November 19, 200817 yr I could easily say the same about Dido's "hype" if she were #1. Why? It would make no sense... She did absolutely no promo for this in the UK, it´s been 4 years since the public doesn´t even see her face, plus her new single had no airplay or whatsoever. It´s ridiculous to compare the hype of Leona "X-Factor" Lewis to Dido.
November 19, 200817 yr What I find so strange is the total lack of promo from Dido herself. It's not as if she'd struggle to get slots. It's as if she can't be bothered. The lead single was weak as well. I'd have expected at least 200k from her this week going on past history. The problem is not what others are selling, it is what Dido isn't. True, but Robbie still managed to sell 150K with a horrible single like Rudebox supporting the album. I'd have imagined Dido could have easily pulled off 100K off her name alone.

Yes, she is doing extremely well with no promotion, but by "hype" I meant the fact that she been away for four years so there was a big build-up of excitement for her "comeback" album. Louise is her middle name actually. :P

I'd have imagined Dido could have easily pulled off 100K off her name alone. She was away for much longer though - out of sight, out of mind. The market has also shrunk by around 12% a year for the last three years. And then there's the burgeoning broadband spread in the UK over that Dido-free time period - loads of people now download the leaked album to check it out before buying. Not sure Robbie Williams would shift 150k in today's climate off the back of Rudebox. In the States Usher has suffered a similar fate dropping from 9m sales to 1m this time through the same lack of activity.
November 19, 200817 yr LOL, she performed on X Factor on Saturday and is now in the US. Her segment on GMTV yesterday was pre-recorded and she's in America for the rest of the week. even if they are pre-recorded - she still is promoting - she is still appearing on tv to promote the album - more than what can be said for dull dido!
November 19, 200817 yr Do you know what? it still amazes me how gullible the UK public can be. This isn't specifically about Leona outselling Dido but rather any other artist this week. One performance on X-factor has propelled this. Its ridiculous. Would she get no.1 without that performance? Not by the way things were going with Forgive Me. Its not Leona, of course, its her management-its quite sick that they haven't released it digitally because fans are wasting they're money on something that only 50% (at the most) new. this year I have downloaded new tracks from Maroon 5 and plan to do the same for Duffy next week. No point in re-buying an album even if there is new material-but the management only care about money and chart positions so the fans are getting screwed-but on the other hand, Leona is no.1 so the fans are gonna be deliriously happy. As for Dido, its almost as if she planned this. She said the material wouldn't be as commercial and it isn't. She always been quite a shy person and i do sdmire her for not pressing herslef in our faces all the time. And besides, she's had two MASSIVE albums, and most artists never repeat that success. Unlike Leona, she's been there and done it, so she can do whatever she wants now. However, it'd have been nice to see her beat Leona because she seems to have put an awful lot of work into the album. I think she's tried too hard to show she's not 'mainstream' and its worked too well.
November 19, 200817 yr Yes, she is doing extremely well with no promotion, but by "hype" I meant the fact that she been away for four years so there was a big build-up of excitement for her "comeback" album. Louise is her middle name actually. :P I don´t think being years away is a factor to boost sales... In fact, it just helps the public to forget her and her fanbase to move on. If she had comeback by 2005 or 2006, which would be the "normal" timing, she would have been much bigger then now.
November 19, 200817 yr A re-released album from last year with 3 new tracks on it beating Dido's first LP for 5 years. All I can say is.. WOW. Turns out it was a good idea to hold back the release of Run after all..
November 19, 200817 yr Totally depressed that Leona has overtaken Dido :( A totally manufactured artist, admittedly with a good voice, sells better than a real artist and songwriter. Hype, hype and more hype, sickening :puke2: ruhhish, Leona does well because she is probably the best singer this country has produced in years. She has talent in spades and I wish people who dont like her would at least credit her for that. Just cos you write your own stuff doesnt give you a god given right to be succesful.
November 19, 200817 yr God all this hype over an OTT sickly and sugar coated cover version, with practically the whole bloody London Philharmonic Orchestra and Gospel Choir in the background is hilarious. With radio and tv saturation all ready lined up for next week, this could end up being as detested as James Blunt's song.

As for the best singer in years.. Amy Winehouse anyone? I don't like Dido either but Leona has had her time at #1 and an artist should be #1 based on their music instead of coming back on a Reality show she came from covering a song by just putting her trademark oversinging over it -_- Oh well The Killers will sort that out next week ^_^
November 19, 200817 yr Author I do think having a Deluxe Album at #1 is a bit of a con, especially with just 2 new tracks and some bits added to it, it amazes me how many people have bought the album just for 1 track 'Run' on the back of her performance on XF. I'm not having a pop at Leona or the track as I like the track myself. But why buy the same album if you really want 'Run'. Its madness :manson: oh hang on, because the record company decided, and more money in Simons Cowell's bank balance. As for Dido, I knew this was going to happen, been away for so long, and her album is not even going to hit 3 figures at the end of the week, obviously promoting the album would be a good idea, but there is nothing to show for it. A few weeks back everyone was predicting the album would sell buckets I be surprised at the end of the week if she manages 70k or even less. I was literally on the fence, as I knew it wouldn't sell like her previous albums. Yes the album lacks a bit, I heard a few tracks on youtube, but nothing grabs me.
November 19, 200817 yr I am so angry, disappointed and amazed at a year-old album beating a comeback album by a singer who's been away 5 years. Utterly unbelievable. I'm not a Leona hater at all, bought her album earlier this year. Edited November 19, 200817 yr by Crazy Chris

Sometimes artists/bands can becoming gradually more and more popular without reality tv! And seriously, Leona's version of 'Run' is absolute rubbish!! Snow Patrol's best song has been slaughtered! Could Leona not find a good enough original song?
November 19, 200817 yr The thing is Martin I'm not sure many people are buying the same album again with Leona - I think, as with Rihanna in the States, new people are mainly buying it who did not have the original. It just shows the power of live performance something next week's surefire #1 The Killers know all about. Edited November 19, 200817 yr by 6weeksatnumber7

November 19, 200817 yr I would have thought everyone would have had the album by now, I have and I don't even play it :D It's a big population ;) We've seen the same with Amy's deluxe which has sold ridiculously well. There's a lot of reluctant buyers out there these days who eventually will get around to a purchase if they think they're getting something extra or unique.
November 19, 200817 yr Gutted for Dido :( Not a surprise she's aint bothered to promote in the UK, the british public rather buys a deluxe edition of an old album on the back of a X Factor overrated performance than a brand new and exciting album. Meh :(
November 19, 200817 yr Why is everyone against Leona performing on X Factor to promote her album? Since when has it been a bad thing to promote an album? Re-Release or not! I for one am happy that she's number 1. I really like her version of 'Run' but I already have the album so i'm not going to buy it again just for that song, I will wait until the download is available and download the missing songs. But there are people that probably would like this deluxe and i'm pretty sure all the hardcore Leona fans would buy it again, coz they're probably wanting it for their little collection they're getting of Leona albums and singles. And I don't see anything wrong with the fact that Leona got off her backside to promote the album whilst Dido was just sat there doing nothing to get a sale. She is lucky to be Top 5 TBH. But name and being plastered all over supermarkets at a low price are always going to ensure sales (Katie Melua's single from Tesco for eg.) This is Dido's own fault for not getting off her arse to promote. Especially after seeing her debut single Flop you would have thought she would have done more promo! Leona for Number 1 please :)
