Fun fact: I actually tried sending it on Nuggets this year and it was not allowed for not being guitar-based enough. Not quite sure why or how. 😆 This one and Lord Fascinator & Spiral Drive 'Auto' could've been swapped in where they were entered.

Observations:

• pavi, King Rollo and dhwe finished in the same position as they were in the song list - for pavi it was 7th, for King Rollo it was 12th, and for dhwe it was 21st

• I, matto, had the highest-placing song (15th) that wasn't in anybody's top 3. I also came 15th with 15 voters

• Chez Wombat had the most 20s at 7 and the most 15s at 5. Wardy (5th place) had the most 12s at 5

• J00prstar came second last but received two 12s

• DaTilt had the lowest-placing song (32nd) to receive a 20

• NocheLuna had the lowest-placing song (30th) to receive a 15, and it also received a 12

• CowTzy had the lowest-placing song (26th) to receive two 20s

• While Chez Wombat received seven 20s and Jade received six 20s, nobody received five or four 20s. The next-highest number of 20s was blacksquare, who received three 20s

Wow, Thank you all so much! I couldn't quite believe the landslide winner predictions until I saw it, especially with my luck in contests, I'm so glad it stood out to everyone else as much as it did me. I'll certainly be checking out their album when it comes out tomorrow just on the basis of this, crazy to think that this was a last minute switch out based on a song I heard by chance that morning!

The indie contests have always been ones I've never been able to crack despite having many top 10s in both, so it's great to finally get a win in one after fourteen (!) years of taking part in UP. Certainly makes up for the near miss in BJSC recently x

A fantastic top 10 as well, I can't ask for much better than myself and my 20 in the top 2 and I voted for a further seven of those songs and a few just outside. Senegal definitely deserved a bit better though, that was a similarly intense, standout listen.

I agree. 'Tears Won't Tell' could've easily won in other editions. The PISS song was very powerful of course though and my 7 points to it even seems a little too low now haha.

Thank you also to @blacksquare for sending me the new templates that I was able to use for this contest. It was actually quite enjoyable using it and inputting all the votes, and it telling me everything is ok / complete haha.

Not bad tally for City Lights in the end. I imagined an act like Gumshoes being a tough sell on here, but UP feels like the appropriate contest for this very homespun indie pop project, and this particular track has lingered to become a surprise SOTY contender for me (who'd have guessed a song about an Elvis impersonator would end up resonating that much?). Looking forward to the new album in January king x

Lol I reverted to form and was sleeping through part 3 of the results as well. At least I was here for the longest part x

Most of my main faves had already been unveiled at the time I last commented but since then: a pretty good Grimes-alike from Cody, Harve's song very nearly snatched my 1 point after being a big grower on second listen, good pick from Wardy though I had already heard it (nice to see Twin Tribes with another song contest appearance anyway), dhwe bringing another noisy banger (dare I say again it's better than Bleary Eyed although perhaps not as good as Eldritch Anisette x), really enjoyed the mix of math rock and hardcore from Whoddy's entry so quite sad to see it doing so poorly, and a lovely debut song contest entry from maggotsforbrains which also only just missed out for me (hope to see you entering other contests in the future as well).

The PISS landslide coming to fruition as expected - amazing that it not only got the most high scores but also just the most votes in total, snuck into the low end of votes from a few people who I'd have expected it not to appeal much to. It in some ways felt like it was playing a different game to all the other songs as indeed it's rare that we get a song with such visceral emotions in any of the song contests but I'm really glad that you shared it as it is a fantastic piece of art, very well deserved first win here Chez <3 (I continue to wait for my first x). And with otay:onii also delivering on the hype the top 2 are the 2 best songs here (I had them ranked the other way around but they feel like joint 20s for me) so well done Jade as well and well done for you all collectively displaying impeccable taste ❤️ My whole top 3 finished in the top 4, I would have been a lot less confident in Maria & The Mirrors doing this well than the other 2 but we absolutely love to see that as well! And also gave medium high points to Twin Tribes in 5th, and lene 3000 had been my 1 pointer after my initial listen although fell behind a few other songs after my relisten, still making for a very strong top 5 overall.

2 more that I voted for in the top 10 as well (Cocanha and CLARAGUILAR) and a few more just missing out. Total Wife was the only one of my major faves that finished a bit lower down the scoreboard but 21st still feels respectable for that. I did vote for 2 of the bottom 5 though - as above really disappointing that Love Rarely came last and also sad that grad_u was the lowest finishing of the electronic entries.

'Senegal' ends my recent run of consistent good song contest results but I knew it would as it's certainly less accessible than my other recent offerings so it's all good, I still think it was worthwhile sharing it (if anyone wants to pinch 'All Hail' to send to another contest and hopefully get a better result be my guest x). Didn't quite make anyone's podium but 11 votes is probably more than I'd have expected and yay for not being bottom 5! Thanks to @Severin and @disguhsting for the 10s (not surprised to see the former being its joint biggest fan), @The Addyms Family and @seven. for 8s, @Jadaver for a 6, @maggotsforbrains for a 5 (I accept this as penance for your wrong take on that Beyoncé song, your taste is still mostly on good track x), @vampavi for the 4 and @Chez VampireBat, @nine¾, @Pting Rollo and @WhoOdyssey for a smattering of 2s. Almost got only even numbered points
