2007 has had a few comebacks for a few artists, Kylie, James Blunt, Britney Spears, but unfortunately performing badly, on the other hand Girls Aloud and Sugababes seem to be on top of their game in 2007 having successful hits with Leona Lewis ending the 2007 on a high note. Follow up albums for Kaiser Chiefs, KT Tunstall, James Blunt and others have suffered badly this year.

The physical single market seems to be struggling, downloads seem to be making the chart stable and acts are staying longer at #1, 2007 has been good year for Rihanna spending 10 weeks at No.1. Mika had the best selling single of the year, and spending 5 weeks at #1 at the start of the year, unfortunately he has lost his crown to Leona Lewis for the time being, will the X Factor winner surpass her sales only time will tell.

2007 has also had the biggest single turkies at No.1 from Sean Kingston, The Proclaimers and Kaiser Chiefs.

What are your high points and low points on chart music of 2007, time to reflect and have a whinge on this year's chart music.

My biggest winners of 2007 goes to Maximo Park & Amy Winehouse

My biggest loser of 2007 goes to Sean Kingston

Real Girl (Album) Scraping top 10 then disappearing with less than 100k sales

c**p sales of Change (Album)

Song 4 Mutya not getting the position it deserved

High Points

Some great new Indie and Dance acts out this year, with some ones like Maximo Park and The Cribs realy standing out. Other high points include the sucsess of new acts in the chart (Jack Penate, Milburn).

Low Points

Some of the big acts this year (Kaiser Chiefs, Sophie Ellis-Bextor) not doing very well with their follow-up album. Also the decline of sales (Albums & Singles) making it harder for new acts to get in the chart.

High Points - Chasing cars spending forever in the charts.

Low Points - Lame songs spending ages on the number 1 spot like Umbrella and Leona Lewis. Another low point will probably be this Christmas when the Xfactor winner takes over Christmas number 1 -_-

High Points:

Some good old RnB this year : Rihanna/Timbaland

Low Points:

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love. It's an amazing song, BUT it should never of been as big as it is. She's peaked far to early, she might struggle a bit with the second album.

HIGHS: Leona Lewis' and Amy Winehouse's success.

LOWS: The charts are way too slow :drama: Some people may say this is better but I miss the exciting times of the early 00s  Joss didn't do as well in the UK with her new album.

High's

Mika - Grace Kelly

MCR - teenagers

Leona - bleeding love

Rihanna No.1 for 10 weeks actually anything of rihannas

Rubbish in the top 10 and goods failing

I don't think Kaisers album failed at all?

2007 has been the year of $h!t album sales for some reason - the comebacks have underperformed massively - KT Tunstall, Natasha Bedingfield are just two that spring to mind.

I'm pleased that Mika has had a lot of success even if the single choices in between GK + MHE were $h!t. MCR + Fall Out Boy + FFAF and Paramore got some slight recognition.

Avril scoring a 3rd #1 album and also two of her biggest hits in the UK to date.

Sugababes proving they don't need Mutya by producing a fabulous album.

Lows

#1s from Kuntay West and Fatass Kingston

Any RNB/Hip-Hop dross in the chart

Declinehouse taking up residency in both charts for months on end :/

No one can deny that Rihanna had a huge ammount of success this year. This was HER year imo. Umbrella was a HUGE hit, Don't Stop the Music is also extremely huge outside of the UK and the US. HTILY and SUAD have also done very well. Sugababes, Girls Aloud, and Amy Winehouse doing very well for themselves also.

I wouldn't be quick to call 2007's high point Leona yet. I have a feeling she's gonna be huge in 2008.

Highs - well, if it's on a chart basis then the only thing that has excited me has been the re-appearance of old songs in bizarre circumstances through ad campaigns etc if only for a short while. It has made the chart slightly more exciting rather than the predictable bore it became in light of protracted PR campaigns, mass-media saturation and the criteria for being a pop star shifting to being 'famous through talent shows' and then releasing a $h!te cover version.

The awful commercial dance music so endemic in the late 90s / early 00s is still largely ignored.

Kaiser Chiefs recording the only genuinely good number one single of the year...even if the rest of their album was utter garbage.

