Whats the obsession with Mini Viva on Popjustice?

I can understand ILMHIT and to a lesser extent "One Touch" but not the god awful "I Wish" with it's nursery rhyme lyrics. Do Mini Viva have something on them or know someone who works on the site?

Diana Vickers FTW!

Left My Heart In Tokyo and Bad Boys are both in my top 10 of 2009 so one of them to win pls!!!
Out of this list Alexandra to win. However I think it will be HURTS. The Mini Viva love is baffling  Nice to see Diana and Marina get mentons though

Much worst list than usual, the lack of Girls Aloud is clearly evident :(

My personal favourite is HURTS - Wonderful Life but I'd guess the winner would be something from Mini Viva, they have a 1 in 4 chance after all  How did Nerina and Groove Armada get on there with really quite weak singles in comparison to their back catalogue?

I personally think Bittersweet WILL win this...Popjustice bummed that song to death. :/ There's also gotta be a reason why it was physical #1 despite only making #25...i mean it's not like she's Paul Weller

Either that...or PJ clearly seem to love Mini Viva so one of their tracks may win?

Personally...i'd be happiest if One Touch, Kickstarts, Real Late Starter and to a lesser extent if Once or Bad Boys won.

One Touch done no where near as well as it should of been as it is really good. :)

Kickstarts is amazing!

Real Late Starter like One Touch didn't do as well as it deserved and is just generally gorgeous.

Once was #1 but fell a bit too fast so clearly wasn't as well recieved as it seems... But I do love it! :)

Bad Boys had it's time last year as a huge #1 so I don't think I would ideally like this track to win...

Alexandra, Example or Hurts to win plzz.

What a joke of a website/competition :/

My pick is EASILY Alexandra.. I have a feeling Sophie or Mini Viva will win though!

First year without a Girls Aloud nomination :(

And Cheryl is not there to represent, that's tragedy :o

And just realised there is 3 Mini Viva singles, I like them but this is clearly a joke. :puke:

Burke to win, but I'm not even bothered.

Is it any surprise to see Mini Viva nominated so much? In a year without Girls Aloud, they were always going to be drawn to the next generic Xenomania backed girl group. I guess three is a bit excessive though, I doubt even Girls Aloud had multiple nominations before, maybe it's because Popjustice feels they were underrated by the public. (personally I think their relative lack of success was fully deserved)

But even Mini Viva aside, the list reads like a bit of a joke. I think "Bad Boys" would be the only shared song in my personal nominations. They must have purposefully snubbed Cheryl, even I would say "Fight For This Love" was worthy of a nomination over most of these. Example and Marina have better eligible songs too. The lack of Ellie and Leona isn't a surprise, but would have been better inclusions. "Never Leave You" feels really old compared to the rest, so it's a surprise not to see "Remedy" nominated either as they were around at similar times.

Hurts are crap y'alls. Aaron, what Leona song exactly do you feel should've qualified? Neither single is anywhere near the quality of most of that list...

Personally I would've replaced Marina's nomination with Gold Digger by Dolly Rockers which was severely underrated. Marina sucks majorly. Bad Boys really needs to win.

'Bad Boys' is the only deserving nomination imo. A song that is of a high standard (despite not being one of my favourites of hers) as well as selling nearly 700,000 copies.

The other nominations are frankly pathetic. 'Once' is a good pop song but nothing more. 'The Boy Who Murdered Love' is undoubtedly better lyrically and musically. The Mini Viva bumming is not just unnecessary, it's wrong. As Aaron said, their music is generic Xenomania production. 'Never Leave You' is EVEN MORE generic! The lyrics are abysmal and the song as a whole is boring. And 'Bittersweet', like 'Once', is just a good pop song - that's it!

I personally would have nominated 'Happy' by Leona Lewis. Probably the best lyrical concept of a song released in the past few years. But then we know popjustice don't take into account the lyrics, do they? <_<

The nominations for both this and the Mercury prize are so awful it just shows how rubbish the last few months have been for music.

Out of that lot, Hurts or Sophie Ellis-Bextor for the win. The judging event will be pretty funny, as they'll probably end up crossing off half of the songs within 2 minutes without even discussing reasons why they should be out of the running;

‘One Touch’ by Mini Viva

‘I Won’t Kneel’ by Groove Armada

‘Kickstarts’ by Example

‘Real Late Starter’ by Nerina Pallot

‘Never Leave You’ by Tinchy feat Amelle

‘I Wish’ by Mini Viva

All very inferior. Won't Go Quietly would have been a better choice for Example, and the Mini Viva overload is ridiculous. Even Girls Can't Catch deserve a mention over One Touch.

Surprised Cheryl Cole isn't nominated too.

For me personally, Fight For This Love >>>>>>>> All of these

The only British pure pop song of the last 12 months that will go down as a 'classic'. Girls Aloud have won far too many of these granted, but Cheryl didn't deserve to be snubbed.

Fight For This Love is hideous. its has not one redeeming feature, and it flaunts just how $h!t her voice is.
diana to win although she won't as she's too love/hate. takes it by storm for me though, as the rest of the songs range from good to just dire.

As Mini Viva are probably no more, imagine Pop Justice blogging on their latest exploits:

"Mini Viva are at their local job centre and are doing a signing which is what they do every fortnight. For this they get £100! The dark haired girl has a job working nights. We see her standing in Soho on a dark summer night in a short skirt about to jump in a mans car. "I get £40" she says. The blonde hair girl also has a work from home job. "Each night men come round to my room and I get money"."

If they win the £20 prize, it will help towards the shopping :D

Well it's a mixed bag. Some utter gems there - Groove Armada, Nerina, Example, Sophie, Diana. And then some utter bilge - really there's no justification at all for three Mini Viva songs. Ridiculous. Have they not been flushed yet?
