Although I'm quite saddened by this, I must say I much prefer HMV anyway. I (personally) think HMV are cheaper on the things that I want, whereas if I go and look in Zavvi for the same thing 8 times out of 10 it's £2-£3 more.

Im surprised the one in Oxford City Centre isnt closing down. They have one of the larger Zavvi stores that ive seen and its usually empty.

The fate of Zavvi will have no impact on Virgin mobile - Virgin mobile contract and PAYG phones can be bought from all Supermarkets and most phone stores.

If you buy your contract phone from them in Chavvi then you get twice the minutes/texts ;)

I bought my last two phones from Virgin in Zavvi Dundee and wouldn't buy from anyone else as you don't get as much bang for your buck

Can't believe the two stores within a mile of each other in Belfast are staying open!
Is it just coincidence that all of the Zavvis in all the Desinger outlets are closing? Maybe McArthur Glen were charging to much rent?

They probably have the lowest turnovers too tbh...

Yeah the two in Glasgow city centre are a five minute walk from each other, I'm glad they are both staying open, especially the big one.

I would die if that happened :(

The big mistake that Zavvi made was turning the shop from 60% CDs 40% DVDs to 60% DVDs 40% CDs <_<

If only Branson took over it again and changed them back to Virgin :(

I heard a rumour that he's thinking about doing just that, i preferred it when it was Virgin too.

Only time will tell if it happens.

I'm pleased that the Birmingham & Merry Hill branches aren't included in the list.

People who into Designer Outlet to buy clothes, not to buy CDs and stuff. I don't know about all the other Designer Outlet's but the one in York is upstairs, and you only really go upstairs if you want to eat, look at a 2nd rate bookshoop, or buy birthday cards...

The one in York Designer Outlet is a pretty small shop, and it's main emphasis was DVDs and not music.

True but was still normally busy alot of the time, it was way to small though.

Always seemed pretty steady when I went in there. Compared to how busy the rest of the place is on weekends especially, Zavvi always seemed pretty empty to mr. I always used to go in there, but rarely EVER used to buy anything. Infact I think I only ever bought The Descent on DVD from there, and that was reduced to about £7.

I'm surprised both of you never bumped into each other :heehee: first Buzzjack meet

True it seems to be mainly out of town/designer village stores that have been sacrificed. I’ve been to Salford Quays many times but never thought of buying CD’s there! The only one there that surprises me is Huddersfield unless they have 2? Although it’s not far from Leeds…

I think Zavvi's only real chance for survival is if Branson comes in with a rescue plan.

Yea often went in on my breaks, but never had any good thing, they should have moved into a bigger store and would have made alot of money with 100% of the market in the outlet lol. But got Alien vs Pred Requim for £2.99 last week which is pretty good.

Bridgend (Welsh Designer Outlet Village)

this is the worst 'record store' I've been into in my life, so no surprise it's for the chop.

Thanks for showing us which Zaavi stores are affected and will be closing. Although quite sad I am glad my local one is not in the list.

Hmm they might have done better moving downstairs, but all of the shops downstairs are like gold mines. As soon as one chain disappears, within a couple of weeks a new chain will have opened up. I don't think it'd have done Zavvi much good, as they do look a bit out of place in a massive centre that's full of large brand name clothes shops mainly.

The Bridgend store's my local store too. Bough a few things from there over the years, but not as much as I have bought from the Cardiff branch. Used to be called XS until Virgin bought the group, then was renamed Virgin XS until Zavvi took over.

Just to add to my previous post I hear that Zavvi will be slashing the prices to 20% off everything up to 50% from tomorrow :-)

The bridgend store is rubbish

I went into the cardiff store today

Cds 20% off

Dvds 20% off

Vinyl 50% off

and there was summat with 30% off forgotten what it was
