February 25, 20169 yr For those who may want to watch the performance again... oEW_CfrU6sY I seriously can't get over this. :snif: :snif: I don't think any of the other performances are on youtube in high quality! :drama:
February 25, 20169 yr Marina has a similar stance to me on the BRITs' diversity debate: http://www.digitalspy.com/music/brit-award...k-of-diversity/
February 25, 20169 yr We have four major awards ceremonies The BRIT awards, Mercury Music Prize, MOBO's & NME awards. Covering ALL bases of UK music. The BRITs for the more commercially appealing artists, MMP for the "indie"/left field artists, MOBO's for the Urban & soul scene and the NME for the rockier artists. So there's something for just about everyone. I really wish the BRITs didn't get rid of the category awards though, but I guess nowadays it's harder to differentiate the genres. A lot of Urban music slip into the Dance category now and vice versa, etc...
February 25, 20169 yr What needs changing is the basis for nominations on Best Single / Video. Most sales / views is not a good indication of the best in either of those categories a lot of the time. Maybe then Stormzy could be nominated for Best Single :P
February 25, 20169 yr It's just a shame there's not an awards ceremony where indie, urban and rock gets an equal playing field as pop or the more commercial sounds.
February 25, 20169 yr the NME awards were created as a reaction to how predictable the BRITS had become - weren't they? Edited February 25, 20169 yr by Colm

February 25, 20169 yr the NME awards were created as a reaction to how predictable the BRITS had become - didn't they? Which is why they were known as the BRATs for a while.
February 25, 20169 yr It's just a shame there's not an awards ceremony where indie, urban and rock gets an equal playing field as pop or the more commercial sounds.Agreed. But I don't think there'll be anything like this, ever. Even the GRAMMY's which has all the categories that they do gets scrutinised for being "predictable" and chasing trends/nominating artists due to popularity and sales etc...
February 25, 20169 yr the NME awards were created as a reaction to how predictable the BRITS had become - didn't they? Strangely though, for a few years in the 90s, the BRATS winners could be used as predictions for the following year's BRITS winners.
February 25, 20169 yr Well saying "Coldplay won best band because they're Coldplay" is discrediting their current success. If Coldplay won best band because they're Coldplay then they would have won last year, no? I wouldn't say Coldplay's TV performances are notoriously terrible? They always provide incredible vision and always manage to have some sort of stage presence. I do agree that Little Mix should have been nominated for best group but just because their performance was heavily reliant on loud backing tracks at times and you can't exactly expect Coldplay to do a similar routine to Little Mix? They're both completely different artists and Coldplay deserved to win because they have once again been the most successful British band in the last 12 months. Coldplay are doing well but they could probably release an album of farting and it'd still win them a BRIT, it was very predictable for an era which is not their most successful or even close. Little Mix at least deserved recognition I think, for an album which is selling way better than their previous two, and they've had their biggest era singles-wise too. Last night, their performances weren't even comparable quality-wise. Chris Martin's vocals were ropey and it just fell flat for me, and others too. Little Mix gave good vocals and an incredible performance. Using a backing track should not be frowned upon or seen as something bad, because it isn't. Justin had a backing track during Sorry too, to enhance the vocals during the chorus while he could mainly focus on dancing. Let's face it, we all know what excellent vocalists they are from performances of Secret Love Song recently. They are different acts of course but you can still compare them when they're nominated in the same category.

I get this general argument, but I do take issue with statements like this - they were up for British Group last year and didn't win, they were also up in 2009, coming off the back of an hugely successful era and didn't win, in fact they were completely snubbed that ceremony despite multiple nominations. Let's not forget this era has been very successful, both the albums and singles have sold very well and been well received, not up to their past successes, but a heck of an improvement on Ghost Stories last year. I'm not denying that their win was very predictable/biased by it possibly being their last album and they're clearly BRITs favourites, and Years & Years possibly were more deserving, but I don't believe it's true that they just give it to them by default. Hell, most of the winners did do more than enough to deserve their wins. I actually think this was the least predictable set of Brits winners in a long time so this argument coming around again is strange - would anyone have guessed that Bjork could walk away with an award in 2016, beating Meghan Trainor in the process? February 25, 20169 yr Out of interest, did Coldplay promo Ghost Stories at all? (I wish Magic had been even bigger  ), because had they been performing at last year's Brits I'm sure they would have been in for a much stronger chance of winning , there always seems to be a slight bias if you're performing.

They did quite a bit in the lead up and soon after the release (Big Weekend, Jools Holland, Live Lounge, Sports Relief, daytime TV) which was when 'Magic' and 'A Sky Full of Stars' was released, then they did some more at Christmas but 'True Love' and 'Ink' pretty much just had Radio 1 airplay for promotion, if that actually. It certainly seemed they were less prominent in that era which is probably why the album didn't perform as well as expected.
February 25, 20169 yr Jess glynne and little mix were robbed And yes adele has had a fantastic year but 4 awards cmon share
February 27, 20169 yr my Brits performance rate: Coldplay - not sure what people have against this, I thought it was a fun way to start the show. a decent performance too. - 7/10 Jess Glynne - she sounded like she wanted to die, but that's part of the Jess Glynne package. I thought it was a good performance of AGFTG. - 8/10 James Bay - Hold Back The River is so irritating now, but he was decent, although his hat is a bit strange. - 6/10 Justin Bieber - I missed this one, but from what I saw it was an OK performance, if a little weak. - 6/10 Rihanna - this was a FANTASTIC performance and I loved the additions of SZA and Drake. the best of the night. - 10/10 Little Mix - the fact that they evidently mimed the chorus irritated me. - 4/10 DBB & Lorde - what a fantastic combination. a really nice addition to the show by two acts close to him. - 9/10 The Weeknd - as always, really good and a great performance of The Hills. - 9/10 Adele - she was great, but her songs don't appeal to me so I left half way through. - 6/10
February 27, 20169 yr I don't really see miming as a valid criticism of the Little Mix performance. They had a heavy dance routine. They have nothing to prove in the vocal department, you just need to watch their Secret Love Song performances for that. It's not like they're miming to hide a lack of vocal ability (like Cheryl could be seen as doing, as much as I love her).
