Posted December 27, 200717 yr Over the past couple of years the January (or now Boxing Day onwards) sales have affected the albums chart in late December/early January. For instance, Green Day returned to the top of the chart in 2005 due to heavy sales discounting, and I am sure the combined might of sales and people actually buying what they wanted with money/vouchers will see some huge climbs and surprises next week. Any predictions on what may rise? I think that Take That's Beautiful World, currently under a fiver in Wollies will rise, as could the Kaiser Chiefs, and could this years top Christmas present, Leon's Spirit crash down the charts? :o
December 27, 200717 yr Every year there's always an album that rises to the top spot for the first time that's been around a few months. 2007: Amy Winehouse 2006: Hard-Fi 2005: The Killers I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say this year it will be Amy MacDonald.

December 27, 200717 yr I think Celine Dion's new album may rise back into the top10 following the tv programme and promotion for her new single.

December 27, 200717 yr I know this is about albums, but ... I think that the singles chart, especially now with downloads in the mix will throw up a few surprizes itself. I think it will be anything but the traditional stagnation of previous years, but I think the #1 will stay the same, though I'm hoping the charity single "What A Wonderful World" will return to the top, but I'm realistic. It's not the first time that X Factor has knocked off a charity single from the #1 spot. Albums wise, I think Led Zeppelin might do it - reaching numero uno.
December 27, 200717 yr Amy MacDonald will shoot up thanks to heavy discounting! At least many more people will hear the mighty Barrowland Ballroom :) I think the real effects will kick in next week as this weeks chart will still include Sun 23rd and Xmas Eve's sales (the two biggest days of the year) which will still weigh heavily in favour of Leona and Westlife...
December 27, 200717 yr I've ordered Amy MacDonald for £4.99 from HMV.com and think she'll shoot back in to the top 10 but not No.1. Edited December 27, 200717 yr by Crazy Chris
December 27, 200717 yr With after christmas being probably about as important for shop-buisnesses now as pre christmas i don't think album sales will suffer so much as there will be so many people in shops. However i think single total sales will go down a lot as you wouldn't download a song from Itunes/7Digital for christmas for someone (that just doesn't seem right) which means that single sales don't normally go up as much at christmas now the physical market has been decimated. And it seems physical sales is the dominant force over christmas.
December 27, 200717 yr i'd hope it'd be maroon 5 or KT Tunstall. but looking at the c**p album charts we've had in the last year i'm not gonna hold my breath. Greatest Hits will plummet as usual. Is Amy MacDonald's album any good? I'm kind of tempted.
December 27, 200717 yr Is Amy MacDonald's album any good? I'm kind of tempted. I love it, for 4.99 that's a bargain for it, its not as if you are shelling out for a full price album
December 27, 200717 yr I hate amy mcdonald....especially her unforgiveable perfromance of the killers 'mr brightside' on transmission. :puke2:
December 27, 200717 yr The Kaiser Chiefs seem to be a fiver everywhere. That'll be top 20 I reckon. Rihanna could be rebound as could lots of rock bands who Aunties hadn't heard of and who nieces, nephews & grandkids will swap their new Westlife and Leona albums for. (PS I like Leona but I can imagine a lot of emo kids having to unwrap that album on christmas morning.)
December 27, 200717 yr I really think Amy MacDonald will be number one, she's a fiver pretty much everywhere (Amazon, HMV, Virgin/Zavvi)
December 27, 200717 yr I've seen Kaiser Chiefs, Lily Allen, Hard Fi and KT Tunstall going really cheap. I think they all will rise.
December 27, 200717 yr The Killers are now #1 on Amazon :o That's such of a sudden rise for them, they should climb quite well in the next charts! Same for Amy MacDonald, I think she will be quite a big seller for the begining of 2008.
December 27, 200717 yr I thought there was some obscure rule that chart albums under £5 didn't count towards the chart?
