Oh that's quite a nasty surprise </3 I didn't see that coming given she was still fairly active musically recently.

RIP, obviously a legend of country music and such a great personality too.

Queen, icon and legend, and for all the right reasons. Incomparable and irreplaceable. Rest in eternal power Dolly ❤️

Absolutely gutted.

Not just because she was a fantastic musician, but was genuinely one of the best people we've had the pleasure of being alive at the same time as. A real, real loss for music, for charity and for humankind.

This is really sad, as stated above by many she wasn't just an icon in the music industry for her songwriting and contributions to country music, but she was also a truly kind person. Her charity set up to give children free books is something that isn't known enough as it is truly such a gorgeous selfless thing to do. I've never heard anyone famous or non-famous have anything negative to say about her, and that is truly rare for a celebrity to achieve and a testament to what a wonderful person she clearly was.

RIP Dolly your star will always shine bright. 🌟

Well said, her documentary is a must watch too.

Dolly really did seem universally popular across races, ages, genders etc. just one of those figures in entertainment where you seen something / someone genuine. ❣️

This is such sad news, I know she was 80 but it was still relatively unexpected, you just assume the good ones will be around forever or at least until they're 100. Even if you're not a dedicated lifelong fan, i think she still touched the lives of so many in someway, she was such a light and had such a warm energy, not to mention her undeniable talent. She's definitely left one hell of a legacy behind.

RIP Dolly 🪽

My favourite Dolly quote has to be “It cost me a lot of money to look this cheap”.

Another "how long does it take to do your hair?" "I don't know I wasn't there"

Trump orders all US flags to be lowered for a week. This is extremely rare. The last time that happened was in 1965, when President Lyndon Baines Johnson ordered the flags lowered following the death of Winston Churchill.

Trump designated four days of mourning after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in 2025. Pope John Paul II, Neil Armstrong , Rosa Parks, Billy Graham and Nelson Mandela also received a day or more of recognitions.

Flags fly half-staff for current and former presidents for 30 days. Sitting vice presidents, current and former Supreme Court chief justices and the speaker of the House of Representatives each receive a 10-day observation.
