Ministry leads by Example

Ministry of Sound is poised to achieve the first artist albums number one in its history this weekend thanks to Example as Pixie Lott and Saturdays are neck and neck to top the UK singles chart.

Example’s newly-released album Playing In The Shadows is around 8,500 sales ahead of its nearest challenger, XL act Adele’s 21 whose sales her up 22% on the week following her performance last Saturday night on the first edition of Jonathan Ross’s new ITV1 chat show.

The Example album’s very likely debut at number one on this coming Sunday’s new chart follows him entering the singles countdown at number one with Stay Awake last weekend, Ministry’s fourth singles chart-topper of the year.

Joining Example and Adele in the albums top five at this stage in the week is Positiva/Virgin’s David Guetta in third place with Nothing But The Beat, which debuted at two on last Sunday’s chart behind Warner Bros act Red Hot Chili Peppers’ I’m With You, which is the fourth top seller in the new chart week, while Will Young’s RCA album Echoes is fifth.

Three veteran acts are looking to join Example among the Top 10 with newly-released albums, led in eighth place by EMI’s remastered version of The Beatles’ 1, which in its original form first came out in 2000. A place below, 87-year-old Doris Day could be on course for her first-ever UK Top 10 album with the Sony-issued My Heart currently in ninth place. Her current peak is 12, achieved by 20 Golden Greats in 1979.

Meanwhile, Chris Rea’s new Rhino album Santo Spirito Blues is the week so far’s 10th top seller, two places ahead of Nonesuch’s Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down, the newly-issued album by Ry Cooder. If it stays this high in the final chart this will also represent a new career peak for the US guitarist and singer-songwriter whose current best showing is 18 for The Slide Area in 1982.

This coming Sunday’s new albums chart should also include new entries from Island’s The Drums, John Barrowman with a Sony best of, A&M/Octone/Polydor’s Maroon 5 and Melanie C through her own Red Girl label.

On the singles chart Mercury artist Pixie Lott is seeking out her first number one, but the newly-released All About Tonight is presently only about 1,200 sales ahead of Polydor act the Saturdays’ All Fired Up, which was also released this week. A third new release, the Syco-issued Collide by Leona Lewis and Avicii, is fourth with Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera dropping a place to three and Example’s Stay Awake down from one to five.

Sales of the RCA-handled Party All Night (Sleep All Day) by Sean Kingston have more than doubled on the week to lift it 10-8, while Fiction act Snow Patrol are presently a few hundred sales short of the Top 10 positions with Called Out In The Dark cropping up as a new entry at 11.

PLEASE READ THESE RULES BEFORE POSTING

[01] Any member that is caught spamming, or trying to cause an argument to get a reaction will be severely warned with a ban for 7 days from posting on the forum.

[02] This is a mid thread for every artist do not go on and on and on about a certain artist to bring the board into disrepute.

[03] Please be patient when you are asking for a request, as you might not get an answer straight away.

[04] Any member asking for information that isn't in the updates we don't have, always read the topic before you post, I do not want to see questions like Where is Britney? repeated several times on every page of the thread, once is enough, bookmark the page if you don't have time to read all of the topic. Its not that hard.

[05] Do not use BLOCK CAPITALS when posting a sentence its considered as shouting and rude.

[06] Do not use Text Talk.

[07] Do not use a light colour font when posting please its hard to read the topic, not everyone has 100% vision.

[08] Please give a mention to who posted the chart info or the site name where you seen the mid info if you are copying and posting the chart info elsewhere, it takes forever trying to re-edit all the information up for you to see.

[09] Please do not post lists, or sales info unless you are told to by myself or a chart mod, if you do have sales info that you wish to share round them off to the nearest thousand and name your source, do not post precise sales figures.

[10] Regarding chart postions when posted when you see a sum/substraction for example 22+4, 40-7, if you add/subtract both figures together it gives you the actual position for the track. Its just simple addition or substraction. Go Figure.

Maroon 5 deserve number one (the song's actually growing on me now) and I am no longer on Team Sats. Pixie will get it I think, her red or black performance was great :D Snow Patrol should be T20 this update and finish outside - same with Ms Dynamite and the T30 (although she doesn't deserve T40 at all :puke:)

Think today it'll be..

1 - Sats

2 - Pixie

3 - Maroon 5

But by Sunday..

1 - Pixie

2 - Maroon 5

3 - Sats

I DON'T WANT AFU TO DO A MISSING YOU  oh well. I'll get over it.

Edited by Lewis Aloud

I'm hoping Leona will be #4 in this update and maybe officially make it to #3 by Sunday
Predictions for number of pages this thread will end up at by the end of the week?

I think we're going to need a second one.

Example has posted on twitter he is #1 in the album chart.

Ah, you beat me to it!

I definitely think Example will provide competition for the #1 spot this week. I'm unsure whether Adele'll be back in the top 2, but with the downloading of 'Someone Like You', 'Turning Tables' and irritatingly 'Rolling in the Deep' - more people may be purchasing '21'. I think Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Will Young will still be top 5 though, with David Guetta possibly rounding off the top 5.

She definitely won't make top 3. She's 30% behind Maroon 5 on iTunes. The top 3 will be Pixie, Sats and Maroon 5, just unsure what order Maroon 5/Sats will be!

I think you're spot on Lewis, I have a feeling today will be Sats-Pixie-Maroon 5, but that it'll be Pixie-Maroon 5-Sats by Sunday.

I hope Pixie is No.1 today though as if Sats are it won't be by much, and I often get the feeling the artists don't understand iTunes/the charts like many of us do, and if they see themselves at No.1 they won't release they will lose that spot tomorrow.

Leona has not a chance of top 3 IMO. Don't even think she's guaranteed N.4 today..

Me too. It always happens for them. JCGE/Missing You were both number 1 in the midweeks so they got all excited and thought they'd done it, then come Sunday they're not. :(

I expect they're used to it now tbh

And isn't it a bit patronising to say artists don't understand the charts? They are for use by the industry after all.

...I often get the feeling the artists don't understand iTunes/the charts like many of us do...

I agree, lot's of them think that the Big Top 40 show on Capital/Viking FM is the official chart! :P

I don't think it's patronising, obviously I don't KNOW but I'm just going from what I've seen and clearly others agree! I just think they are so busy eith the recording/performing side of it that they don't understand all the ins and outs sometimes.

My predictions are:- No1 Pixie, No2 Saturdays, No3 Maroon 5, No4 Example, No5 Leona

However, by the end of the week I think Maroon 5 will be no2 and Saturdays no3
