Yes just three episodes again unfortunately!

I can't remember the title but

it's the story where Sherlock and Moriaty fight near the waterfall.

Oh at the Riechenbach Falls - The Final Problem - which was also used by the new film.

What a cliffhanger :o Amazing episode, loved it, long wait for Series 3 since they are both filming the Hobbit.

So the question is

what did Molly do to save him, because it was obviously her. I reckon he fell in such a way that he would live (only just - and of course he knows everything so could do that) and she did some kind of switcheroo. Watson was CONVENIENTLY dazed and confused at the time so might have mistaken the body for him too.

Those are minor issues really because it was brilliantly done for the rest of it and even that wasn't bad, just a little too convoluted (assuming it does end up like that). Moriarty annoyed me a bit though, I didn't like his voice, but that's just a person thing.

Just finished watching the final episode, WOW. I predicted after the first one aired that this would be an ending worth waiting for and it really was.

The twist with Moriarty shooting himself was one that I didn't quite see coming, his death does make the stories for the next series more of a challenge though and it's sadly open to not having any more. :(

There will definitely be a 3rd series. No question about it. They left it open to interpretation in the end. The BBC have not had a hit like this with critical acclaim and viewing figures for years. The issue last time was with Martin Freeman being in The Hobbit. I am pretty sure filming is wrapped up in the next few months for that. Cumberbatch is in Star Trek 2, but I'm not sure how big his role is, but filming schedules should not be such an issue this time around.

That last episode was television at its best. It was so cleverly written and filmed. The Moriaty ending was a bit of an anti-climax, but I certainly did not see it ending up the way it did! I honestly can't think how Sherlock got himself out of that one. Molly was obviously part of it, but even if this is a television show, even IF he survived from that height he would at least have sort sort of paralysis or broken bones.

Oh good, although hopefully it'll be on air next year as opposed to 2016 or whatever.

2013!

I've seen some brilliant theories on how Sherlock did it.

There's the truck in the background open. There's the fact Sherlock told Watson to stand in an exact spot. The focus on thr eubber ball in the hospital (you can slow down your pulse with it, I've seen it on Derren Brown!). Obviously Mycroft and Molly helped him.

Cumberbatch is playing the villain in Star Trek 2, I was just reading an extract from my latest sci fi mag regarding the new Star Trek film.

Was there a mannequin in Sherlock's office, I think the mannequin was used somehow

There's so many theories going about. I've no idea how exactly the writers will explain it, but there was enough clues in the episode for them to make it plausible. When writing the 1st years cliffhanger, I read an interview saying they didn't initally know exactly how they were going to resolve it. But seeing as series 3 was comissioned with series 2 I am guessing the first drafts of the scripts for the next series have probably already been drawn up.

The only problem the BBC are going to have now is that the 3rd series will likely be the last. Both the two lead actors careers will blow up once The Hobbit and Star Trek 2 are released. Hollywood will come calling.

Rumoured to be playing Khan in the new Star Trek movie :D

This was indeed great.

I think he did it by actually sussing out that Moriaty just employed people to help him create the illusion and did the same thing to get his own back. He asked Molly to get people to help (as he doesn't know enough people to do it himself, hence the only thing he would require anyone's help to do!), hinted at in the show also by Moriaty commenting that he now had an audience. He positioned Watson specifically in a spot so presumably he was somewhere he was unlikely to see the impact (coupled with someone on the bike knocking him over deliberately) and also he knew that the sniper was on Watson so he couldn't be in the same eyeshot or the sniper would have seen the trick also. I think the lorry was probably used as he could have waited for it's arrival but I'd place my money on it being a simple stunt with other people involved to bring the story full circle. I guess we'll see...

I've just watched both series for the first time in the past few days and I really enjoyed it! The first was very clever with how the episodes all linked to the reveal of Moriarty, but I thought the second was really weak in comparison. Episode 1 was a nice reintroduction but felt very slow on the whole. The second episode was awful though, I felt Gatiss and Moffatt were trying too hard to make it a sci-fi episode and it just didn't fit in with the show I felt. I understand that it was based on a Sherlock Holmes original though, so maybe it was just too modern. The third was good but I felt that was Doctor Who-ised too much as well, with the whole celebrity personas of Sherlock and Watson. The last half was brilliant though, Moriarty's suicide especially - Andrew Scott is a fantastic actor, I'd only seen him in Dates beforehand, but I can completely understand why he won the BAFTA.

A very brief/not-giving-anything-away trailer for series 3 was shown on BBC One last Friday:

There's not really a lot to say, but I hope the overall quality is far more akin to series 1.

It's airing on January 19th in America!

So I'm sure we can assume it will get its premiere in the UK before then, possibly New Years Day again like Series 2!

It's been confirmed that BBC has worldwide first run rights so it will appear on BBC One sometime between tonight and January 19th at 10pm East Coast Time.

The BBC have also already aired several teaser clips and have had it feature in trailers, so that's a sign that it'll be coming soon - because Steven Moffat said in an interview about why Doctor Who's trailer hadn't aired yet that they had to wait in line because other shows had got in there first, and the promo will be based upon how long or how short it is until the series airs - and Sherlock must be one of those in front of Doctor Who.

Actually keeping this on topic though ~

I've tried to invest in this on a couple of occasions, although I can't really commit myself to it. It always gets rave reviews, but there's just something about Benedict Cumberbatch I really dislike. :(

I'm not big on Benedict Cumberbatch either. He seems to come across as a pretentious twat in every role (and not in a fun Sheldon Cooper way either) and I can't get behind a protagonist I just don't like. Martin Freeman is great in this though.

Sherlock is to return to BBC One on January 1, 2014.

After months of speculation, the BBC confirmed today that the hit detective drama's third series will premiere on New Year's Day.

Episode two will then follow on Sunday, January 5, with the third episode airing on Sunday, January 12.

Sherlock's third series will be comprised of Mark Gatiss opener 'The Empty Hearse', Stephen Thompson's 'The Sign of Three' and Steven Moffat's finale 'His Last Vow'.

The Killing star Lars Mikkelsen will make his debut in the new run as Sherlock's latest nemesis Charles Augustus Magnussen.