Reformations - Carter USM, Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine

Lows - The dilution of guitar music programming - shows claiming to be 'indie' featured nothing but pop acts and copycats of bands who showed some originality in previous years - i.e Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party (and each of they were recycling punk / new wave)

Oasis are still $h!t

Leona Lewis proving me wrong - although nothing to do with her perceived talent, just that the public surprised me by sticking with her.

Reformations - The Spice Girls, The Verve

The download rules; the slowed down chart is great. This is basically a repeat of what I've been saying in the midweek thread, but it seems to be a lot more difficult for any old track to make number 1 nowadays, there have been few one week wonders, and those that have made it tend to be genuinely massively popular tracks which stick around for a while. Whilst some are complaining, I actually like seeing some of those massively long chart runs, you can see a song's going to be a classic when it spends a whole year on the chart. The likes of Chasing Cars and Rehab won't be forgotten for a long time as opposed to the majority of top 10 singles from the past few years.

People say that makes it too slow and boring, but I disagree. It allows for a lot more oddities, and bizarre chart runs; "In The Air Tonight "becoming one of the year's long-runners for example.

Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right" doing so well on downloads only, and restoring my faith in her after the dire Promiscuous.

The R'n'B singers beginning to stretch out; the Freemasons remixes have done wonders for Beyonce. Also Rihanna surprising everyone and showing she's not just another generic R'n'B warbler. I hated her when she started out; "Pon De Replay", "We Ride", "If It's Lovin That You Want"...DIRE. But to my complete surprise, she's probably been the most consistently good singles artist this year. "Shut Up And Drive" is a FABULOUS pop song. Even "I Hate That I Love You" is listenable, even though R'n'B ballads generally tend to be plodding and dull.

Surprise comebacks; who'd have thought Robyn of all people would have a No1? And a truly excellent one at that, easily the best #1 of the year.

The X-Factor guys finally realising they need to put EFFORT into their artists; it's been nice to see they allowed Leona to spend some time making an album tailored to her voice, rather than just rushing out ballad cover after ballad cover.

Artists being proved WRONG in their assumptions that they could record any old tosh and sell on their name alone (Joss Stone, Maroon 5, Natasha Bedingfield, James Blunt, Kaiser Chiefs, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez). I'd even add KT Tunstall to that list, I liked her first album, but Hold On sounded like a B-side from 2005.

Arcade Fire being appreciated by the mainstream and grabbing a #2 album.

Kylie NOT getting the automatic #1 single and album that a lot of people seemed to think she had a God-given right to.

Lows

Andrea Corr completely bombing. It's a genuinely good album, the only problem was she released it a few years too late.

The Spice Girls comeback. We KNOW they're capable of MUCH better than Headlines. In the 90s it wouldn't even have been an album track. An opportunity wasted.

Boyzone looking at Take That and just coincidentally deciding they want to reform aswell. They're just NOT needed.

Cascada's success. There's been some great dance this year; Groove Armada's "Song 4 Mutya" deserved to be #1 forever, and the Freemasons have had a fantastic year (it's nice to see an Alanis track in the top 10 after so long, even if it's not her singing). Yet the mindless public went out in droves to buy the repetitive DRIVEL spouted by that pouting blonde girl instead. AWFUL.

Kelly Rowland; Like This was a good track, but has she even bothered releasing a second single yet? Why not?

The continual over-exposure of Doherty and Winehouse. Yes Winehouse has talent, but she's hardly making the most of it is she? And Doherty's always been an over-rated waste of space. So WHY are they still being lauded as God and Goddess of music?

Sugababes destroying record of excellent single releases by contributing to the DIABOLICAL Walk This Way cover. Charity is NO excuse.

The dance music industry STILL relying on scantily-clad tarts to promote their tracks. Here's an idea...why don't you try selling your music on it's QUALITY?

The UK public still buying anything if it sells well in America, especially the urban stuff. I don't know anyone who liked "Beautiful Girls" but it still made #1. How was this allowed to happen?

This year has been a pretty dull year IMO. Last year seemed full of really defining songs like SOS, Maneater, Hips Don't Lie, SexyBack, Irreplaceable and Smile. Then there were the massive indie hits from Razorlight, Snow Patrol, Gnarls Barkley and Kooks. 2006 just seemed to be mega hit after mega hit. This year just seems really boring in comparison.

