Posted December 11, 200718 yr Supermarkets stay strong in Christmas singles push Source: MW Tuesday December 11, 2007 By Stuart Clarke The power of the supermarkets is affirmed this week as strong sales for the charity single What A Wonderful World (Dramatico) - a post-humus duet recorded by Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy – look set to push the single to the top of the charts. The exclusive single is available only via Tesco in the UK and all profits will benefit the British Red Cross. Leona Lewis maintains a strong presence with only a minimal dip in week on week sales for her Bleeding Love (Syco/Sony BMG) single thus far. Other significant changes expected inside the top ten include the continued rise of Soulja Boy’s debut, Crank That (Soulja Boy), (Polydor), which looks likely to enter the top five, and What Hurts The Most (All Around The World) by Cascada which is set to enter the top ten. A further two new entries are expected inside the top thirty with Crowded House’ Pour Le Monde (EMI) and Stereophonics’ My Friends (V2/Mercury) enjoying moderate sales. Meanwhile Foals make their first appearance inside the top fifty with Balloons, a track recently performed on Later With Jools Holland. Their debut album will follow next year. Looking at this week's albums, Michael Buble looks to be feeling the full force of the X Factor this week as sales of his repackaged offering, Call Me Irresponsible (Warner Bros) soar following his prime time performance over the weekend. Such is the strength of the sales thus far that the album is expected to climb from outside the top twenty into the top five. Elsewhere inside the top ten things look set to remain relatively stable with Leona Lewis maintaining a strong lead ahead of her competition. Her debut album Spirit (SyCo) is likely to hold on to the number one position for another week. Buble’s sales increase aside the top ten is expected to remain predominantly unchanged. Led Zeppelin’s best of set, Mothership (Warner Bros) is as yet fairly unaffected by the group’s blitzing performance at the O2 last night however expect this to change as the headlines take effect Paul Pott’s is likely to re-enter the top twenty with the Christmas edition of his debut album, One Chance.
