If someone had said to me a few months ago that Take That the biggest boy band in the country reunited together and loved by the British masses would be held of the number 1 by a song in it's 3rd week I would have told them to jog on.

'The Flood' is actually really good, I say this as a non fan. It's a 110% improvement on 'Greatest Day'. :puke2:

With all due respect ... that wasn't hard to do.

With the state the albums market is in worldwide, I would say that is quite good.

Not really. 2.6 million copies for an artist of Rihanna's standard is not that good. Recovery has sold 2.9 million copies in the US alone and that was released in June of this year. The market isn't that bad.

Take That played it safe and released a pleasant enough but fairly boring (given all the fuss about the reunion) song. It didn't work. Their fault. I doubt even lack of promo had anything to do with it. They said that they always feel safe with a 'Gary led' song ... I suppose now that Rob's back they feel they have 'two' safe bets now. It didn't work. It isn't even that Rihanna's song is that great as that's pleasant but still a bit meh.

They've harped on about this album 'taking a new direction' (and it does) ... so why did they pick the one song that, by formula) is 90% like any other Take That song ... only not as good. They should have been brave and gone with one of the other songs ... preferably one of the Mark led songs (I'm not a great fan of his voice ... but it looks like he was given pick of the bunch from the new material).

I would actually say that this song is too much about Robbie and Gary- and the others are reduced to backing singers :(

next single they should get all the band members involved- but it will be interesting to see how well the albums sells, that will really be the key to this era- if it sells over a million and the single holds up alright, then its still been quite successful for them- if the album sells say less than 700k overall and the single bombs, then clearly this huge Robbie comeback hasnt really struck well with the fans

I actually think the album will do very well indeed. Better than I first thought it would do. Of course it isn't going to sell in the quantities / over a short period that The Circus did (which sold incredibly well for four or five weeks but then really did taper off quite a bit) but it will run. I'm sure it'll pick up fans over the next few years too and will be constant seller. I just feel that they've let themselves down by releasing what could, to all intents and purposes, be any old 'by the book' Robbie or Take That song ... when it looks like they've got a really good choice of songs they could have picked from.

By 'getting all the band members involved' I hope you don't mean something like 'The Garden' ... which for me was a total mess. I loved the elephant on the tour ... but the song itself wasn't very good at all.

Wait for the album... too little Barlow and too much Robbie.

Correct! Gary only sings one song solo ... the same number that Howard sings. You're wrong about Robbie though ... yes he does sing lead on six ... but three of them are shared. If you did it on points for 'sole' solo ... I think Mark has the biggest share of the pie on this album.

I mean not making the other singers seem like backing singers- at least on Patience and Rule The World the other's contribution was clear even though Gary obviously had the main part and Shine worked great- on The Flood, I can barely hear Mark, Jason or Howard

I'd say if anything this album has cemented her name/status, yes Good Girl Gone Bad was a huge era but that album only sold so much because of a string of absolutely mega hit singles, that's a once in a career type of era, this album has still sold very well.

it will most likely be Take That's Progress that is number 1- MrLovett has posted the others which also make some sort of an impact though

welcome to the forum btw :D

It's known as her "flop" album, not really an album that cemented her name. A Girl Like Me has sold more, Worldwide and it's sold little over Music of the Sun did. I'm not slating her, honestly, I love the album, and I think she makes great music, but saying that Rated R sold well in any way, is completely untrue. Even her own fans know that the album underperformed.

I've heard a snippet from Kidz and it is much more pleasing to my ears than The Flood. As long as they don't go with the 'bore the tits off you' ballad 'Eight Letters' (Gary's song).
