'You Never Come Closer' is from a Swedish album from 1970! The second song with psychedelic influences from 1970 that I've sent to a song contest haha - the first of course being Linda Perhacs - Parallelograms in BJSC 179.

The entire Doris album is fun actually, but there's different styles on it and there isn't really anything else quite like 'You Never Come Closer' on it. Similarly to Linda Perhacs, the album received more attention after it was re-released in 1996.

Doris passed away in 2023.

Giving my 12 to one of the only couple of artists I was already somewhat familiar with feels like a bit of a copout but the song is new to me and is also fantastic and quite easily the best here so hey ho! The top 6 are my biggest standouts here - a few great older songs among those, and even some actual emo x - but really liking all of the songs I've voted for here. Commiserations to 1000 Rabbits, A Place To Bury Strangers, Boyish, Negiton (the Japanese one), Young Lovers and why not Bobby Funk as well who I'd also have liked to throw a point or two. Some of y'all are being too mean, this was a good contest. x

My entry this time is just another find from one of /r/indieheads' New Music Friday posts. I see a post-punk tag, I must investigate. Of course. I was torn for a while between 'Fragments' and another song from the same album, the more slow-burning 'Reverie':

Ultimately decided to go with the shorter punchier song and I think I made the right call there. Hope you all enjoyed. x (I was able to sneak on to hear it and snoop on the comments at the listenthrough despite napping through most of it, thanks random.org drawing me right at the end hehe)

Congrats Jim, an absolutely emphatic victory with an epic song. I’ve liked stuff by The Joy Formidable before, but I hadn’t heard this one, that was a great find.

27th is nothing earth shattering for Sheer Mag but I accept that throwback 70s influenced rock is not exactly boundary pushing, so not too disappointed.
