2012 Ellie Goulding - Figure 8

2013 Lorde - No Better

Pretty great Xmas #1s IMHO ~ According to my earlier post in this thread N-Dubz' 'Playing With Fire' was #1 for Xmas 2009 but I don't know if I even had a chart at Xmas 2010 and if so I wouldn't know what was #1 for it, because I didn't actually put the date on the charts in my archives prior to July 2011.

2010 - Rihanna feat. Drake "What's My Name"

2011 - Little Mix "Cannonball"

2012 - £1 Fish Man "One Pound Fish"

2013 - Arty, Matisse & Sadko "RIOT"

A shock Christmas #1 for me in the form of 'RIOT'. Hopefully it actually has a decent chart run unlike 'Cannonball' and 'One Pound Fish' which fell very fast after the new year.

A different act each year and every year the XMas #1 became bigger.

2011 went gold, 2012 went platinum and 2013 went double platinum.

I don't expect Selena to exceed Timber but it's looking like another huge Xmas #1

Foals are the first act to have 2 Christmas number 1s. :D

2011 Charli XCX "Nuclear Seasons" / Jamie N Commons "The Preacher"

2012 Foals "Inhaler" / Laura Mvula "She"

2013 Arcade Fire "Afterlife" / Blood Orange "You're Not Good Enough"

2014 LUH. "Unites" / Shamir "On The Regular"

Not much competition really this year - a song by a band called 'Lost Under Heaven' seems quite apt for a festive chart topper IMO. Last year was a 4-way battle which Arcade Fire managed to narrowly win and take the new #1 and spend a month there.

2005 Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

2006 Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This

2007 Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

2008 Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah

2009 Cheryl Cole featuring will.i.am - 3 Words

2010 Rihanna featuring Drake - What's My Name?

2011 Little Mix - Cannonball

2012 Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko - Stay

2013 Beyoncé - XO

2014 Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk

SINGLES

2011 The Saturdays - Last Call

2012 One Direction - Kiss You

2013 The Vamps - Wild Heart

2014 Tom Odell - Real Love

ALBUMS

2011 The Saturdays - On Your Radar

2012 One Direction - Take Me Home

2013 One Direction - Midnight Memories

2014 Lily Allen - Sheezus

2011 Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party - Antidote

2012 Ellie Goulding - Figure 8

2013 Lorde - No Better

2014 Taylor Swift - Blank Space

Three years in a row a female solo artist has claimed my Xmas #1! Quite surprising as female solo #1s are usually relatively rare in my chart (although having said that I had a fair few of them this year, from Beyoncé, Ella Henderson, Katy Perry, Kiesza, Lorde, Sia, Taylor Swift, Tinashe and Tove Lo).

Singles

2008: Alexandra Burke- Hallelujah

2009: Lady Gaga- Bad Romance

2010: Matt Cardle- When We Collide

2011: Little Mix- Cannonball

2012: Shontelle- Impossible

2013: Idina Menzel- Let It Go

2014: Olly Murs Ft Demi Lovato- Up

So Olly becomes the first male vocalist to top the charts since Matt Cardle and this is the first collab to have a Christmas #1 for a long time. In the end there was only 200 copies between this and blank space. Also the 2012 #1 was Shontelle and not Taylor, I knew you were trouble started its 9 weeks at #1 on the final week of December and not Christmas #1 week.

2015 Grimes “Flesh Without Blood” / David Bowie “Blackstar”

As we all know the PROPER Christmas #1 chart should be the one dated 20th December - so here is mine for this year. Bowie was close but it seemed only fair to give it to Grimes this year as 2015 has been her year for me - NINTH week on top (5 for “REALiTi” in April/May) - as with 3 of the past 4 Christmas #1s she doesn't look likely to hold into the 'dead week' otherwise known as the last chart of the year.
