Many Leona fans will be buying the Deluxe not only because there are 3 new tracks on it but becasue there are 6 videos (plus extras if you load it onto your PC) on it as well. I haven't bought it - that's just what I read from the back of the CD cover! I do have the original album which I love though and will be downloading Run as soon as it becomes available (legally  ).

To those that keep saying Leona's version is 'rubbish' or suchlike, please remember that this is just your opinion and not fact! I'm sure if others went around spouting that Snow Patrols version was totally pants you'd get upset! It has been recorded due to popular demand following the Live Lounge recording. Any businessman with an ounce of intelligence would have released the song at some point knowing how popular it would be.

As for Dido, I knew this was going to happen, been away for so long, and her album is not even going to hit 3 figures at the end of the week, obviously promoting the album would be a good idea, but there is nothing to show for it. A few weeks back everyone was predicting the album would sell buckets I be surprised at the end of the week if she manages 70k or even less. I was literally on the fence, as I knew it wouldn't sell like her previous albums. Yes the album lacks a bit, I heard a few tracks on youtube, but nothing grabs me.

The poor success of the new Dido album as NOTHING to do with the quality of it. All the critics I've heard praise it as an amazing comeback album, and myself I listen to it at least 2 or 3 times a day, which is really rare for an album.

It is an amazing album, and the only reason for its relative poor sales is the total lack of promo in the UK, and the fact the british public didn't connect with the first single at all.

Dido is about as exciting as sitting on a rock.

Avoid blank statements like that, IMO it easily is among the 5 most exciting albums of the year.

Also, I'm going to say this again, Leona's album (Deluxe) does not only have 3 new songs, it also has a bonus DVD with it

I have to admit that I was stunned when I read here about the "phenomenal" performance of Leona on X-Factor. It was fine until close to the end of the song where she started over-singing and wailing to the point that the lyrics were completely unintelligible.

Thankfully, on Monday Sara Cox played the Live Lounge version of Run that Leona performed last year - and that really was beautiful.

Of course, the original Snow Patrol version is amazing in itself and I'm very glad to see that it's making a return to the chart. It's a real shame that in the future when people look back at the chart histories for the track, that it'll be more associated with a singer from a TV show. The song deserved much greater success when first released.

And yes, a real con on the part of record companies re "Deluxe" albums; such a shame that so many have gone ahead and bought them.

On another note, I have to agree with someone who posted earlier that the ridiculous slump of Il Divo in comparison to Stereophonics indicates what the top two of the album chart should really have looked like last week!

Why is everyone against Leona performing on X Factor to promote her album? Since when has it been a bad thing to promote an album? Re-Release or not! I for one am happy that she's number 1. I really like her version of 'Run' but I already have the album so i'm not going to buy it again just for that song, I will wait until the download is available and download the missing songs. But there are people that probably would like this deluxe and i'm pretty sure all the hardcore Leona fans would buy it again, coz they're probably wanting it for their little collection they're getting of Leona albums and singles. And I don't see anything wrong with the fact that Leona got off her backside to promote the album whilst Dido was just sat there doing nothing to get a sale. She is lucky to be Top 5 TBH. But name and being plastered all over supermarkets at a low price are always going to ensure sales (Katie Melua's single from Tesco for eg.) This is Dido's own fault for not getting off her arse to promote. Especially after seeing her debut single Flop you would have thought she would have done more promo!

Leona for Number 1 please :)

I have nothing against going on X-Factor to promote things, but c'mon, she's promoting a year old album with a couple more songs. I want to know where all this performing on X-Factor came from to start with. I don't watch it, but I did watch the first Pop Idol and they nver did anything like it. The stars of that show were the finalists and people got enough entertainment watching them and didn't need anything else.

I like it when someone comes along and kills the mood -_-

Xmas Bert is back :cheer:

I totally agree with you. Isn't that the reason anyone goes onto X-Factor, to promote whatever it is they are releasing and hope to gain sales by it. Leona is not the only one to have done this. Yes, she has benefitted more by her performance, but for me that is because she gave the best performance on the show than I think I've ever heard from anyone. And the fact that Run is a really outstanding song, made it even better. Its always been one of my favourite Snow Patrol songs and still is, but it doesn't stop me really enjoying a completely different version by Leona. I'm sure the majority of people releasing an album during the X-factor run would be delighted to get exposure on the show for their music, but unfortunately there aren't enough slots to accommodate everyone.

I shall be buying the Deluxe album at the weekend, sorely because I never bought the original last year and because I love her version of Run. There are other songs on the original album that I really liked but not enough to encourage me to buy it, although I have been tempted a few times. This has finally tipped the balance for me and I shall finally be getting it. And that would have been the case for me whether they'd released Run for download or not, because I want it on an album that I can play wherever I want to play it.

The promotion thing is a huge tool on these shows across the world - on Star Academy in France they sometimes have four or five musical guests on one show. American Idol has been doing it for years. With the lack of mainstream pop shows on major TV, these entertainment shows have become an important promotional tool for record companies. Hence you'll see Britney and Beyonce on X-Factor this series.

Here here about The Killers! Sometimes artists/bands can becoming gradually more and more popular without reality tv!

And seriously, Leona's version of 'Run' is absolute rubbish!! Snow Patrol's best song has been slaughtered! Could Leona not find a good enough original song?

IMO you need to see an Audiologist

Agreed. I really like it. Much more than I expected.

I still think its ridiculous and irrelevant to the show. If a show needs a star singing to get ratings, especially a show where its about contestants singing which should be more than enough entertainment, then the show clearly isn't any good.

Not every X Factor performance generates massive sales - just look at e.g. Will Young's poor sales for Grace following his performance (barely scraped into top 40); Mariah's awful sales for I Stay In Love following her performance; Leon's poor sales given that he was performing to his core demographic and had won the show the year before.

Leona's has and the reason is simple - the British public aren't spoon fed and indeed are able to discern between rubbish and brilliance.

You've got the wrong end of the stick - what 6weeks was saying is that it is a massive promotional opportunity for the artist, not the show itself. X Factor has been doing very well in the ratings with and without star guests.

its the other way around. the stars use the show as a promo vehicle as it regularly attracts in excess of 10million views with or without the star appearances. Think the british public are missing a TOTP type show, MTV and the like are all very well but us Brits love a good chart show !! (none of us can deny that !!) Next money making oppurtunity for Simon C ?

Wow are you calling Will Young's single rubbish - you're brave!

Surely the other main factor after an x factor performance is whether a track is already available on an album and if 150k+ have already bought an album, they are not going to purchase a track again. The main effect will be to increase album sales which it did do.

I do find Leona fans a bit sweeping and dare I say arrogant in their judgement sometimes. You did call Leona's management incompetent a few days ago - do you still stand by that?

I didn't call his sales rubbish - I said they were poor. Two different things.

Take your point about the track already being on an album though, and it did boost sales of the album, but album & single combined equated to 20k at most for Will that week as a result of his X Factor performance.

Yes I did call Leona's management incompetent a few days ago - based on their c**k-up with FM and what I foresaw as a grave error in not releasing Run as a single as I did not think for one minute the re-released album would be top 5, never mind #1.

They pulled off a masterstroke, I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong, many others have also admitted they judged her management's decision wrongly, would be nice if others could too about other things and not make sweeping statements about "manufactured puppets", "no artistic qualities"...."only because she was on the xfactor" (that's not a dig at you :))

Umm well you did indirectly - you said his sales were poor and didn't increase sufficiently but Leona's did - as the British public are able to discern brilliance from rubbish.

Anyway I'll leave you at the mercy of the Will fans if they get to read this thread!
