December 21, 201015 yr I need some help from the 'regulars' with the following MW statement; "After getting off to a slow start last week, Michael Jackson’s Epic- and posthumous-released Michael continues to under-perform: it is destined course to slip out of the albums top five this Sunday with sales plummeting by more than 50% week-on-week." Now, I assuming that MW is comparing MJ's sales from this Monday with last Monday? Wouldn't last Monday's results have included 'pre-sales' order with Amazon/HMV/Play etc. - making last Monday probably his best day for sales? Isn't it normal for the 2nd Monday (with no 'pre-sales) to be down on the 1st Monday? I could understand it a little more if this MW statement came out on the 2nd Friday/Saturday, but it seems a little ludicrous to come out with this so early.
December 21, 201015 yr Hazelby/Hazelby/de Burgh being missing from the update is just an OCC blooper, it happens all the time. Remember 'Gold Dust'? Edited December 21, 201015 yr by ★ Xmas Bray ★

Now, I assuming that MW is comparing MJ's sales from this Monday with last Monday? Yes, they are. Well strictly speaking, they're comparing last Monday's sales with this Sunday's+Monday's sales. But that's just semantics. Wouldn't last Monday's results have included 'pre-sales' order with Amazon/HMV/Play etc. - making last Monday probably his best day for sales? Correct again in 99% of cases (other than pre-Xmas shopping days), which brings us nicely on to your last question ... Isn't it normal for the 2nd Monday (with no 'pre-sales) to be down on the 1st Monday? Again, yes, it is extremely unusual for the 2nd Monday to be above the 1st Monday or indeed even within 10-20% of it. The reason MW are drawing attention to it is that despite the above, we're in the last Xmas shopping week and normally sales increase dramatically the closer we get to Xmas, even for albums that have just been released. For example, Olly Murs album has dropped by only 3% from 1st-2nd week and by 4% from 2nd-3rd week, and I suspect it'll increase this week, in a pattern that will be repeated across the board. Which makes MJ's 50% drop-off look odd at this time of year, when at any other time of the year it would be closer to the norm rather than an outlier.
December 21, 201015 yr Author Not a sausage from MW, if nothing else gets thru from MW this week. We still have the mid chart on Radio 1 tomorrow, that's if they get it, at least we have one update this week.

Many thanks for the great explanation. :) I would be surprised if the 50% drop applies at the end of the week. Perhaps MW 'jumped the gun' a little with 'the end is nigh'? ;)
December 21, 201015 yr The Sats are back into the 40!? Amazing for Olly aswell! And The Flood entering the top 40 :D
December 21, 201015 yr Good news for @matt_cardle_uk fans....he's still at No. 1 in today's midweek charts after selling another 80,000 copies so far this week! source Chartshowtv Edited December 21, 201015 yr by Balsamic
December 21, 201015 yr What was MW on about saying it's a quiet week then? There's LOADS of climbers! Okay, so only 3 new entries (although 2 are climbers) and 1 re-entry but Willow, Far*East Movement, Katy Perry, Olly Murs, The Pogues, Tinie Tempah, McFly, Mariah Carey, Jessie J, N-Dubz, Nelly, The Wanted, Eminem and will.i.am are all climbing! LTWYL could be back in the top 20 next week with the gift card effect, good that it looks like its top 40 run won't be interrupted :D
December 21, 201015 yr Ahh, glad McFly have climbed! Hoping they could perhaps end up top 20 again. They've just gone up 1 on Itunes to #17.
December 21, 201015 yr Thanks everyone for all the hard work and entertainment this year. Good to see Duffy not freefalling for a change.

Its because people dont condone a bunch of half finished demos being released in MJ's name, just another way of making money of a dead mans back, shame on Sony Take That are selling amazingly well, 2 million by next week even perhaps if they turn another 300k over this week! great stuff
December 21, 201015 yr Thanks everyone for all the hard work and entertainment this year. Good to see Duffy not freefalling for a change. Duffy's second album is great and should be much higher. I can't stop playing it!
December 21, 201015 yr Author You have the sales for Cheryl Cole (Messy Little Raindrops ) ? ;) We don't have any other sales.
December 21, 201015 yr Wow! So many climbers! :o That's really strange! I guess there's not many new releases to push the songs out, as well as some fast fallers in the chart. Most glad about Eminem/Rihanna climbing though. I thought they'd fall out this week, but at least they're #37 of higher currently. Also, could Matt sell less than 200,000 this week then?