Lots of poor comebacks and flops has meant a lot of this years hits have been from albums released in 2006.

This year there doesn't seem to have been any really big breakthrough that's really caught everyone's attention. The only one I can think of MIKA who I can't stand. Then maybe Kate Nash but her chart success is pretty limited really.

There's a few stand out songs this year like The Way I Are, Stronger, Foundations, Umbrella and Bleeding Love. I think this year has really been Timbaland's year who's been a part of so many of the big hits.

Highs:

Robyn getting to No.1 with With Every Heartbeat and generally reigniting her career in the UK

Take That selling over quarter of a million with Shine despite coming from a million selling album

Cascada continuing to amaze everyone with their ongoing success

Fergie making a good song! (Big Girls Don't Cry)

Timbaland becoming one of the biggest and most deservedly successful acts of the year

Freemasons working wonders on everything around them

Lows:

Colbie Caillat going generally unnoticed in the UK

Poor comebacks (in comparison to their last albums) from Kelly Clarkson, KT Tunstall and James Blunt

Song 4 Mutya not going top 5

Spice Girls missing the top 10 with Headlines

Westlife dominating xmas album buying for the 9th year in a row

The continuing success of the tragic Chasing Cars

this year has had nothing on 2006. Maroon 5, KT Tunstall, Orson and Arctic Monkeys all realeased brilliant albms, some better than their debuts but have failed to reach anywhere near the success.

whereas overrated, undeserving, radio 1/2-must buy this cos we said so druggie Amy Winehouse has had all the success. I know Leona has done well but I feel tho she is a good artist she has been pressed in my face so much that i am sick of her now.

then again we've had some great number 1 singles this year: Mika, Rihanna, Sugababes.

Its just the albums chart thats been a real let down. 2006 was soooo much better.

Highs - Leona - Bleeding Love and Rihanna - Umbrella. Getting the success that the amazing songs deserve

Lows - Amy Winehouse with all the drugs etc, she has taken off big time, it could have ruined her LOL

Highs:

- Nelly F still doing so well this year despite releasing the album last year and Say it Right selling so much on downloads alone.

- Sugas going top on both charts (again) and being the first girl group to have a download only number 1!

- Amy Winehouse's album and singles (Inc Valerie)

- Leona's huge success- she deserves it all.

Lows:

- Fergie (enough said).

- Connie Talbot releasing an album and single- she's far too young.

- Sean Kingston (everything about him!)

Highs:

Great albums from Beverley Knight, Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5

Five good #1 singles (Robyn, Sugababes, Leona, Timbaland-The Way I Are, Rihanna) I can't remember the last year I liked that many #1's!

Spice Girls flopping with Headlines

Lows:

Joss Stone having huge flops with Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now and her album

Nelly Furtado milking her album

Akon continuing to be successful

Over hyped acts like Mika and Kate Nash

Timbaland's other two songs spending forever in the top 5

Kylie returning with a terrible album

Spice girls flopping

Leona lewis having so much success

Siobhan Donaghy flopping

All this indie c**p going around!

Highs:

RIHANNA. Seriously who would've guessed she'd be one of it not THE most succesful female solo artist this year with a 10 week #01 single in the form of ''Umbrella'', consistent good sales for singles and a #01 album. And I seriously think we won't be seeing her disappearance any time soon at all. I'm so thrilled for her too <3

RnB also being good this yeat with Timbaland, Kanye, Beyonce & Shakira, Rihanna all taking the tiopsot when (imo) last year was more indie orientated.

New artists getting success such as Kate Nash, Robyn, Leona Lewis among others. ^_^ Oh and Girls Aloud + Sugababes having a very successful year.

Lows:

Poor comebacks notably in the form of Natasha Bedingfield, Maroon 5, Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Sophie E-B. Some of it was good imo just the chart positions :(

$h!t clogging up the charts such as Sean Kingston, 50 Cent, Soulja Boy, McFly, Westlife, Plain White T's, Scouting For Girls. I could go on. :puke2:

high:

more long-running number ones this year

low:

too many songs spending 25+ weeks on the chart
