. Overall (and based on just one watch obviously), I think 3 was my favourite and 4 was my least favourite.

^^

That is a correct first and last place order! 🙌🏻 1 is good but 3 has more emotional impact for me.

The incinerator scene, for anyone that grew up with these toys, was heartbreaking.

I think I still prefer 1 and 2, not sure if I prefer 3 or 5... And yes, 4 is a definitely last place (by quite some way because the others are all 5★ films!)

I watched them all in a week too, though I know 1 and 2 quite well from my childhood and just never got round to seeing 3 and 4! I adored 3 though and think it may be my favourite. What actually got me crying was the final scene of Andy giving the toys to Bonnie, that really touched me, so beautifully done. I liked 4 but it's the weakest of them all, and I'm still not sure how I feel about Woody becoming a "lost" toy. 5 was a bit better than 4, watched it in the cinema last week, I did like the overall storyline and the focus on Jessie.
