Phoebe Bridgers holds the weight of the world in a voice that sounds almost weightless as she spins hushed, haunting indie folk and pop lullabies for the disenchanted. The L.A.-based singer-songwriter (born in 1994 in Pasadena) gravitated toward music at a young age, picking up the guitar at around 12 and discovering Elliott Smith—one of her biggest idols—at 13. She attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, busked at the Pasadena Farmers Market, and found comfort onstage playing solo open-mic nights—as well as bass for punk band Sloppy Jane. By the time she reached her twenties, Bridgers had settled into her career, releasing her 2014 acoustic debut EP, Killer, before dropping some of indie music’s most devastating songs at a rapid pace ever since. Her 2017 debut album, Stranger in the Alps, came as a soft, cathartic blow to the collective gut, highlighted by the fragile confession “Funeral” and bitter take-down “Motion Sickness.” On 2020’s Punisher, her sound is lusher, suppler, and laden with strings; her tone deadpan and death-obsessed, angelic and apocalyptic—often all at once. Her music may be heavy in introspection, but Bridgers thrives in collaborative settings, too. She’s a champion of her peers—founding indie label Saddest Factory Records—and has made some of her most striking work with a few of her favourite artists, including Conor Oberst for 2019’s hard-hitting Better Oblivion Community Center, SZA for 2022’s haunting “Ghost in the Machine”, and Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker in powerhouse trio boygenius. - Apple Music

I don't get the hype for this!

Phoebe song is a bit depressing.

I don't love Phoebe's vocal style really but I'm finding it more tolerable on this than Lost Boys. The production shake-up is quite cool x

Biography

The Killers dropped English synth-pop down into their glitzy, scuzzy Las Vegas world, and a familiar sound became brand new. The group launched in 2001, when frontman Brandon Flowers—then working in casinos—answered a advert from guitarist Dave Keuning; they wrote their breakout single, “Mr. Brightside”, at their first meeting. Rounded out by drummer Ronnie Vannucci and bassist Mark Stoermer, they rose to popularity with 2004’s glammy, post-punk Hot Fuss, its single "Somebody Told Me" a cheeky summary of a million conversations in the clubs. While initially seeming like a flashier counterpart to the dourness of The Strokes and Interpol, The Killers traded synthesisers for more guitars in the early 2000s, introducing a new sound akin to U2 and Springsteen on albums like 2006’s Sam’s Town and 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful. They do believe in love and rock, but they seem to feel a little sheepish about it as they get ready to go out. They returned in 2020 with their sixth album, Imploding the Mirage, and the Lindsey Buckingham-assisted single “Caution”. The song serves as both a return to roots and a mission statement for their future, as Flowers told Apple Music that it reminded The Killers of a universal truth: "Rock 'n' roll can be transcendent.” - Apple Music

welsh act Gorky's Zygotic Mynci had 8 hits between 41 and 75 but never made the top 40.

They had singles peak at 41 and 42.

When it comes to growing up in public, the King of Pop wrote the book. Born in Gary, Indiana, in 1958, Michael Jackson became the biggest-selling singer on the planet, but when he started his career, he was just a kid trying to catch up with his big brothers. The Jackson 5, which Michael joined in 1964 when he was just six, became a Motown hit machine in 1970. But Michael’s undeniable vocal charisma made a solo career inevitable—and his began in 1971. After a few major early hits, he exploded with 1979’s Off the Wall, a funk-pop-disco marvel that marked Jackson’s full musical maturation. Its 1982 follow-up, Thriller, became an international phenomenon with mega-singles including “Billie Jean”, “Beat It” and the unmistakable title track. “I try not to overthink songs,” Zara Larsson told Apple Music in 2019. Instead, the Swedish singer feels most on point when she’s able to “just feel it.” Larsson’s ability to convey that mix of youthful confidence and emotional intensity helped make her one of Europe’s biggest stars while she was still in her teens. Born in 1997 in a suburb of Stockholm, Larsson first found fame in Sweden when her performance of Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” clinched her victory on a TV talent show at the age of 10. Simultaneously, a viral video combining the kitschy, colourful aesthetics of artist and designer Lisa Frank with audio from “Symphony”—her 2017 team-up with Clean Bandit—triggered a new surge in popularity. Larsson capitalised on the attention, dressing up the maximalist electropop of her 2025 album Midnight Sun in a tropical twist on that same distinct visual style, closing out the year with performances across the US and Europe. Larsson’s instincts continued to serve her well into 2026, kicking the year off at the top of the global charts as the featured artist on “Stateside” by PinkPantheress, taken from the UK star’s remix album Fancy Some More?.
