I'm definitely not defending the pictures themselves. They're people with some terrible politics...and these are more than just polite photos. Geri's hanging off Nadine Dorries like they've been best pals for a decade.

 

However. Has Geri actually changed? I've honestly always found her to be ball of contradictions in that sense. Her Thatcher fandom came during the same era Geri was being vocally supportive of the gay community. And this gets forgotten in 2022, but Geri's support of gay fans was far more rare in that time...coming when most artists just kept their mouth shut about the subject...and far better respected artists like Eminem and Prince were making homophobic comments. Nadine Dorries has fought for abstinence-only education. On the total opposite end, Geri's work with the UN was for education on contraception. And let's also not forget that Geri's Ugenia Lavender books had the last thing a true conservative would include in their work...a gay child.

 

So. Look. I don't know her mind and her heart. I'm just basing this off the evidence I've seen. This is a woman who once claimed to be a big fan of Marilyn Monroe...without having seen any of her films. I'm not sure Geri's politics are anything but the most surface understanding of things.

 

Is ignorance an excuse? No. Not really. But I've known a number of people who have run the social media of various celebs...and I think you'd be surprised how many are oblivious to the actual policies of famous politicians they recognize. Maybe Geri learns something from this.

Geri just loves these days to be seen as powerful or with people of status. Be it royals, MPs with questionable policies or even Boris. She is totally absorbed with being upper class and walking in these circles even if it means walking with awful people.

 

The wearing white, fake posh accent, living in the country manor, she is living for approval and to please those type of people. It is very sad tbh.

 

I actually think she doesn't have similar views to those sort of people but she is willing to be ignorant to their politics to keep up the silly show that she is some upper class socialite. I don't know how any of her hardcore fans from back in the day can look at the woman she is now and feel anythimg but sadness.

 

It has been going on for years now. The upset at Mel B revealing they slept together was all about how her upper class friends would view her not the actual act with Mel.

I do hope she learns indeed, but this Geri Halliwell, the woman who doubled down on her Thatcher love even when so many tried to educate her to the harm that Thatcher did.

 

She literally told Liz Truss, most probably the new PM of the UK, that she has her support. Liz Truss is about to implement the most fascist of Governments the UK has ever seen.

 

At this stage, this doesnt sound like just ignorance. It is either an acceptance, or a quest for power. Or both.

A bit late to the discussion but I'm surprised people are shocked about their favourite celebrities political opinions. Geri is a woman who 'works' as a pop star. Ginger Spice is an alter ego. A stage name. It's the same with all celebrities - their personal and private lives are probably completely different to their public personas.

 

It's always sad. I mean, Mutya from Sugababes was posting anti-gay stuff on Instagram last year and Siobhan is a Tory and people still stan for Sugababes and think because they're on stage singing Push The Button and taking selfies with gay fans that they're nice people. :lol:

I think it was actually during lockdown. She spent a whole evening posting on her Instagram story a bunch of anti-vax stuff and then posted stuff basically comparing gay men to peadophiles. I remember watching it all unfold with my mouth open. I'll try find screengrabs as I remember Popjustice Forum going crazy about it and making excuses for her saying she 'needed help'. :rolleyes:

While I do agree with you Geri will get criticism no matter what... that's not to say it isn't sometimes justified, like in this instance.
