Really? I can see it peaking at 11/12 this week and then either having a Shontelle sort of chart run or disappearing fairly quickly. But maybe I'm biased as I don't see anything particularly special in the track when holding it up to some of her past classics. Bad Romance was clearly a monster waiting to happen which made its initial crap chart run in the UK all the more frustrating. At least it eventually got the success it deserved though!

Pink's profile has dipped a little bit since the Funhouse era I think. She's still a big star but not GaGa/Katy Perry/Rihanna style famous at the moment, maybe on the next rung down with Kylie and Britney - still smashing but not quite at the very top of their game like they used to be. I can't see her on the X Factor final anyway, it's usually saved for either absolute megastars or Cowell/Walsh affiliated bores like Westlife.

Probably. The industry is very ageist :( Not that Pink's old of course, I guess people just start to take stars for granted after they become part of the furniture of the charts as it were.

indeed, its apity!! pretty sure pink may have made no1 at the end of the summer - too busy in the charts during november!!

I think it's more that artists have to move with the times a bit more. Like Usher got his first #1 in the 90s, but he still managed to get a #1 this year, because OMG was the sort of song that the public were going to love in 2009/2010 (with the help of will.i.am). OMG probably would've flopped in the 90s, and would also probably flop if released in 2022. Likewize, I imagine that Usher's early singles wouldn't have been massive successes if released now.

However, some other artists don't really move along with the times, so they have massive success in the years where mainstream music encompasses the music that they happen to make, but as the years go on, they'll lose popularity, as the musical tastes of the general public gradually change.

That's just my theory anyway. :D

Whilst I would love it of TT did manage to reclaim number 1, it doesnt look likely- Rihanna's lead will increase tomorrow- it really doesnt matter which will be remembered- its far too early to say

Oh I agree definitely.

Raise Your Glass might has well have been from the I'm Not Dead era. I'm not surprised to see it failing to take off at all, the pop/rock girls peak has passed now.

Yeah, plus I think both will be remembered anyway. Radio will still be playing The Flood for years, as they do with all Take That songs, but there's also thousands of Take That fans in the country who I doubt will forget their reuinion single, whatever happens!

Take That played it safe and released a pleasant enough but fairly boring (given all the fuss about the reunion) song. It didn't work. Their fault. I doubt even lack of promo had anything to do with it. They said that they always feel safe with a 'Gary led' song ... I suppose now that Rob's back they feel they have 'two' safe bets now. It didn't work. It isn't even that Rihanna's song is that great as that's pleasant but still a bit meh.

They've harped on about this album 'taking a new direction' (and it does) ... so why did they pick the one song that, by formula) is 90% like any other Take That song ... only not as good. They should have been brave and gone with one of the other songs ... preferably one of the Mark led songs (I'm not a great fan of his voice ... but it looks like he was given pick of the bunch from the new material).

I'm even struggling to chart Raise Your Glass any higher in my personal chart, at the moment its #32, I can't see the track progressing any further, it just seems like a reject track from one of her early albums. :(

Kath the 'safe' formula going with gary is because he has the best voice, and it seems to have helped them get to number 1 enough times over the years. Patience debuted at no.4 and rose to the top so i dont see why the flood wont do the same thing especially after x factor, children in need and the royal variety show.

The Flood isn't worthy of cleaning Patience's shoes though! Take away the stylised, posturing video ... and you're left with virtually nothing. It isn't even Rob's fault ... he's been left with a duffer of a song to lead with (I wonder if that may have been Barlow's idea  )

So please rihanna is back at no1, so, so pleased :D 3 weeks of high sales. Everything she touches turns to gold.

i think The Flood is a great lead single, and with your comment on Rob... well i duno, from where im standing he has brought out nothing worth any notice since escapology, so i dont think its Barlow's influence that has harmed the song, quite the opposite if you think about it logically.

Not everything, but she has done great singles wise. Shame she doesn't sell well with her albums, especially Rated R, as that was a fantastic album.

'The Flood' is actually really good, I say this as a non fan. It's a 110% improvement on 'Greatest Day'. :puke2:

Rated R did sell well though, I know it got off to a shaky start but it recovered.

It's sold less than 3 million copies Worldwide, I wouldn't really say that it sold "well". It should've sold better, but Rihanna's is more of a single artist, to be honest.

I don't think The Flood is a poor song at all, it's easily in my top 3 since their 2006 return. It's a shame it hasn't got the #1 but it's not the end of the world I guess, the proof in the pudding will be how well the album does. If it ended up 'only' selling 800k or something, Robbie would probably leave again as he can still get #2 singles and 800k albums with his solo career. Not sure what would happen to the band after that. Final 'Best Of' and break up again? They can't go on forever, I'd hate to see them stay together and slowly fade away like Backstreet Boys.

With the state the albums market is in worldwide, I would say that is quite good.
