tbf I'm more surprised she got a day-one album bomb in the first place given she's always been more of a cult-following/critical darling artist - The Governor's Waltz re-entering today makes me hope she might get at least one charting hit this week.

Good to see The Weeknd getting a boost, although it's saddening to see so many artists choosing a Wembley residence over a couple of dates elsewhere in the UK. No wonder so many small venues are closing if playing stadiums and arenas in even places like Manchester are too much trouble or not sufficiently viable.

Yeah such a shame the weeknd, harry styles, bruno mars and now ariana grande is there a reason a lot of artists have gone for London residencies this year 😮

Maybe the Oasis manchester one is actually a good thing 😬😬😬

I think it's much easier for the artists and labels to do residencies. Less travelling involved/less taxing on the artist and cheaper as you don't need to move large amounts of equipment as much. London is the best connected city in the UK (and the world generally) too. Although hopefully with Manchester's Co-op Live arena we'll see more artists doing residencies there in future.

I get where your coming from , but it just shoves all those extra costs on to the fans , either public transport or driving and parking , hotels etc etc its basically unfair on anyone that doesn't live in London 😪

Ticket prices are already rocketing as it is 😪

I really am not sure a trend of "residencies" is a good thing at all, I think a monster has been unleashed.

I understand it if you are doing back to back shows to keep it in one location but when it's more spread out its like why?

Like Olivia Rodrigo for example. She's doing back to back shows in London during April but then end of May she comes back to the UK and decides to have the concert in London again. Thats when it doesn't make sense to me and just looks like the artist is just trying to chase a record number of nights there which is giving no thought whatsoever to the fans

Oh 100%. But labels don't care as long as they make their money and for some artists it's either a residency or they won't tour at all such as Kelly Clarkson - although understandable given Kelly has children. Similar thing with Adele doing Las Vegas residency to work her life around her son with her Munich residency taking place during the US school holidays.
